  • Has any one every grabbed someones punch in sparring, real fight, ect

  • @keagar1 Yes, and the more you practice it the better you get at it. All I need is for someone to punch at me. The guy isn't my target. His elbow is my target. Just help me out by extending it to me. :)

  • I am now 20 and I have been looking for something like this for a long time and found it, Thank you!

    Farelhound

  • A whole video about the single whip - valued in gold. Thanks, Sifu, I was looking for this for a long time. All your other videos are truly inspirational!

Just a question: you write Hsing-I. Is this because you learned it in Taiwan, or did you just get used to applying the Wade-Gillis transliteration instead of Pinyin (Xing Yi)?

    Blessings!

  • Great question! and thank you for the kind words. Try spiraling the arm forward (spiraling counter-clockwise) and sweeping the right leg backward, as in "Punch the Ground."

Of course, one secret to effective tai chi fighting is to become sensitive to your opponent and counter before he gets you this far. You're up the creek at a certain point if you haven't already dealt with the attack. :) And these techniques are meant to be done FAST, so by the point at 3:27, your elbow should be broken.

  • Master Gullette, Your videos are fantastic! We study with them a lot in our Tai Chi class. But we have a question that everyone in class wants to know.

Is there a way to escape the single whip from where it is in the video at 3:27? We have tried many ideas, but none work. There must be some way to defend against it and come out standing. Please help us. If the answer lies in one of the forms we do already, that would be awesome. Thank you...

    Taos Tai Chi

  • i like your form its very similar to kuntao witch also has xingyi bagua taichi, but this is too complicated and has too many specific techniques for me, i prefer to keep it simple.

  • @gordhill There is yin and yang, perhaps you misunderstand internal body mechanics.

  • I enjoyed watching some diff variations from the style I teach Wu (Cheng Tin Hung) lineage . Obviously you practise Chen and it was nice to see the differerence and also the similarities. thanks for sharing

  • Why do I hear an airplane everytime you slow down the vid? Hmm.......
