as far as i know, ccp never put that fitting screen in eve. only more the right side of the fitting screen but it doesn't have the left side that is showed in this video
This interface was way sexier than the one they actually implemented, but it was a bit difficult to use in reality (with those boxes on the left and right it was impossible to scale the interface at all). As most of your screen is already filled with stuff, having a fitting screen that takes up that much space - with transparent wings - was a pretty bad idea.
If you've read the earlier comments or noticed when ryaneebs made this video, it's because these were preliminary UI designs before it was officially released on the public server.
This is an early test version. The left side seen in the video was removed and rigs and lowslots traded places on the circle. Otherwise everything shown here is what you should see ingame.
Depends. Alot of EVE people seem to have a dislike for former WoW players, or something. Considering the games are radically different (to quote Artanis from Starcraft, but with truth this time instead of as a joke, "This is not Warcraft in space!!!"), you need to consider the fact that you won't necessarily play EVE the same way you did even most other MMOs. EVE tends to be praised for its uniqueness and freeform nature.
Yeah, I can see that. It's very complex and difficult so I began to wonder if it is really fun and worth my time. I always liked that kind of s-f games but I was forced to play WoW because of its popularity... for 4 years.
I used to play WoW, once upon a time. Lost interest after a few months or so, I think. Had a full stable of characters in the tens and twenties, I think... But two years ago, I first went to check out EVE. Kinda trailed off as the trial wound down, unfortunately. But then my usual gaming crew said they were getting in on EVE, and I resurrected my trial character and joined them. I've found my place and am a permanent resident of New Eden. If you like it, too, you'll never really leave.
I also was in CoH for about 21 months- At least, that's what's apparent since I have the 21-month veterancy rewards in that game. Did some Guild Wars, too... But EVE feels like it'll have my soul rather permanently. And certainly plays different from the rest. But there can be comparisons made in some respects, like my role when I'm involved in space battles or fleet actions is a support one. You might say I'm like a space-priest or space-paladin. But really not appropriate, in the end.
WoW was my first MMO, I was a hardcore raider in one of the top european guilds...but the grind started to annoy me and I left. I'm planning to get SWTOR when it comes out, but I have to do something in the meantime :p
I really do like how the game is almost entirely setup so the players essentially make their own destinies. It's a neat system for those who can embrace it. Right now, the Alliance that my gaming crew's Corporation is in is trying to establish a presence in one of the regions beyond Empire space. We're renting from one of the established player Alliances so they don't decide to kick us out and help protect us from hostile Alliances.
Anyway, there can be a bit of grinding to EVE, but all the Skills are mostly just time-based to gain, with the only way to speed them up is to have higher Attributes in the ones that particular skill relies on. The gaining cash to buy better hardware and acquire skill books for brand-new skills instead of enhancing existing ones can be a bit grind-y, I suppose, but I generally don't feel like it is. And how you gain cash depends on what kind of field you go into, too.
Especially as I can also load up a battleship with tanking hardware and bristling with cannons and act as the fleet tank with damage-dealing, if I want. But besides fleet combat, there's the logistics of space empires to consider. There are plenty of players who spend their days mining, or manufacturing, or trading things, and rarely do space combat.
Without those players who do all those crafting and economical roles, the combat pilots would be at a loss for hardware to use in battle. It's mutually beneficial for combat pilots to help the guys making their ship modules.
That's something, there, as well. Almost the entire market and trading scene is player-run. If you're buying things from a station, chances are another player placed those items at the station in a 'sell order'. The only exception are the skill books bought from schools.
I figure it's because missiles can be a bit iffy in pvp battle. Certain enemies can outrun them, and overall the lack of insta-hit can be seen as a disadvantage. Torps, for sure, are really short ranged and likely hard to work in PvP. I'm a gunnery pilot, so I don't know, really, but I do have Caldari corpmates and I've watched those torps go nowhere. However, one of my fellow officers accidentally fired like two or three salvos of Torps at me... shields were half gone on my shield tanker.
If you have a large monitor like 22 inch or like mine 24 inch, forget the game, you'll go blind playing it, I tried it for the 2 week trial and gave up as the tiny and I mean tiny text on 1920 x 1200 gave me headaches.
so umm don't play it on 1920 x 1200? instead go a lower resolution like 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024... it allows u to ez change it in the video settings window
My monitor has 1920 x 1200 as the optimum setting, that's what the monitor has been designed to work bast at. CCP just didn't have the foresight to foresee the onset of large monitors. It's up to them to fix his problem, as they have had many many complaints about it. If you don't believe me check the forum.
dude, there is an option in the general settings to change the font. And honestly I play in the same res as you, on a 24" and I can read everything fine. I think you might need glasses bud =)
Not seen any mention of that on the forum, and I have written to CCP's CEO in Iceland regarding this issue, so if 'he' says so, then ok, but till then, I have zero intention of renewing my account, no matter how spectacular the Eve promos are.
I also have a 24" monitor that has 1920x1200 native/optimal. I also have no problem reading anything on the EVE interface, same as minerpewpew/ryaneebs. Honestly, I've seen these complaints a few times before, and I just find it hard to believe. Some guy tried to argue that a 30" at 2560x1600 is different from a 24" at 1920x1200 when people tried to argue with him about the readability of the text. Maybe they're cheap monitors that use TN or something?
Seriously- it's a matter of dpi- it's rather universal on all good monitors, and determines the actual size of graphics. Things tend to be kept in proportion- this is why 24" monitors are used for 1920x1200, for instance. There should be no difference in size of elements on quality monitors of varying diagonal and native resolution, due to the nature of dpi and how resolutions are handled by computers. To think otherwise is to be delusional. 19" and 1440x900 has comparable dpi to 24".
Don't misread me- I do not mean that the game should not accomodate those with poor monitors/intolerance for the size of the text. But I just wish to point out that not everyone has a problem, and that the size of the monitor does not factor in as much as you may think. You might want to do some research on dpi. From what I've looked up, monitors tend to stay between 90 and 100 dpi for their native resolutions, while having their own separate dpi for how precise they can be regardless of res.
Well *I* per say have a problem with the tiny text, and it is up to CCP to fix the problem, as they should have foreseen the text size issue with large monitors. Either way, the CEO of CCP, now knows about it, so I'll wait to see if he replies. If he never does, ah well, it was a bit of fun for 2 weeks, and someone at CCP will be a million isk better off.
It was the trial account. And I don't care for the loss or not to CCP, just the loss of my sight via the tiny text, and yeah the game has potential when you get past the slow pace as you get used to it.
Only slow in empire space, really. Had my trial by fire in 0.0/NullSec/NullSpace/The Black (whatever you want to call it- I like to try and get it called 'the Black' in honor of Firefly/Serenity) this weekend, and that $#!t is hectic. Thankfully the Alliance I'm in is renting in the space of a strong coalition of Alliances that seems to be keeping the vicious Alliances at bay and maybe we can consolidate.. Even in Empire, mission running was enjoyable for me, but time to switch gears.
I think you missed my point on large monitors not really being any different, pixel-for-pixel, to smaller monitors. Not to any significant extent, anyway. There's a reason it is 24" before 1920x1200 is allowed to be displayed by a monitor, after all. As I said, it's more about dpi than actual monitor size.
In fact, for people who have problems with the dpi rating for 24" monitors at 1920x1200, it would perhaps behoove them to know that a 27" monitor generally has the largest pixels of any display when at its 'native res' of 1920x1200 (a marginal difference of a few fractions of a millimeter, really). It really is just a matter of calculations.
Anyway, perhaps you should check under the 'General Settings' section of the game's Options menu and set the Context Menu Fontsize up a few points and Font Width to Expanded. Perhaps it should have more options there, but really, it's just as much the consumer's fault for failing to choose a better-quality or more fitting monitor for them as it is the programmers for not foreseeing complications.
I have looked in the forum and the general settings IIRC only counts for the comm window, and not the main interface, and as for quality monitors mine is a hyundai w240d, a decent quality one.
Actually, if you change the Font Width, that changes everything, and you can even see the change immediately. I don't like the text like that, though- I think it's too big and just looks weird on my 24". But I figure it makes it easier to read. It's better than nothing, and you can still campaign for better text settings. And I'll take your word for the Hyundai.. I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC, myself. Anyway, I figure monitors with lower dpi or pixel pitch ratings are better for you.
I shall bear that in mind but you should bear in mind my 2 week trial ended last July, so and until I receive a reply from the CEO, I will have zero to do with Eve.
THere was a gift shuttle to all the pilots at the fifth anniversary. it's called apotheosis, and is suspected of being Jovian. Other than that Jove Ships and Jove Space are not accessible to players at this moment
Thanks for the HD vids, actually you were allready added, i know you from nubhelpchan. im one of the nubhelp-r's, but not here.
nice monitor, FTW.
For those on less, dont update your comp next time, go get 2560. ;P not a HD tv, the real deal. this game is unbelievable, i cant wait to get 3 of these dells....
CCP is so awesome!
mmm apocrypha.
If i wasnt so heavy on corp ops, I would join you out there in the great beyond, It is about playinig anyway right?
Nice vid man gj... that new thing at the end will really help 0.0 ratters that need a quick refit for pvp or gangs who need to quick refit for RR... now all they need to do is get rid of that damned smack talk and docking delay for undocking.
I have watched all your videos now. Very neat. I just started Eve and I can't wait for the new features. I even look forward to the carebear astroids!
They just updated the ship fit menu, but they bombed the gfx ATM for ships and stuff, once then hammer it all I will make a new one of the Render in Render version of the ship fitting screen
... that puts it all in the hold? Is that even an option while in space? Jeez, that'd make me feel silly, having played so long and not noticed a 'fit to active ship' option for stuff in lootable wrecks in deep space...
why dont they put good shit on tranquility

Nice vid man gj... that new thing at the end will really help 0.0 ratters that need a quick refit for pvp or gangs who need to quick refit for RR... now all they need to do is get rid of that damned smack talk and docking delay for undocking.

I don't like the fitting manager - as a griefer in caldari space, my biggest source of lulz is checking out the fail-fits on my killboard.

They just updated the ship fit menu, but they bombed the gfx ATM for ships and stuff, once then hammer it all I will make a new one of the Render in Render version of the ship fitting screen

lol, ship name, "I AM AWESOME"
Naibasaki 2 years ago 4
all looks cool but they should have an option in the drop down menu when you loot a ship to just add everything to you hold with one click
killallianceftw 2 years ago
you can always do it the old fashion way, select all, then right click -> Fit to active ship
ryaneebs 2 years ago
... that puts it all in the hold? Is that even an option while in space? Jeez, that'd make me feel silly, having played so long and not noticed a 'fit to active ship' option for stuff in lootable wrecks in deep space...
