@iskim86 Honestly Rebuild 2 manages to blend CGI and traditional animation far better than most any other anime I've seen, and the production and direction of this scene in particular shows such skill that I'm willing to give it a pass.

Love the way they remade Eva into this with new scenes and a new pilot, although from the discription i read online it made out like it was a direct continuation from the last series. Haven't watched all of this yet, but i hope the ending will be better than the original series was, i wanted an awesome giant robot battle, not Shinji tripping on acid.

@Mithferion Notice the "ramp" again at the end of the video, they're not actually ramps, but barriers. They were just using them as makeshift ramps on the fly, and the "jumping platforms" seem to be the weapon locker towers or whatever that come out of the ground in the city.

@Mithferion It's actually not far fetched. They didn't have the platforms prepared like some kind of sonic the hedgehog obstacle course. Misato realized she didn't have enough time to intercept the angels and had to make a spur of the moment decision that would allow her to utilize the Evangelion's velocity and momentum to propell itself faster. The buildings and smaller curses would have encumbered the unit too much and slowed it down. The platforms that made the curved ramp weren't designed...

You've got to be pretty crazy to think anything about NGE's sequences looked or were directed better than sequences from Rebuild. Maybe some details about whats going on have been left out but that's really my only problem with Rebuild.
Honestly, I'm not opposed to the cleaner look of the animation, and no more shaky frames when scenes change - my eyes will thank me =) Granted, the angels have been re-done for more eye candy, but indeed, now the original Sahaquiel does look like a bomb-pooping dog chew toy thing. Looking forward to this. Now that Mr. Anno has had the means to re-imagine his own series, I don't think I'll be disappointed. ^^

Then, after reading something on TV Tropes and giving it some thought, I realized that THIS Sahaquiel took on a form that was eerily similar to Leliel and Matariel from the original series (absent from 2.0)... I don't have too much of a liking toward the angels' apperance or presentation in the remake movies, some transformations that they underwent were decent but many sequences were fused together to compensate for the limited time to producers had. Since this is a remake I can compare this to the original and can say that the angel sequences were given more signifigance, it almost feels as if they tried to make them purely for eye candy on the movies.....bothersome

to any americans here, you should DEFINATELY see this if it is in a cinima near you, as I saw this in a theater in Australia during madman entertainment's screening of it last year, and it was EPIC. (too bad that they used eva 1.01 for the double feature screenings, which is so dark on a projected screen you can barely see anything in some scenes.)
I really, REALLY like how Asuka shows concern for Shinji in this scene. Seeing her becoming a better person is just as great as it is seeing Rei beginning to come out of her shell and Shinji finally taking some steps in the right direction. Even if it almost set off the third impact, he goes to such lengths to save Rei that saying it isn't a good thing at all is a blatant lie.
Seeing these characters develop after all of these years really makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

The quality of the video's not quite up to snuff. Torrent a blu-ray quality version of this, and the action is smooth and extremely epic. Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed the herky-jerky animation, though.
@dagdamor1 Youtube caps the framerate on videos to like, 30. It's also why things like certain video game videos, such as Super Robot Wars videos, tend to have flickering sprites and shadows, because the framerate isn't up to snuff.
@SelfHatingWhite The CGI is supposed to be obvious. It's actually part of the horror of the Angels. They're supposed to just look WRONG. They look quite out of place - because they are. The Angels aren't supposed to be on Earth, so to me the CGI just works even better because of that.
@HayateKusanagi like how in the live action Death Note movies, the Shinigami are obvious CGI not because they couldn't do better, but because they're supposed to look like something you'd never see in the real world.

I didn't expect the animation to move this much. Also I have never seen mouth movement this quick in anime until now.
Looks like it also uses a perfect blend of 3d graphics and 2d animations also.
Overall it's incredible animation. To think this used to be under budget restraints.

Honestly, I'm not opposed to the cleaner look of the animation, and no more shaky frames when scenes change - my eyes will thank me =) Granted, the angels have been re-done for more eye candy, but indeed, now the original Sahaquiel does look like a bomb-pooping dog chew toy thing. Looking forward to this. Now that Mr. Anno has had the means to re-imagine his own series, I don't think I'll be disappointed. ^^

At first, the transformations just seemed to be added on. Then, after reading something on TV Tropes and giving it some thought, I realized that THIS Sahaquiel took on a form that was eerily similar to Leliel and Matariel from the original series (absent from 2.0)... Brilliant. Anno, I can't wait to hear your explanation for this.

I don't have too much of a liking toward the angels' apperance or presentation in the remake movies, some transformations that they underwent were decent but many sequences were fused together to compensate for the limited time to producers had. Since this is a remake I can compare this to the original and can say that the angel sequences were given more signifigance, it almost feels as if they tried to make them purely for eye candy on the movies.....bothersome

I like the music here. Really gives the whole scene a sense of scale and climax that the original scene didn't have. And the redesign of Sahaquiel itself is just mind-blowing.

to any americans here, you should DEFINATELY see this if it is in a cinima near you, as I saw this in a theater in Australia during madman entertainment's screening of it last year, and it was EPIC. (too bad that they used eva 1.01 for the double feature screenings, which is so dark on a projected screen you can barely see anything in some scenes.)

I really, REALLY like how Asuka shows concern for Shinji in this scene. Seeing her becoming a better person is just as great as it is seeing Rei beginning to come out of her shell and Shinji finally taking some steps in the right direction. Even if it almost set off the third impact, he goes to such lengths to save Rei that saying it isn't a good thing at all is a blatant lie.
Seeing these characters develop after all of these years really makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

The quality of the video's not quite up to snuff. Torrent a blu-ray quality version of this, and the action is smooth and extremely epic. Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed the herky-jerky animation, though.

@dagdamor1 Youtube caps the framerate on videos to like, 30. It's also why things like certain video game videos, such as Super Robot Wars videos, tend to have flickering sprites and shadows, because the framerate isn't up to snuff.

@SelfHatingWhite The CGI is supposed to be obvious. It's actually part of the horror of the Angels. They're supposed to just look WRONG. They look quite out of place - because they are. The Angels aren't supposed to be on Earth, so to me the CGI just works even better because of that.
This is simple opinion, however.
