Only really have to disagree on a few choices - Silent Hill - game was WAY better than film...explored and explained a lot more and scared me more... and The Strangers.. HATED it.. not because it "scared" me as much as disgusted me... was basically a snuff film.. no real plot.. no real reason the people were brutally tortured or murdered.. just sick. that is me.. and for classic and ALWAYS a scare.. The Exorcist.. directors cut.. FML

I know that this is just your personal top 5, which is fine and all, but you need to watch more horror movies. Personally, I enjoyed more foreign horror films during that time period. Let The Right One In, The Host, and The Orphanage are all well-told stories. If you would rather not read subtitles, I also loved Rami's return with Drag Me To Hell. Cloverfield and Final Destination (disregarding ALL sequels) aren't bad either. I could keep going lol

Wolf Creek is a truly terrifying movie. As an Aussie I feel even more afraid because people like that live in our own backyards. Even worse my woodwork teacher is a dead ringer for Mick (The backpacker killer) If you haven't seen it, you have to.

Also the Hills have eyes is a good fright-fest. the special effects for the remakes made it a bit better but the originals are still good.

REC is a Spanish zombie movie done in the handy-cam style. Quarantine was based off it but REC is way better!

Prom night was one of the worst remakes in history, the grudge movies sucked watch the original asian movies called JU-ON, the strangers was a big let down(not scary at all i fell asleep watching it) but I do admit silent hill was creepy and had a pretty good story.

@RealPinkDreams You have to just look overseas for good horror nowadays. Ichi the Killer is like Hostle with a better storyline. Audition is way out there. The sweedish ppl did a fantasitic Job with Let the Right One in. However, with these movies you do have to deal with subtitles. It kinda blows, but it's so worth it.

THE GRUDGE 1 is still one of the best......the sound effects and build up was awesome......if only they had spent some money on SFX when the ghosts reveiled themselfs....I mean common a boy with a painted white face making catnoises , that's stupid.
