  • In case nobody stated, the song is:

    Da Funk - Daft Punk

  • This was actually very helpful! I was worried I needed the spacers for a Model 1 Genesis. Thanks for posting it man! ^_^

  • Uhm.. i'm curious. What kind of CRT TV is being used in this video ?

  • Can the 32x use the same A/V mono cable as the Model 1 genesis, or does it need a different one?

  • @BlueFireZ88 It can use the same one.

  • @BlueFireZ88 Correction, no it can't, the model 1's AV port is not the right size, it's too large. I thought you said model 2.

  • Oh man, that looks so cool... my crappy PS3 ain't got jack against blast processing and all those add-ons. :]

  • looks like its on life support

  • I didn't even know Sega CD were made twice. So does a Model 2 CD fit with a Model 1 Genesis..?

I also just learnt the CD is older than the 32X. Barnacles.

  • how do i get get stereo sound playing music cd's using the two audio outs on the sega cd to my tv ? when i plugged in both rca cables (red and white) i only get sound out of one speaker.

  • @food4damoon Then you either have a bad cable or a faulty sega cd.

  • @hakemon and it should plays cd's properly in stereo sound even if a mixing cable isn't being used?

  • thanks for the video! but do you need av cables to hook up the sega cd to make up for the 32X's? thanks

  • NO YOU'RE ALL WRONG!!! The metal plate and spacers aren't just for shielding RF noise, it's to connect each unit's chassis to a single ground. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you use the plate and spacer to protect both the components and YOU from electric shock in case of a short. (as far as shocking you goes, that's mainly if the rectifier in the ac adapter shorts out.)

  • @X5Industries Uh, they also connect grounds at MANY other points.. AV passthrough, cartridge connector, so no, it IS just for RF..

And your not going to get electrocuted from 9v's at no more than 800mA, get real.

  • @hakemon Some people just don't have a clue.

  • @ULtimateTailsFan213 Sound doesn't require anything special.. CD sound comes out of the headphone jack on the Genesis or the Genesis TV output.

  • Where is the "spacer" metal piece thats supposed to be between the 32x and Genesis?

  • Super Battleship Formation sounds so bad ass.

  • super battleship formation hmmm i guess, i call it life support lol

  • it looks like its on life support lol

    -James

  • You forgot the 2 metal pieces of the 32X

  • @MASOFENT You don't need the 2 metal pieces for the the 32X. ;) It was only to please the FCC, and it functions perfectly fine without it.

  • @hakemon Well yeah, and then people say "The Sega 32X unfortunately is known to kill Sega Genesises cause of static electricity"

  • @dziltener And that would be a load of bull, has never been proven, and is only possible if someone is rubbing their socks on a carpet.. The cartridge connector itself has a ground pin, so it already blows out that excuse..

  • Look at all those black boxes stuck together! Now that is sexy. I'm serious it looks good. Nevermind what the critics like the AVGN say. If you are a hardcore Sega Freak, this is worth it. Too bad you couldn't put the Saturn on the bottom. That would have been even better. My only gripe this that they all have different power addaptors.

  • @mopbrothers It only looks cool on the model 1 genesis, and it's a nightmare to hook up.

Model 2 genesis is the life support model.

  • Good job dude.

  • so i dont need the 3 metal prongs ?

  • what "bit" is a PS3 game?

  • @zacker2000

    64? :P i dunno

  • i just bought a sega cd model1, i was wondering: what's that "lock" button thing on the left? is it to hold the mixing cable? Is it supposed to be loose?

  • @AxleGear89 It's supposed to hold the mixing cable back so it doesn't get in the way of the disk tray.

  • The 32x looks better attached to the model 2 genesis, and model 2 sega cd.

  • I bought a sega cd model 1 and model 1 genesis pal consoles. the sega cd didnt come with a mixing cable. I hooked it up through rf and when i put games there are some sound effects but it is missing others ie voices in certain games. Can anyone tell me will a mixing cable solve this. Thanks.

  • @kb96215 No, if you are using the RF cable, the Genesis mixes that internally, and it's possible the CD is corrupted, or it's a burned CD and it's not burned correctly.

The mixing cable is ONLY for the RCA jacks on the back of the Sega CD, to include Genesis sounds.

  • @hakemon i have a real copy of ground zero texas and there is no sound at all however I did burn snatcher there was sound just no voices and i tested it in an emulator so i know there should be . The megadrive sound works perfect just not the sega cd. Thanks for your help anyway much appreciated.

  • If anyone wants to know where they can get a cheap 32x pass through cable look no further than gametrog.com

  • ...that is the most beautiful thing iv ever seen in my life!

  • is that a gamecube logo that lights up in the middle/bottom of your tv

  • Lawlz, "Super Battleship Formation". xD

  • @TehUberCyberBeast Nono, THIS is the Tower of Doom. Super Battleship Formation is MD2+SCD2+32X

  • @Christuserloeser Lawlz. 8D

What about MD1+MCD2+32X? "Uber-Battleship Formation"? Lol.

  • TOWER OF POWER!

The sheer amount of Blast Processing in that combo is enough to level mountains and evaporate lakes.

  • @Deokishisu It's enough blast processing to send astronauts to Mars.

  • My Sega Genesis/Sega CD/32X combo really needs a thorough cleaning! I've had my Genesis since 1990, Sega CD since 1992 and the 32X since 1994. I really have difficulty trying to play games! Genesis/32X games don't play when I turn on the console, I have to turn the power switch on and off repeatedly, or remove the cartridge repeatedly. The Sega CD is the biggest problem, it doesn't turn on right away either, and the picture is really distorted, it also constantly ejects Sega CD games, too...

  • I was sold the model 1 genesis, model 1 sega cd, and the 32x, but he didn't sell me the adaptor from for the AV in/out, which you said was from "mini DIN to DIN" or something like that? so what is that adaptor called if I'm looking for it?

  • @BenTheoRowe Well the mini DIN used is proprietary, so you'll have to look for the actual cable the 32X came with.

  • If you're using an RF adapter, the metallic shields are a good idea. If it's standard A/V output, they're not necessary.

  • @dogeymon83

Are you sure about that? I'm going thoroughly clean my Genesis/Sega CD/32X combo soon, and I really want to remove the metallic shields. I think they're causing a buzzing sound in the audio when I turn on console...

  • @SEGA128DC - I'm looking at my 32X/GEN/SCD combo lying on the floor right now, and it's been used without magnetic shields for quite a while now. None in the Genesis slot (32x) and none under the Genesis. I did use them all when I first had my systems. But I never used RF so I don't use them any more and now I see it doesn't matter. I don't know what's causing your buzzing though. Go ahead and remove them.

  • @SEGA128DC - Ya know one of the funnest ways to clean out dust and hairballs that collect in systems?? Go to RADIO SHACK and ask for CyberClean. :) I used it on my gamecube. Got all the dirt and dust corroded on the fan and stuff, and under the disc drive.

  • There is something odd about this video... Don't get me wrong, it's very well done and I learned a lot from it, but there is something about it I can't quite put my finger on...

  • yeah Chaotix best game on the system, in my opinion of course

  • looks a whole lot fucking better than with the model 2 and 32x on model 1 sega genesis.... they both look like deformed tumors on it

  • Why won't there be sound if you use a stereo AV Cable?

  • Great review!

  • The metal shield isn't there to block RF, but to block Blast Processing exhaust coming out of the Sega CD.

  • I have a mate whos working on combining all three systems into one system so its one power adapter, and RCA with stereo as standard. He's not made much progress though mainly due to university

  • Fantastic instructions, thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Does the 32X mono A/V cable have only 2 pins inside the plug end? I have one that looks exactly like the one you use, but I'm not sure whether or not it's the right one for my system.

  • hey guys do i need a model 1 sega cd can i use my model 1 genesis with model 2 sega cd cause i cant find a model 1 sega cd

  • Comment removed

  • What are you talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • @hakemon i got a untested sega cd model 1 it came with no cords can you tell me witch power cords i need thanks

  • @steveandbobsho

A standard Genesis model 1 adapter will work. I use a 10v version (it's stamped on the adapter) instead of a 9v. I don't know if that makes a difference though.

  • @ytykg cool thanks

  • what is that song called at the beginning of your video

  • @Defolto I "think" it's a daft punk song

  • Segazord tank mode

  • Comment removed

  • Same as the original Model 1 Genesis. I'll find out tomorrow.

  • @Riddler95 Sega CD Model 1 and 2 use the MK-1602 Power adapter that's also used on the Genesis 1. 9V, 1.2A. An adapter from an NES will fit and says it has the same voltage - but -DON'T- use it or it can fry the console. Try to use an original MK-1602.

    Genesis 2 and 32x use the 10v, 850mA adapter, MK-2103.

  • genesis 1 is getting ganged raped by sega cd and 32x so many fuckin wires awful i feel so sorry for genesis

  • @xxmadgamerxx1 AVGN quote stealer, at least say it's by him.

  • @xxmadgamerxx1 you watched the angry nerd video lol.

  • you watched the nerd lol

  • what a shit load of fuck

  • Maybe use a Video Cable

  • i have the genesis 1 and sega cd 1 combo (no 32x) but i cant figure out how to hook it up. is all i need the power adapter and something that hooks up from the tv to the system?

  • it would,ve been nice a cd addon for my console, but this looks very stupid.!!!!

  • these releases were all I ever saw in stores. Don't know where everybody is getting all the version 2's from, never even saw those. This looks more organized and overall better.

  • genesis's have tumors most of the time

  • Thanks for posting this up - just what I was looking for :)

  • Like the AVGN said best, when all that shits hooked up it literally looks like it's on life support.

  • Dude, he's an internet loser who plays video games and drinks beer.

His only redeeming quality is that he doesn't hie it.

  • That thing is beastly!!

I hope to have mine set up like that one day..

    i have a mk1 mega drive

    Tim

  • Hell yeah

  • My model two Mega CD allows the stereo outputs to supply sound for all three consoles. idk what drugs you're on mate.

  • If it's a model 1 Genesis it isn't for sure. If you have a model 2 genesis, then you can. Model 1's required a mixing cable, Sega even says so in the manual.

  • the genesis 1 and genesis 2 have different pinouts for the av port, hence the need for the adapter, the genesis 1 has only mono out on the back but the genesis 2 has stereo out on the back

  • pleasse tell me where I can find a 32x spacer or an mini din to din cable please. thanks

  • that is a tower of power!

  • Damn that looks good :D

  • fu*king love the daft punk tune ,,, aint her'd it in a long time ,,, sega is better than nintendo as we all know right

  • ...Are you stupid?

  • whats the name of that song

  • Da Funk by Daft Punk

  • how did you get the 32x without the hooks

  • gosh why did they have to make it so confusing....

I prefer model 2 genesis and model 2 Sega CD layout personally

  • 1:01--Just FYI, that shield also holds the genesis in place, so it doesn't break the expansion slot, when you remove a game....It does a bit more than just shield interference

  • fuck its huge!! :0

  • thats what she said hehe =P

  • It should have just been a Sega CDX from the beginning. Look at that giant mountain of plastic. I'm trying to get a sega CD now for a decent price...but man what a beast of a console you have there.

  • but its all worth it

  • You have a modified genesis!!! *envy*

  • That was complicated xD

  • It really is unnecessarily complicated, but I'm positive it would be very, very fun to do. I wish I could set one up =P

  • Can all Mega Drive games work on US technology?

A bought a Mega Drive cartridge and it played just fine on my Genesis, does that mean a Mega Drive 32X game would work on a Genesis 32X, and a Mega CD game work on my Sega CD?

    Is there no regional lockout?

  • Sorry, I found out what the answer was to most of my question.

I'm just wondering if the Sega CD is under the jurisdiction of a regional lockout

  • NO! You were just lucky because some Genesis can play Mega Drive games! But that's not the case with 32x or Mega CD games! If you use an European or Japanese 32x or Mega CD game it will not work... unless you moddify them...

  • Apparently SOME Mega Drive/Genesis games never had a regional lockout and so work.

    Same with the 32X.

Unfortunately, I pretty certain they didn't overlook it at all with the Sega CD because of disc technology.

  • An japanese Chaotix cartridge will work on an Sega 32X, But not an european Knuckles' Chaotix cartridge.

  • can u hook up a sega cd model 1 to a sega genesis model 2?

  • can you do a setup for the genises 1 only , sry i is not that smart

  • is it possible to create your own cable to connect a 32x to a model 2 megadrive/genesis? i have bought a 32x with no cables and i cannot seem to find the cable which connects the two on the internet!

  • Try Play N Trade.

You might be able to find the connectors there.

Or at least a 32X that includes them.

  • nice nice :)

  • Once you connect the AC Adaptors and cables, does turning on the MegaDrive automatically activate the 32X and MegaCD? That MegaCD unit looks huge.

  • The 32X is activated only if a 32X cartridge is inserted or if you run a 32X CD.

The SegaCD/MegaCD ROM BIOS will boot only if there is no game cartridge inserted.

  • You just showed how complicated it is, whether you wanted to or not.

  • hey i have a sega genesis model 1 differnt version and a sega cd model 2 and i dont have the sheild thing and the 32x. but i have not recived a sega cd power so i used a yobo power supply and when i hook it up it didnt show all i got for awile was either elertic sound out of the tv or black. plz help

  • A Yobo power supply?

What was this power supply originally designed to run? More importantly, what are the specs? (voltage, power type, and polarity)

You better hope you didn't run a power supply that had the wrong polarity or fed downconverted AC power because if any of these two are the case, you've just fried your Sega CD.

  • why do you say one specific end of the 32X cable has to go into the 32x? its male on both ends, so why does it matter?

  • It's to keep the ferrite beads on one side of the cable, as the adapter for model 1's have a ferrite bead also. So when attached to each other, ferrite beads are opposite of each other, and not a bead on the middle of the cable essentially.

Reduces interference as much as possible.

  • Thats cool, now Im going to take a old CPU, connected to a CRT TV with VGA entry, get a couple of joypads and load emulators of....

    -MAME

    -NES

    -GBA

    -Sega genesis, 32X, CD

    -SNES

    -PS1

    -N64

    -Dreamcast

And all the games that I want XD

  • at 0:11 -> high definiton graphics? WTF???

  • oh yes! just dont try playing it on an HD tv, not watcha think...

  • they sorta boasted graphics, which i suppose were pretty good for the time, 1989 i think, i still have a genesis, and just got a 32x, cool vid

  • you betta recognize sonz! Seriously, the High Definition Graphics model had the best RGB -> composite conversion so it had the best picture of all Genesis models. Also, since it used a full chipset, the audio is also the best. Best of all, almost no one knows there is a quality difference between models, so people in the know can snag a high def model for ~$20

  • Composite video sucked on all models of Genesis until it went through the 32X...

Audio on the other hand was great. Most model 1's had an external Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesizer and it sounded quite good, before they integrated it into the glue chip.

  • that's not true, composite out of my hi-def model 1 is identical to output through the 32X, or at least negligibly worse.

  • Oh it be true. You will see that the Gen had rainbow patterns where the 32X did not, and showed a proper picture.

  • All model 1 consoles I've seen used a Yamaha YM-2612 along with a Texas Instruments PSG chip and a Zilog Z80 CPU as the controller.

There were even some generation 2 (smaller) Genesis consoles that used an actual YM-2612 chip. I ought to know as I have a generation 2 that has a separate YM-2612 and a separate Z80 sound controller CPU.

But, yeah, most gen 2 consoles used an LSI for the sound instead of discrete chips so the gen 2 I have is rare.

  • There were a small ammount of model 1's that used model 2 parts with all integrate logic.

Btw, there was never an external PSG chip, ever. Even on the original launch Model 1's, it was always integrated into the VDP chip that's SEGA marked.

  • Slip of the memory regarding the PSG. Sorry about that.

  • do u have to have that model of a genisis

  • The Sega Genesis Model 1 is compatible with the CD model 2 right?

  • yes it is

  • FANTASTIC !!!!

  • Awesome! BTW how do Sega CD 32X games work, since it requires the SCD and 32x together.

  • The cd 32X games require both a cartridge and a discs for the CD to be put in at the same time.

I would suggest having the channel go through the 32X.

Since the genesis' sound might not fully adapt to both frequencies in synchrony.

  • If You Have A Model 2, Can You Show Us How To Do It?

  • Same but with a model 2

  • hakemon, you wouldn't happen to know where I can get a spare 32x to genesis 2 cable would you?

  • ok so lets make sure everyone knows how to put it into super battleship formation but first we have to check if the IO shield is in place before commencing bsf.

  • The shield is useless, because it was 1, only for FCC passing, and 2, both consoles are enclosed in a giant RF shield to begin with, internally.

  • What about that part that goes into the side?

I forget, but it's another part to add onto the sega gangbang.

  • Also can the model 2 cd work with the model 1 genesis.

  • Yes. All combinations work with each other.

  • where can i find the adaptor that lets the 32x work with the model one genesis

  • will genesis model 2 work on Sega CD 1?

  • I've answered this on here already, yes it will work.

  • i have the same sega genesis model, but a different sega cd model, (i believe 2) and i cannot get the audio or video from the sega cd to show up on the TV

  • Then your Sega CD is dead. Nothing special is required for that configuration. The audio should be there and so should the video.

The model 2 just like the model 1, sends the video data and audio signals to the Genesis via the expansion bus connector.

  • also, where would i get one of the shields?

  • Not required at all. The consoles have internal shielding already. Those plates were only there to please the FCC.

  • where do you get all of the needed cables, such as the DIN to Mini DIN adapter?

  • Came with it.

  • SUPER BATTLESHIP FORMATION GO!!!!!1

Anyway, it's not possible to hook up the Genesis 2 to the Sega CD 1 is it? I just randomly thought about it a while ago, and now I'm curious...

  • It is indeed possible and i have done it.

The RCA jacks on the back of the Sega CD just won't have Genesis sound, EVER.. But the AV out on the Genesis is full of all sound and video.

  • lol i had one of these it was a hunk of crap it only worked for a week

  • The 32X has an issue where two white ribbons inside can get loose. This usually happens when they came out of the factory and subjected to the rough vibrations.

    Easy fix, reseat white ribbons.

  • thanks man hay i just got the model 2 sega cd and a model 2 genesis. like you said it's sounds confusing but it's really easy. thanks

  • Its still pretty simple though.

I mean, you'd have to be pretty retarded not to be able to figure this out.

But hakemon made this vid because he knew there were some of those people out there.

Except I didn't know before this that the prongs and the spacer were not neccesary at all.

  • song is da funk by daft punk. one of my favorite bands. anyway this is cool, i just gotta find those darn cables for the 32x.

  • Cool.

  • high defenition graphics!

  • What is the song in the beginning called?

  • Actually, I was wondering that too...

  • hi i dont have the 32x (yet) just the megadrive(genisis) and the mega CD what is the best way to get stereo sound from both systems through an AV amp withoout having to swithc channel or use two leads (if poss) ? thanks ,Baco

  • I'm digging the bithin' modded first batch Genny 1. I'm guessing those are overclock switches and stereo out capability on the left?

  • region and stereo mods

  • No it is pretty easy.

I got my 32X just two or three day ago and it took less 2 minutes to set up both the Genesis and the 32X.

The only reason why it took even that much time was because it was dark and I couldn't see where to put the plugs, so if your going to set it up in a mildly lit room be sure to use a flashlight.
