I agree, windmills are not thé solution yet. Nuclear power is our only possible saviour at this moment to directly affect the CO2 increase. But windenergy is a good long-term solution. Also these numbers of square miles... You have to know that the power generated by a windturbine is quadratic with the windspeed (if the windspeed doubles, 4 times more power). So if they build gigantic turbines in the oceans (which they will!) it takes much less amount of space because of the stronger wind.

Also, the use of coal & oil is "proven", that's true. We use it all the time. It would be stupid to stop using it in cars, as long as we don't have another solution for generating our electrical power to replace it, ITS THAT EASY. In that you're 100% right! That's why I suggest to take care of alternative electrical sources first. Btw windenergy is "proven" too, but I know what you mean.

However if we can one day develope an energy source powered by nuclear fusion then the worlds energy crisis would be solved. SUV's are necessary for people in rural areas and harsh weather like Fairbanks Alaska. I think Obama isn't aware of what life is like outside urban areas. I bought myself an electric bike and riding it here in rainy Sitka Alaska it only worked for one day and seems to have a short. Electricity and water don't mix! I know how important they can be, I too, lived in a rural area for many years, mostly i drove my mustang but it was impossible to work, get food or go anywhere for that matter if it rained (like every other day).
