@QuadeBay are you referring to the buying options on the Apple website? You can buy the upgrade (the full version at a discount) if you have bought a previous version of the Final Cut suite before.
Also, I'm wanting to basically make one of those picture in picture videos of me playing a Guitar Hero song blindfolded where I have 1 camera focused on me and another camera focused on the screen.
Great video! I was just wondering because I'm planning on getting this fairly soon and I was just wondering how much free space would you recommend that I have on computer for this?
brilliant vid, thanks. And when I put it on full screen I actually thought I was on an apple laptop. I heard a weird beep halfway thro the vid, and I thought automatically; oh must be the sound that my new apple laptop makes when I get a fbook msg, and I exited full screen and then remembered I hav still got windows
Great video. I am on the verge of jumping into this with my wallet flapping, and you have convinced me that Final Cut Studio is the one to take, however, I am concerned about how easy it is to use with an external hard drive. I am about to purchase the HMC41 and would like to know if it will all be compatible.
i would like to get a thing that does the same thing as a capture card so i can record things from my ps3 then upload to youtube do you knwo anything that can do this for mac
I run a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM on a MacBook Pro. This one is 1 and a bit years old. I think you should e ok with that MacBook, though don't plan on doing anything else whilst you have it open and expect rendering to take a while.
@iMatt95 The Macbooks only have 64 mb of shared video RAM (the earlier ones anyways. You can try and run it on there and it will probably boot, but you will have very long render times. Just use iMovie, dont let the fact that it is free fool you, its very capable. I've been editing professionally for 5 years (and yes I use final cu prot, but its my job) and 90% of the stuff ive done I could have done in Final Cut Express. It's very simple and much easier to learn on.
Sorry if this is a daft question but are you using this on a 13inch MacBook? If so, is it ok to use and is there enough space to work? Would 15 inch be better? Cheers!
@dfoggin I have a question that ive been needing answered. im buying action essentials 2 and i was wondering if it will work with final cut express!? someone pleeeease respond! thanks.
The only problem you'll have is that it likes to run in resolutions of 1680x1050 or higher, and the MBP's display is only 1440x900. However, plug it into an external monitor and you're golden!
Hey dude what macbook are you using (judging from the battery bar)? I have the 2.4gzh 13 inch (unibody) and I want to get this BUT I don't know if my computer can handle it fully as I only have 100gb of free space, and 80gb to boot camp.
Please reply and thanks if you do :) very nice video and got me interested, you explained it very good.
Such a good video that I took my time to write this and rate a video on youtube for the first time in 5 years.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 15" with a 2.6GHz and 4 GB of ram. You should be fine with that MacBook the only thing is that it will take a little longer to render and the 13" screen size may be a little small as it demands a fair bit of space to have all the pallets open you need. As for hard drive space, FCP makes big raw render files that take up a bit of room (5-10GB depending on the format you filmed it in and how much you auto-render) but these can be deleted once you have finished your project.
Thank you :D alot! I have a 500GB drive as a backup I will probably stuff everything else in there, I installed FCP and now I'm going to try it out thanks to you!
I had 4gb ram on my whitebook but sadly it was DDR2 :(
um.. This is gonna run ok on an iMac (aluminum)with 3GB of RAM, right? I hope so, because that's what I have to work off of. And I think I'm gonna install all 50 GB of goodness.
It depends on the quality of the video your editing. SD will be smooth as and consumer level HD. ANything higher will struggle but you will be surprised what you can do. You can always lower the quality of the playback
thats funny my dad is a graphic designer for his business so he has alot of software that is used for images like photoshop and indesign u are lucky your dad does videos i always ask my dad if he will make videos but he says no sadly
And what sneaky ways would they be, Tom?! Haha! No, my Dad works for a film company so it's quite easy for me to lay my hands on this stuff :) Though I don't have any excuses for my Snow Leopard video... Guilty as charged!
hehe :) same here! I did see the transmission logo in your dock so I assumed you had put it to some heavy usage. How many gb is it all together? Thanks
The Final Cut install? If you install all off the loupes, templates, bells and whistles then it's around 45-50GB! But, I was picky and only chose a few things so it was around 7GB. Having said that, if you only want the Basic McBasicness of installs where you only get the Applications then it's about 4GB
To be honest, that is pretty much what Final Cut Express is! There isn't a huge difference between them at all. When you get the Studio, the extra you pay isn't for the Pro, but for all the extra apps you get.
this might of just made me buy this, your a great guy, and thanks for evrything
