  • Holy rocking Johnny Winter F-bird!! Do you own all of these brilliant guitars in your videos? I've wanted a bird for years. Sniff.

  • Trippin' groove man.. I'm diggin' the scene and sound! Reminds me of a microdot trip! But seriously.. great sounding setup and loved the floating light! :) peace

  • That is a Deja Vibe dude, not a Univibe. Huge difference. Nice video, but what's up with that light moving around. Makes me think I took a hit of shroom juice.

  • wonderful playing this in standard tuning i hope : )

  • Dreamy sounding. Very nice job. Thank you for posting.

  • Wonderful job mate, lovely piece to play. and you played it well. Very welcome to see and hear.

  • I must say, your tone and delivery has blown me away. Awesome!!!

  • the "bird" is so beautiful, not a scratch!

  • mmmm....swirly. the jacket steals the show though

  • Sounding groovy. I have a jacket very similar to that!!

  • Great job. RT is one of my all-time fave players.

  • I love the way you hung your guitar on the amp

  • Wow! I want that uni-vibe. And the jacket.

  • sexy!

  • i love that kinda playing :)

  • good

  • best part of this whole video... the jacket

  • Smooth brother!

  • That has such a warm swirling sensation. Nice tone. Nice firebird too!

  • very very nice

  • not quite

  • I have to ask...Which Deja Vibe model did you use? the Mini? Deja Vibe 2?

  • Fantastic sound.

  • very nice!!

  • dude try tunning it really works

  • That is the sweetest jacket dude !

  • yep, nice work

  • I hear some ( Ronnie Earl ) in there, nice job

  • Aw, thank you, Ronnie Earl is awesome!!

  • For Earth Below..

  • an awesome set-up!

  • Great job man. I love FB VII's. I have one in blue mist that I got Johnny Winter to play in his tour bus and autograph it. Beautiful tone out of that Vibroverb. I plug mine into a 66 Bandmaster.

  • Whats that lil' groovy tune at the start before you play..luv it

  • Very Nice...I love Trower!

  • Can never do justice to the MAN, but...I love his playing so much too....

  • That's a rathe rignorant thing to say. The music you prefer isn't the only one there is, cope with it.

For instance, I really dont listen to Rap or so, but it's a form of music, too, and we/you have to aknowledge that.

  • very nice! - Well done.

  • Nice stuff....very cool....DJ

  • the jacket and the guitar make up an awesome 70's look, btw, firebirds ROCK¡¡¡¡¡¡ I might finally buy one next week

    nice playing

  • the firebird is a amazing guitar so i can say (if you alreaddy havent bought it) that you are not going to regret it :)

  • What's with the moving spotlight thing??

  • The chords are so magical, they make the light move..

  • That is tone to the bone man!

    Well done.

  • Great player!Fantastic gear!Recording sound is very good for once on utube. I discovered Robin Trower -and "tonkamine" of course- with this video. Dedicated to "da sista" but obviously to all music lovers. Thanks

  • Thank you so much. I dedicated it to my sis because she gave me the Deja-Vibe as a present!

  • But of course to all music lovers too,as you said.

  • Good sister - wish I had one like that! Saying that my GF got me a Fulltone Octafuzz so i'm not too hard done by.

  • What an awesome sister!

  • A very nice rendition of Secret Place. For those who critic the tuning; TAKE THE BLUE BLUE PILL! He has respectable command of the instrument.

  • Thank you. The tuning was caused by the Vibrola , I took it off and put a stop tailpiece on, now it is very stable.

  • Man, you gotta tell me what brand that coat is! I gotta have one.

  • You definitely play well. Nice clean demo. Very useful- thanks for vid.

  • try tuning first

  • the problem is..........this effect was part of the signature sound of Jimi Hendrix, whom the univibe was built for......so it always sounds like whoever's using it is ripping off Jimi's sound.........Trower definatley has that label.........

  • the Univibe was not built for Hendrix, it was made to be used with organs/keys to simulate the swirling tones of leslie speaker cabs, guitar players found it useful too.....maybe your thinking of the Octave pedal??? Trower gets that lable from those who don't know what they're talking about....

  • you are correct, the Octavia built by Roger Mayer and used on Jimi's early albums is what I confused the Univibe with. Just havent heard anyone use the Univibe like jimi (except for Trower), figured it was his invention. The sound he got with it definately was.............

  • @Knuckle95 you couldn't be more wrong idiot! the wah was built by the THOMAS ORGAN Co to simulate the tones of trumpets/sax/woodwind being dampered on the end made, a trick made famous by a trumpet player called Clyde Mccoy, this tone was called WAH WAH...and again, the UNi-VIBE was built to simulate a Leslie Rotating speaker cabinet...don't take it too hard, i feel STUPID when i get things wrong...do yer homework, then report back to me...

built for Hendrix ha! ha! ha! dumb ass...

  • @ilovemywah Wow....yet another internet tough guy.......boring. I wonder how you would act/react face to face....I think I know.

I love the fact that you typed up a response to my post, but removed it to add another one with more more name calling and immiture terms. Hats off to you.

  • @Knuckle95 did you do your homework yet??? if you've any questions feel free to ask, i'm more than happy to point you in the right direction because you clearly don't have a clue, do you Rambo???

remember! do your homework or or shut up....

  • @ilovemywah The immature, 12 year old, internet tough guy STRIKES AGAIN!!! What I DO Have a clue about is if anyone were to ever confront you face to face, you would push a mountain of mud into your Smalls......which would then cause a yeast infection.

I'd raise a toast to all of the know-it-all internet tough guys out there, but our resident prepubescent, ilovemywah, would not be able to join us. Viva La Douche!!!!!

  • @Knuckle95 knuckle-head war monger....i've threatened no body!! you just paronoid, and stupid, and your the 1 makeing threats while sat in your mama's underwear telling yourself how pretty you are, good boy, there's a good boy...

did you do your homework???? u not getting out of it!!! did you do it???? report back to me when you know what the hell your talking about....

i climb over bigger guys than you to get to a scrap....

  • @Knuckle95 I clearly made an error....thinking of the Octavia.....

  • @ilovemywah The Uni-Vibe was made to simulate the sound of the Leslie speaker, yes, but it wasn't designed exclusively for guitar or organ. It was just designed for whoever needed to use it. Certain people just happened to take a liking to them, and then they blew up the guitar scene (as most organ players wanted the real thing).

It always made me chuckle, though, because a UniVibe sounds nothing like a Leslie. All it is is a really thick, heavy chorus/flange.

  • Yes, The Univibe was made famous by Hendrix. But no, It wasn't built for Hendrix .The Univibe was meant to simulate a Leslie cabinet. Hendrix used everything he could get his hands on or so i;ve read.

  • yeah it appears you are right. I think I confused it with the Octavia effect pedal. Although it seems Jimi might of been the first to use the univibe with guitar, and Trower seem to use it in a similar way to Hendrix's sound.

  • Beautiful guitar and really out of tune!

  • Exactly!! I'll have to fit a wraparound and bypass the Vibrola, thats the culprit!!!

  • One thing that I don't understanding on YOUTUBE videos:

Where's the head of the guitarplayers?????

Nice playing and cool song! Peace...

  • man I want one of these pedals awesome later man mike

  • that coat is somethin id expect hendrix to wear

  • Sweet tone man, love this song. Even though Trower plays a Strat, I love the tone you get on your Firebird.Nice!

  • TA---HE---- (-_-;)

  • What would you call this coat hes wearing?

Id like to have one for myself.

  • Me too! Gotta love fringe.

  • Nice rig.

  • I have that amp and a '74 vibrotone... Looking to get a firebird....Oh it's gonna be fun.

  • Wow that guitar probably cost more than my car. Love the vibe tones. How do the 4 control knobs set up for 3 pickups. I'm guessing 1 master volume and seperate tone for each pick up.

  • beautiful playing simply beautiful..

  • nice stuff, i use a firebird too "medallion serise" great guitars and great effects

    Sherry....:]

  • nice poncho and guitar and dejavibe i envy you haha

  • That was really nice..... and gorgeous guitar too. I know this piece, from the 20th Century Blues album!

    Thanks for posting.

    SB :)

  • How did Trower use a Deja Vibe pedal when they werent even invented yet??

    Genious

  • OK, Genious, Trower used the original Shin-Ei Univibe in the beginning...Then in the 80's he switched to the Boss Chorus CE-2..Later on Deja Vibe came out, he started using that..Here I meant his chords thru a ''Univibe'' using the global meaning of the pedal..Deja Vibe is a Univibe!!

  • Pretty Firebird!!!

  • ir that a UNIVIBE pedal??? pls tell me that because i wanna buy one RIGHT NOW

  • AHHHHH, Just what the fuck was that about? The playing doesn't warrant a beatdown. but otherwise.. just... WHY HERE?

  • it's a full tone deja vibe...better than the new uni's

  • Thanx for the info! Gotta go get one soon.

  • I had the Fender Vibroverb reissue. It was a interesting little amp with a lot of versatility. I used it mainly for slide and chordal stuff but it could sing if you cranked the volume. Interestingly the guy from Extreme (Nuno ?) used a vibroverb reissue on one of his releases because he liked the tone so much.

  • Trower used a Fulltone Deja Vibe, not a Univibe.

  • He also used to use a Roger Mayer Voodoovibe, but who cares! ;-)

  • not back in the day. he used a univibe. he now uses the deja because it costs so much to get a real univibe

  • I like it done with good taste and I like also the 9 chords overdrived .

I've got also a white Firebird VII .

    Regards,

    Peter.

  • great sound!!

but could you tell me what is the name of the song in the intro ?

  • Wild buffalo man with crazy jacket plays out of tune guitar to summon rain...

  • i love it sums it up perfectly!

  • O, yea, thats exactly what I'm trying to do here!!!

  • @beavisrokz

    lol...and it worked :-).

  • I kinda dig the out of tune action. Hendrix sounded funkier when slightly out, fuck it, i'm throwing away my tuner and getting a fringed jacket!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That jacket is badd ass!!!

  • nice tone what song is this?

  • Really enjoyed that! A good good version of possibly my favourite (yes, I'm English!) Trower instrumental.

And what a great sis to have!

    Regards,

    Tony

  • thats some great playing bro, love the jacket!

  • you've got to play those strings harder, brother.

  • I would like to hear how that sounds AFTER you learn how to tune. . .

  • Try to keep in tune with that damned Vibrola, bro!!!

  • does the gibson firebird VII still come in sunburst?

  • From the Custom Shop yes, but from Gibson USA only Metallic red.

  • G-R-E-A-T tone, woman falls for that style of tone...you know it!

It's been a while I did not gig, if I do I will use that set up!

    Take care, great sound

  • Nice Firebird VII. Is it a reissue?

News flash: Turn the vibrato arm around

Tell me about the amp. Do you have the fender driving both sets of speakers or just the marshall?

Is that a flanger or just that deja vibe?

  • A reissue and a Dejavibe. It is just the Fender amp, thank you so much for the comments.

  • Hey man, the fringed jacket does me in! So, do you ride a Norton or a Triumph? Love it! Thanks

    Oh, love the Firebird too.

  • Hey Tonk....I'm gonna go out on a limb here....would you consider some tabs on this?

    Just the chords...I mean,,,,,Thanks

  • Hi Rich, just posted a vid explaining what I played here, check it out!

  • Thanks!!

  • Sounds really good, beautiful Firebird man. I have an old Gibson RD Artist, looks a little like your axe but it's not a Firebird. I would love to own one of those babies!!!!!!!! Keep rockin!

  • You should make a vid of the RD Artist, would love to hear that one!!

  • Am I correct in assuming that you are using a deja vibe and not an actual univibe?

  • Oh yes, it is a Deja-vibe, sorry.

  • i have a firebird bass =P

  • A thunderbird ^^ !

  • nice

  • Right on man

  • GREAT SOUND.

  • very cool sound.

  • Can I have your jacket? ;)

  • Equipamento de 1ª linha + feeling = som maravilhoso. Muito bom.

  • Give me your firebird :(

That's my dream guitar; except I want the Alpine White finish :-P

  • hey can you tell me if that firebird is good thruogh distortion?

  • Oh yes.

  • beautifull equipment. my dream guitar was also a firebird, exactly like yours but my biggest influence is Hendrix so i had to settle for a strat, great guitar as well but a firebird is my destiny. and by the reflection it looks like you keep it in top condish. kudo's to you sir.

  • you got a strat just because your idol used one?

    make your own sound, man...

  • no...i had a kirk hammet signature LTD and after a while it was time to get a new guitar and i try'd out a Fender and i loved the tone so i picked one up...and i have been creating my own sound, combining Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson airplane and many others into my music and have come upon a sound that i am very fond of.

  • So you have a signature model guitar yet u deny his comment? nice.

  • Firebirds have 6 strings. Thunderbirds have 4. Next question.

  • listen to mine: Like a Hurricane

    Search under diamondrhyme

Gorgeous distortion with a Peavey Classic 120, Rockmaster Preamp and Peavey Classic 115 single 15" guitar speaker. Let me know what you think

  • Just watched it and left a comment, great playing and sound,

  • sounds like you use low action and small strings...

  • Actually the action is medium-not very low.The strings are 11s.

  • haha sorry dude just sounded a bit thin. must be the video quality!

  • You're right I guess, I tuned down a whole step like Trower does and the 11s dont really cut it, I need at least 12s to make up for the slack-Although he uses a simple set-up, its really hard to nail his sound,I dont know how he does it.

  • when i use even tens on my strat, if i crank the action to as high as it goes i get trower like tones and sustain. try that man, strings arnt as important as action, trower used tens in the 70's with high action.

  • OK, I'll try the high action--do you raise the pickups too?

  • I do, but make sure they arnt too high or they will cause problems with being too high to the strings- or that might only be with strats. let me know how the high action goes.

  • Wow!! I just tried it out..Jacked it up really high, feels and sounds like an acoustic guitar, almost. And the sound really cleared up, chords ring like a bell..Thanx man..Fells a bit strange now but I'll get used to it.

  • Seriously, nice playing and nice tone! I really dig the orange Marshall cab behind you, too.

  • Duuuuuuuuuuuddddddde..... Pass the bong, man.....

  • Ooooooooo, Firebird Time

  • WICKED FIREBIRD
