  • Just because someone is in prison doesn't justify paying slave-wages and taking advantage of them. Big Biz loves this, they don't have to go overseas to find sweat labor anymore.

People may not like prisoners, but don't forget whose really screwing you, and that is Big Biz and the banks.

  • Shouldn't everyone have to do work, or contribute to society in some manner? I'm waiting for the day the Young Turks claim humans have the innate right to food and protection, and asking humans to work in return for those things is horridly cruel.

  • @MrJohngalt2011

What is the percentage of drug related crimes?

How much more likely are you to be prosecuted for a drug or alcohol related offense than a financial crime?

When a select few can purchase legislation it's like they will do so.

  • Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex. This is another worrisome incentive for government to concentrate power. Like defense it is easy to accuse a naysayer of being soft on crime. Better than defense funding this seems twice as lucrative.

  • Excellent! Thank you, MainStreetInsider!

  • If private corporations can benefit from people in prisons..

and we know corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money to influence laws to their favor...

... then doesn't it seem inevitable that the government will be encouraged find any excuse to put more and more people in prisons?

Conservatives should be just as outraged by this as Liberals. This is an abuse of gov power by any standard. So why aren't they?

  • @booley Well, I figure they like it this way, How bout you?

  • @imrnlil I'm sure they love getting work for free.

And politicians get to claim to be "tough on crime"

  • Yes, Prisoners should sit in their cells, watch TV and workout all day long. No need to work... I bet their biggest concern is not a large enough LCD TV to watch HBO on.

  • @MrJohngalt2011 It doesn't matter to me what they do all day long. Don't you get it? Send these people out to work for next to nothing and you suck more jobs out of an already strapped labor market. Plus, you create an unfair environment for those employers who now can't compete. It's like have little China's all over the country.

  • @imrnlil Prison should be uncomfortable and unpleasant. If you are worried about taking jobs from Americans - bring back prisoners breaking rocks all day long or have them dig huge holes with spoons. My point is prisoners are coddled way too much.

  • @MrJohngalt2011 I would much rather see those who can benefit from it receiving therapy, learning a trade, living in decent conditions and being prepared to reenter society.

  • @imrnlil They can do that after breaking rocks or digging ditches with spoons for 8 hours a day/7 days a week/ 365 days a year. This is prison not a summer camp. These are citizens that have broken the rules of society, hurt or killed others.

  • @MrJohngalt2011 We've been doing pretty much just that. How's that working out for us? Some have committed crimes that they will never come back from.. Frankly, I really don't want to treat anyone like they're worthless not much percentage in it.

  • @MrJohngalt2011 if you were forced to be away from home in any event it'll be uncomfortable n unpleasant. comfort or the lack of isn't what makes a man commit or continue to commit crimes. i would provide my own theory...but chances are u probably would not accept it. Keep reading n keep listening u will get it soon
