Funny as hell, right. I had a KLR 250 when they came out in '86 great bike. It got long in tooth and cost twice what it cost originally 20 years later. Also my friend has the Honda, great bike but never forget it is not an MXer that mo fo is HEAVY. BMW is best city bike for Boston and NYC I see many of them, probably a better choice than my Sprint 955i in many ways but I can't let go of that Triumph for a thumper, gotta find a way to make a ton of bucks and have two bikes.
this was the worst test video i have ever seen! the honda is the best all round bike and he gave that stupid klr to much credit....that klr does nothing exeptional... except for go further on one take of gas than the rest
so im a realy big guy and i wont a new bike and it will be my frist motor bike im like 6'4 320 and i wont an on rode off rode bike the the honda xr650 for me i wont on rode off rode cus i live in iowa so it is going off rode like 25% of the time and i beat the piss out of my cars and trucks so probly not diffrint there plz note back if you think the xr 650 is the bike i need or sudgest one plz tx
Wow, what a big pile of nothing. No shit the XR is the oldest, the BMW is the most street oriented and the KLR is good for long journeys. I'm not usually the kind to bash on others' videos, but come on... you guys get paid for this.
The XR650L is a giant dirt bike on steroids. But with the right tires is a blast to ride around town. Mine gets a consistent 45 mpg whether trails or street.
@geedunk13 i went and sat on one yesterday at my local shop they sit pretty tall im 5'10" and i can only touch the ground on one foot almost flat footed. it doesnt sag much the way it was setup. im sure youll be able to handle it though im picking mine up monday brand new 09
im lookin to buy a dual purpose bike next spring. i want a mean off road bike that can do highway speeds easily. im leaning towards the xr. or should i look for someting else?
@Atomusk90 - I've had the KLR (ill handling, lack of suspension POS), 650L (great suspension/handling, power about the same as KLR) & DRZ400s. DRZ will kick boths ass off road & run circles around both till maybe 50-60MPH, where bigger engines/heavyer bikes prevail. Best all around dual sport bike finding used ones for $2,500! And a real wheelie machine to boot!
They should've reviewed the Honda 650R, I know it's not true dual sport, but it's SO easy to convert, and would've walked all over the other two. I HATE the look of the new KLR.
Oh yeah, and when he said "incarceration" I had to stop and play that part back. Nice editing job-
a used bike like a klr650 or dr650 with 20,000 miles or more would last just as long as a brand new chinese made bike. had a zongshen 200 dual sport and within a year, the engine blew

Yhe KLR is a cheap p.o.s. with problems carried over since it's first model over 20 years ago. and the beemer is a totally different type and price point of bike. DUH.
Motorcycle USA is such a disappointment. It seems to be staffed by whatever warm bodies they could find to fill the positions. Genuine intelligence, independent thought, critical analysis, and true professionalism seem to be in very short supply.
Sometimes I lament the fact that I'm in the Midwest, and all the industry activity is on the west coast.
their videos suck, so much useless talking, not enough info on bikes, really shitty english (wtf is a "tshassy"? surely you mean "chassis"?; and INCARCERATION?!)... and get a decent mic, and maybe a decent camera.
I think a real comparison will put each bike against the same obstacles and tests, and we will see the bike's struggle from the same angles, thus immidiatly catching any difference or problems.
I would like to see how much can you lean the BMW, how it takes the rough terrain and so on.
You would love the BMW G650 XCountry. Fun bike, very low to the ground, and respectable off road. I own an '07 BMW R1200GS, which I lower 1.25 inches (I'm 5' 7"). I'm considering a second bike to use as a mostly off-road vehicle and the G650 XCountry may be it.
Sorry, but I have to sligthly disagree with this one. I am 5'10, but I had found the g650x I bit too high. When my wife joined me on the back, it become perfect. But riding it alone, it was not perfect for me.
I'm hopin ghta the narrator really meant to say "this new incarnation" versus "incarceration" as he said. Big difference. I personally dislike incarceration.
Well lets be honest you can't go wrong with the Honda its for sure the best Dirt Machine of the 3 with over 11" of ground clearence. BMW really street only... Kawasaki is good machine but I think the Honda is the best ENDURO of the 3
I agree. I think the Honda is the best for the dirt. I just wish it had a lower seat height. I just love air-cooled big thumpers. I like the Suzuki. It is only 320 pounds, and I has the option of a 33 inch seat height from the factory.
I think the KLR is the best starting point for you to figure out what you really want to do with a bike. The low price, ease of maintenance, simplicity and an excellent aftermarket made it a no-brainer for me. With a couple of tweaks, it replaces a whole garage of "specialty" bikes.
I had a 2005 XR650L, and picked it because it looked like an awesome Motocross/street legal bike. My thoughts are it sat to high and was unstable in the front on dirt. I even went with DOT Kenda trackmaster rubber and it didn't help much. Never rode a KLR but don't as I did, do the research and see whats best for you.
