  • speed and endurance, what more can you ask?

  • 4 queens dislike this

  • his left hand is pure sickness! he´s not only controling the stick by his fingers, but blasts the hole time. this must be fucking hard. this man is pure power!

  • so fucking sick dude with all the cymbal rhythms, he played the shit outta that song.

  • is derek wearing shape-ups?!? so THATS the secret!!

  • hmmmmm .... i think it needs more blasting ....

  • i've been watching derek roddy since i started drumming 2 and a half years ago, he has allways been one of my biggest inspirations, and every time i come back to watch some of his vids, which i ofcourse has seen a hundred times before, they still blow me away....

  • brutal brutal brutal este maldito...........

  • amazing

  • @doublebassrox @crusha717 according to both of your theories, students learning drums playing the basic rock beat are "stealing" that beat from phil rudd of AC/DC. you two are morons. you can't steal drum patterns.....

  • "He stole those china fills from george!!!!" What the fuck are you on about!!!!!!!!!!

    You are a prick!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • derek roddy is the truth

  • lol it actually does have a rhythm. maybe not what most people are use too. rhythm as in something to groove too. but deathmetal has a rhythm of its own, and that =total mayhem.

  • looks like eric rutan the vocalist is jerking of the guitar

  • @doublebassrox lolwat

  • "As far as Extreme Drumming goes, Derek Roddy influenced me so much, more than anybody in the scene. Derek is a great drummer and he is more than a great extreme drummer." This was said by George Kollias, you doublebassrox stupid fagg

  • @doublebassrox Actually George is a big fan of Derek..so maybe is the contrary ;)

  • @doublebassrox lol dude, george stole alot more from Derek

  • @crusha717 maybe, but the only difference is that george makes it look good.

  • @doublebassrox maybe the other way around derek played in nile before kollias

  • @doublebassrox

FVCK all youtube kids and "cult of unbeatable GK" FVCK you! Try to read something before you post some crap.

  • @XashmanHlukPyco u mad?

  • @doublebassrox

No i only hate youtube/internet kids.

  • @XashmanHlukPyco And i hate thirty year olds who tend to write as if they were "KVLT" enough themselves to write like that. I bet you dont even know where those china hits came from.

  • @doublebassrox

I'm not 34, its fake, internet is one big fake, man, i'm 20+ and i know what is extreme drumming, i play drums every day, but whats wrong,.. my opinion is, i hate kids on youtube posting something crap of axis pedals of Kollias of all these boring things, its all over youtube, its again again,.. very fvcking uninteresting theme,.. try to more practice drums and not chat on youtube what is better, who is better and who is bad,.. in real life it not depend on your net-opinion. ;-)

  • @doublebassrox

Hahaha, did you know he played in Nile before George?

  • derek is good and fast and all but some stuff like this song he plays to fast to have any good rhythm in it at all

  • @bricks454 In all fairness, Tim Yeung was the original drummer for this song, who, in my opinion, plays mainly with speed and lacks a lot of rhythm. In fact, a lot of cymbal fills on this video were added by Roddy.

  • @decrapitation actually tim only did the first album. roddy recorded king of all kings album and I.monarch. then jade did fury and flames.lol

  • @decrapitation That's incorrect my friend.

  • Derek is good, but George Kollias is just so much better.

  • @DissYraiN

    Agree

  • I'm sorry but this is horrible. I love the drums, I play the drums and I like Derek Roddy but this particular video sucks.

  • @KattyCatt1 how on earth can you say this sucks? this is speed and pricision at its best

  • Like the title says:

Derek Roddy is the King of all Kings!

  • this shit is inhuman, for wannabe-drummers out there - watch and learn

  • 2:13-2:19 SEAMLESS snare hand switch-offs

  • is derek roddy sure this song isnt about him? King of all Kings \m/

  • when angels mate with man, Derek Roddy is produced as an offspring

  • Holy fuck..how does he switch between his hands and keep up the blasting absolutely perfect...fckin sickkk if u ask me..this guys got some inbuilt alien tech seems like

  • I'm so pissed that I never got to see Hate Eternal with Derek! It's incredible that he could play this much faster than the records

  • oh my fuckin god he is a MONSTER!!!

  • He isn't hitting the snare very hard here.

  • He actually is (granted this song is very fast and near the end of his set, so it may not be as strong as the earlier songs).

Derek is one of those guys who may not have the most stick height in his blastbeats, but hes always been one of the "loudest" blasters in deathmetal.

Check the clinic videos on my page and the "King of all Kings" video from France..theres some good drum shots.

    Stick height =/= power.

  • @TheAnnihilator12

I disagree somewhat. I think he is certainly capable of more power, but with Hate Eternal, that would actually be a bad thing since the song is almost entirely blasting. It would get really obnoxious if all you heard was the snare the entire song. Often times producers will pull back the snares during blast beats because it will sit better with the mix.

  • @cthep If it gets obnoxious to hear the snare throughout the entire song..then why did Roddy play blastbeats through the whole thing? ;p If the drummer is playing blastbeats and the producer turns down the snare (a lot) then he will most likely piss off the band/drummer :p

  • @TheAnnihilator12

Because you are listening to blast beats, not only snare. Dynamics mean anything? And yes, its common practice for to lower snare levels in blast beats, depending on the drummer's style, especially in thick mixes.

  • @cthep There is very little room for dynamics in death metal (unfortunately). In blastbeats it's extremely important to be able to hear the snare...ever been to a show and you can't hear the snare at all when a drummer starts playing a blastbeat? This isn't the soundguy's fault..it's the drummer.

A lot of drummers soundcheck by slamming on their snare, or when they play backbeats or slower stuff on the snare they hit extremely hard and then you can't hear it when they blast.

  • Derek among a few other drummers always played their snare at consistent volume no matter what they were playing...this is why you could always hear the snare :p

I understand what you're saying for final mixing purposes of a studio album but still in deathmetal I wouldn't say it is common practice to lower the snare in the mix..atleast not by a lot.

  • @TheAnnihilator12

I gotcha, all I'm trying to say is that in my opinion (shared by many others), a super loud snare during blast beats isn't always a good thing, or unnecessary at times.

  • @TheAnnihilator12 youve clearly never seen the non death metal content he has uploaded then, which include alot of accents and dynamics

  • @phildrummer I don't know which comment I made that you're referring to but I'm well aware that Derek uses dynamics in his playing.

I've seen tons and tons of his videos! I'm well aware of how he plays...hell, I even met the guy! :D

  • @TheAnnihilator12 so true. I have noticed that. Im not as fast or good as roddy, but i know my stuff. and i have noticed at lie shows sometimes you can't hear the snare during blasts, and watching vids of my band and our newer songs, i couldnt hear my snare at a blast part. so now i sound check by just doing blast beast that way they adjust the sound to a blast.lol

  • the fucking power! its amazing

  • DEREK is the king of all ha ha ha ha INSANE He is the fucking best *****

  • George Kollias.

  • what chapel fucking sux my ball sack

  • fuck no better that pete sandoval

  • FARRRRRRRR better

  • the best,in the line of that guy from terrorizer

  • you need amazing endurance to be able to do this. Derek Roddy = most intense drummer ever.

  • Oh god please stop talking about Whitechapel..this is a video of Derek Roddy damnit!

  • fucking amazing, he is my god

  • lol at cobby32, theres no such thing as too much blasting in a song, check out the song MVP by despised icon

  • loser.

  • Comment removed

  • At what point does blasting become more important than making good music? Because that song sucks compared to anything Hate Eternal has ever made. Just because you can blast faster and longer than most people doesn't mean you can make good music. Yes, blast beats are a large part of the songs in Death Metal, but not everything. The song you mentioned is literally all blast beats, and it sounds horrendous. Go back to your blast beats only corner, I'll stick with Roddy and his "shit."

  • Two Demons is "literally" all blast beats so why aren't you saying anything about that song? MVP is only blast beats for about 1/3 or 1/2 of the song in total. I do agree blasts aren't everything but if he can do them at those speeds and in time, then why not? Nothing against Roddy here by the way, he is fucking amazing.

  • It's not all blast beats, the very first riff in the song is bomb blasts, the chorus riff is a back beat with double bass, and the bridge is just double bass, if you want to get technical about it. So no, it is not all blast beats. That's why I don't say anything about it. It's a good mixture of extreme beats, and it's put together well to make an awesome song.

  • I put "literally" in quotations meaning for it to be used like you had used it. Literally means without exaggeration. It sounds to me like you were exaggerating at least a little. MVP is not "literally" all blasts. Double bass, quads, and the breakdown take up a large portion of the song in the end.

  • Okay, fair enough. Regardless, the quality of the music is what I was making a point about.

  • Wow, Youtube debates never end like this! Personally, I think both bands are great and have awesome drummers. I guess we all have different tastes, though.

  • To each his own, I suppose.

  • no one should ever insult derek! he is the god of drumming in all genres! fast, percise, intelligent, and open, accepting, and able to play all music!

  • you probably must like some gay emo shit if you don't like blast beats haha..

    Derek Ruddy RULES!!

  • ITS THE DEVIL...O.o

  • you are wrong. he's playing from the hip flexors and they have much more power as the strokes from the ankel.

but it doesn't matter...they are both awesome ;)

i like his vile shirt, because i've the same.

  • i said, that his feet, look, like tapping.. and george is a fucking monster for his speed and power, i love both of em... so u dont have to make a bad comment about me.

  • @infiniteobscure dude i was a derek roddy clinic, he pulled off the whole thing hitting tempos of 260 with no triggers, he has fucking power, you know fuck all

  • goddamnit. thats incredible. one of the sickest things i've ever seen in person.

  • I waited SO long to see 'em just in time for Erick to get problems in his hand and liver.

At an utter loss for words, other than this is the Best Death Metal Band next to Cannibal Corpse and the Death Metal family alike!

  • fucking brutal!

  • I wanna be a drummer

  • Go for it man!

    xo.

  • @mickeywantstostab start learning bro. takes allot of practice to be even half what he is.

  • i can't remember when the clinic wuz i think in the summer of 2007 and dereks' feet are just fucked up trained he sed that a few years ago he played more than 62 hours a week

  • dude dereks feet look like there having spasms!

  • i saw derek live here in belgium at a drummers clinic and i can assure you that there is no unreal stuff when he plays smart ass

  • When that guy said "unreal" he meant it as a good thing ;p

  • when was that clinic?

  • That hand swirtch is unreal

  • I know, I dont even play drums so that's even more amazing to me xD

  • yeahhh derek rules

  • Would have to say in my personal opinion

that Derek Roddy is the more accomplis- hed compared to George Kollias.Tony Laureano is another brilliant rummer, this is very well demonstrated on Nile`s amazing ITDS album.I don`t know how the hell he manages to play Churning the Maelstrom!.George Kollias openly

says Derek is the best. Buddy Rich who i saw play live 3 times,a true master.

  • Look at his kit tremble and vibrate when he plays on it. :o

  • I know he's great! You dont need to bust my balls...But are there any videos of him doing any thing other than blast beats?? Does he ever groove.

  • Are you talking about Derek? If so, check out videos of his channel "MrObsidian" theres some solos of him play ostinatos, grooves etc.

  • Derek is the man, he can do anythings !

  • not only is he a kick ass metal drummer, hes also a master of 4 way independance and can play some really sweet grooves including latin drumming and shit like that. theres heaps of vids of him grooving.

  • dayum

his snare is like thin as a piccalo snare d:

doesnt he usually use like a 6x14 sonar custom brass snare

  • he so fast that i can't even see how he's moving his foot

  • He is a king, but the real king is Kollias.

  • It is a matter of opinion, so I of course highly disagree.

Derek will always be the #1 deathmetal drummer for me.

  • hell yes!

  • goddamn

  • Derek Roddy, Pete Sandoval and Mike Smith are the best Death metal drummers

  • concerning extreme metal drumming :)

don't forget george kollias and flo mounier, they kick ass, too!

  • Which band does Sandoval play for?

  • Morbid Angel.

  • What band does Sandoval play for????????????????? Huh............Blasphemyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I'm jus kidding..we also have likes of Tony Laureano, Tim teung .nick barker steve asheim, dave suzuki, emil dragutanovic (or whatever that fukin last name is...) marco pitruzella, max kolesne , kevin talley and adam jarvis that are worth a mention!!!! metal drumming is endless there are amazing ...er fans are just lucky to see em in flesh.GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!

  • he's not fast.. :O

  • yeah! he should buy "the evolution of blastbeats"...written by the guy named derek roddy -.-

  • Death Metal Does Not Get More Powerful, Aggressive, and Coherent Than This!

  • and ONE foot singls at that speed it is unreal....

  • OMFG this is real 260-265 Bpm Holy Shit!!!!!!!

  • Shit, such endurance!

  • Goddamn blasting!!! His forearms and wrists BBBBuuuuuuuurrrrrnnniiiinnnngggggg!!

  • insane..

  • Well Put (MusicianWil) ! Very well put!

    And tight as fuck!!

  • if it is a girl i shall lick her butthole if she has nice butt!hahahahah:PPPP

  • if a guy cover this song with a singe foot blast like derek and kollias....i'll give him a blowjob

  • you can blow reno kiilerich ;)

  • i'd blow reno.

  • lolol.. what if its a girl??? :p

  • Derek is my idol

  • FUCK FUXK FUCK !

  • You guys talk shit. This is some of the best death metal ever. Maybe you prefer Obituary or Cannibal Corpse - Now that is boring. Derek Roddy is one of the fastest most intense and interesting drummers to listen to in the Death Metal scene. He takes it to a new level

  • completely agree with you, John Longstreth is another good drummer, as well as Kevin Talley

  • metalhans, i wouldnt go so far as to call Cannibal Corpse "boring"....but i will admit, they arent as brutal as these guys are...

  • Azria032 is a silly goose!

  • thilly gooth

  • hey man much respect to Derek Roddy and Hate Eternal for doing what they do and keeping it sick, but you have to have respect for the old school Death Metal such as Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy and such my friend. those are the pioneers man and they started everything. But like I always say everyone has there own opinions of what they like so thats cool man

  • I think this song title refers to Derek.

    lol.

  • If it does man i wouldn't be surprised

  • believe me I am all about death metal and blast beats but when ever beat is a blast or 16th double kick its boring and does not sound good. derek roddy is obviously an amazing drummer but this shit is borrrring

  • Erik wanted Hate Eternal to be as brutal as possible, and with KOAK I think they were close. But these songs still have groove which many people don't seem to see or hear.

  • this is hate eternal its supposed to be relentless and almost tiring to listen to on this album in question

  • dude it's a live show. it sounds better on the cd. this is my favorite song from them.

  • PAIN!!!!!!!!

  • derek kills that new drummer

  • not sure why y'all got the thumbs down - you're totally right! coldplay IS hit! - LONG LIVE HATE ETERNAL AND ALL DEATH MUSIC!

  • for sure, but Jade is a very good drummer and he does a good job for Hate eternal.

  • oh my God Derek is flying!...

  • RE-FUCKING-DICULOUS

  • and the derek version is about 100% more technical!! derek is for sure the KING OF ALL KINGS

  • I have checked it and Dereks King of all kings is 9 seconds shorter than Renos version on DVD. Derek is King of all kings

  • roddy actually is very versatile. check out his jazz videos. he's got amazing chops. he plays like a madman in this video because that's all the band required. if you knew much about him, you'd know he doesn't even drum for them anymore. :p

the guys a beast on the drums and beats out most drummers in the whole speed metal genre. deal with it.

  • Just asking, is a "chop" a video clip or something?

  • It's slang for playing abilities.

  • Ok thanks!

  • yup :D Louis Armstrong coined the term "chops" for a musician's playing abilities.

  • Loll, it's like pork chops. They taste great and Roddy's chops are great;)

  • xD! I like my chops well done. how do *you* like your chops?

  • I like 'em well done as well. But with a bit of BBQ sauce on:P
