My brother who was a US Marine, PSD 1ST Marines, got out of the Marines and drank for 2 years he was my best buddy. He died on March 4th 2011. He went into a seizure and had a heart attacked died for 20 mins, was RST. then lived two more days. Alcohol is a killer I was really bad my self always in the hospital and detox's. After a while people the doctors can't do anything for you they have not found a way to get people off of alcohol after a point in progression of alcohol use.
How much did this guy drink? Or how much do you need to drink to get dt's? I have gone through w/d and am terrified to drink anymore. After drinking non-stop for about 3-4 years I think I drank enough to damage my short-term/working memory and can't believe I'm still alive...can't imagine how heavy drinkers of 20-30 years manage to function.
I thank God for giving me a second chance. I was in the same condition from alcohol

I don't think i'm an alcohlic.. i don't drink everyday but when i go and meet my friends for a drink i can't stop drinking for days..i don't know when to stop then. i went through hell at christmas..i was drinking for 5 days nonstop.. every time i tried to stop i was getting extreme withdrawal symptoms.. devastating anxiety.. shakes, insomnia, palpitations, jelly legs, felt like i was about to have a seizure or something.. extremely scary.
@EI3GNB Sounds like a super hang over to me withdrawal symptoms comes from manys years of chronic drinking.Like morning noon and night lost 2 auntie's to it both befor 40 years of age
@ EI3GNB It sound like you been through some pretty intense withdrawal symptoms. Have you met with a substance abuse counselor or psychologist? They will be able to determine if you have a substance related disorder. Typically, if any substance causes a disruption in life activities / routines it may be an issue. I strongly recommend that you speak with a professional so they can make that call. Good luck and keep your head up.
@EI3GNB Don't ever drink heavily back to back days. And yes, you can get some serious withdrawals from a several day binge if you binge like that often enough. There is a medical phenomenon called kindling and basically it is where withdrawals can come on more easily and more severely the more times you put yourself through the binge/withdrawal cycle. I know that is not worded very well, but you can google kindling for a better explanation. That's what happened to me and I had to quit.
i think once uve had the dts..u are more proned to getting them agin and more servere types of it...its like u opend a wound that will not heal ...u ruined ur immunity and thats just ur b ody telling u ...i cant fight it ne more ..so dont fuck around and drink everyday because ur lucks run out...setttle down mother fucker ...or ur gonna be a deep shit
smoking some heavy duty amounts of herb for about 4 days straight can actually get you through withdrawals w/out having to go to the doctor for librium or valium pills. Now this may not work for everyone. I know myself and my limits and my rock bottoms and smoking weed 24/7 when I was supposed to be going through withdrawals made it very tolerable. Oh I was drinking a fifith of hard alcohol plus a few beers each day. So, I've walked the walk and shot the shit and weed IS a miracle plant to me.
sounds like a good plan to smoke weed with ur drinking and never get withdrawals but must people who drink have anxiety or bad anxiety and shit and that weed will just make them paranoid...so real alcoholics dont prefer to smoke weed at all....
im a real life alcoholic and i love smoking weed. Think about...do you really think marijuana is going to make DT's any worse? if you're shaking and hallucinating and scared out of your mind about to go into seizures weed can only make you feel better. jesus...how could anything make your feel worse? i know about being paranoid when you smoke weed too. if you get anxiety from smoking weed try smoking it in the privacy of your own place and not out in a crowd.
@EdudLufetips You should go through alcohol withdrawal and then smoke some weed like i did before you call anything im saying idiotic. i have real life experience on the subject. I don't need a book to tell me about the effects of weed or DT's. weed also makes you want to sleep and eat everything in the house. when you're going through alcohol withdrawal you can't sleep for days and everything you eat is thrown up. weed fixes that obviously and i once again I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE.
@BrendanIsCool nobody in the history of the human race has ever died from heart complications related to marijuana. ever. weed increases your heart rate, but also makes you want to sleep. Get some weed and become and alcoholic and do some scientific research. weed isn't going to get this dude out of a coma, but if somebody offered a joint while shaking from withdrawals id take it in an instant.
@FlamingCannibal of course marijuana is completely safe. duh. But alcohol withdrawal will-fucking-kill-you without intense medical intervention. Weed is not strong enough nor does it effect the body in a way that will prevent serious complications from withdrawal. Pot has great potential for many things and research is being done, but not for withdrawal.
@FlamingCannibal weed is also addictive and don't tell me its not as I have friends and family who can't stop smoking it and if they were forced to stop they would go crazy.
@coasteys this is not true, you dont have any withdrawal symptoms when you quit weed. Alcohol is the most dangerous drug, the most harmfull one, much more harmful than heroin. This is because Alcohol is like a poison to our body, something toxic, something our body cant deal with. Everytime you drink alcohol you are killing millions of your brain cells. This means alcohol is harmfull even at small doses.
@coasteys I'm saying that alcohol is surely one of the most dangerous and harmful drugs out there, if not the most dangerous one. They always tells you about Heroin, which in a common place is the worst drug to deal with, but this is just not true: alcohol is hundred times more harmful than any opiate. The point is: alcohol is toxic to our body, this means that it is harmful at any dose, even small ones. ( sorry for my bad english )
@svidrigajlov I totally agree with you on this. Alcohol is toxic and does great damage to the brain and organs at the cellular level. Type in "help me stop drinking" in the search bar on this site and read PARTS 1-12. I explained a small segment of what happens inside the human body when alcohol enters. It's scary. I presented the information from a biological/chemical view. I think the word is starting to finally get out regarding the real truth about alcohol. It's bad news.
@FlamingCannibal I definitely don't recommend smoking weed if you are in alcohol withdrawal. A person in heavy withdrawal needs a sedative, not a hallucinogen. Marijuana is a hallucinogen which a lot of pot heads don't know or like to conveniently forget.
@ flamingcannibal - I have to respectfully disagree. Self medicating with the use of any unregulated substance whether its marijuana or even your friends Xanax or something like that is not a good idea. It's best to pursue any detox under professional supervision. While marijuana does not have as harsh of side effects as most other drugs for most, it can definitely intensify substance induced delirium given its hallucinogenic effects.
My father had a seizure due to alcohol withdrawl and went in to cardiac arrest. His heart stopped beating for 7 minutes. The doctor recessitated He came back to life however no oxygen went into his brain for that time causing an anoxic brain injury. He was never on life support yet he was a vegetable on the hospital bed for 2 yrs. Througout out that time he was being fed through a tube and wore a diaper. He passed away last week. If you are or know someone with this problem please get help!!
@DiluDollz I am sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences. I am 24 at the moment and I can speak up about my issues with alcohol. I am a very bad binge drinker myself and have been sober now for roughly 4 days... I am getting the illness along with a flu bug I have caught ( I think the symptoms are flu like anyway) and it seems to get worse! I HATE the cravings so bad its just floating around in my mind the thought of a cold bourbon n coke going down my throat... IT SUCKS!
@DiluDollz sorry for your fathers passing. I have always stressed to my son the unimportant facts about being one of the crowd with drinking. I have told him the consequences when you like it too much and what can happen when it gets out of hand. Not worth getting started down that path. smoking too. cost more than soda(sometimes) but the damage is way worst than rotten teeth or burping. Thank you for sharing and caring.
a guy I know got in a car accident from drinking and driving. he got burnt really badly and is now in an induced coma for pain because he now needs skin graphs.
I drank a liter of vodka every single day for more than 4 years straight. When I finally quit cold turkey, I felt like crap for 3 days. Some sweating, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, general malaise. That was it though, and after the third day I was fine. I was lucky because not everyone can get away from a binge that hard so easily.
Yeah, amazing what a prescription can do for you. It probably did save your life. If you have seizures from alcohol withdrawal, that's very serious and considered a medical emergency.
u are more then lucky....i wish i never got ne withdrawals...that would make drinking some beer or liquor worry free...but when i got them bad i was drinnking non stop for a very long period of time...im talking about a gallon of vodka everyday..with some of my friends of corse...but drinking driving...all the time..not to mention i was always a really good driver even know how much i drank..i never use to get them that bad at all...it just happend...now its just easy proned to get them bad
I used to get terrible DTs until I drank again, my only release was AA and I know that that sounds corny as hell, but it worked, I don't know how it worked but it did and I'm grateful.
its the alcohol withdrawal that put him in the coma. the poison is the medicine when you're addicted to alcohol. if you want to stop the DT's you could start drinking again. obviously that's gonna destroy your liver eventually. anyway this is real life withdrawal.
many ways to avoid dt's: medicines that will ease symptoms such as benzodiazepines quell the overactivity of the nervous system. these are addictive in themselves but typically after four weeks- the major portion of Alc. withdrawal lasts up to 10 days, and one can use these medicines for that period of time.
a new method used is an ethanol protocol, doctors they provide small amounts of alcohol, weaning dependence as the CNS returns to normal.
there is NO NEED let it progress to DTs by goingCT
you're absolutely right. there's no need for anybody to risk going through DT's. doctors can give patients librium, or valium, which you mentioned with your benzodiazepines comment. I dont think people realize that alcohol withdrawal might be deadlier than withdrawal from any hard drugs including heroine, meth, or pills, etc. Even if you don't go into a coma, or have seizures you could have life scarring hallucinations that will haunt you.
yepp. it's important to go through a medical treatment program. these trump things like detox centers. the problem arises out of fear of getting addicted to the benzos, whose withdrawals are just as deadly and far more difficult to come off of than alcohol.
the new method i mentioned is to wean alcoholics off of alcohol itself. since an alcoholic is unlikely to be able to limit himself, doctors have been successful with this, and low dose IV ethanol it was worked in as little as 5 days!
you said it....i had some fucking insane crazy ass hallucinations that drove me to fear for my life....i prayed to god that it would go away but it didnt it would only get worse...fuck!!and some of it got so bad i kind of believed it was true...not to mention i went through the worse withdrawals ever in county jail...aint that a fuccking bitch...i was relaxing on my couch drinking some vodka when all of a sudden the cops came...so when i woke up the next morning in there omfg...i felt like death
I suffered from Moderate Alcohol withdrawal twice. Hallucinations, tremors, hearing voices, anxiety, rapid heartbeat. The first time cold turkey--the second I tapered. Tapering allowed much shorter duration and severity of symptoms.
wonderful. it's good to hear that even though you drank enough to proceed into withdrawal, you had the self-control to taper by yourself
it appears to be the best method to not only avoid the horrific symptoms of an overactive central nervous system and avoid possible death.
your assessment is absolutely correct. some patients in the ER i work in came in with self-described "several months of being constantly drunk" (which means it was probably longer) and were weaned in as little as 2-3 days.
in your description of the video, you say that this is a coma after "trying" you quit drinking alcohol. does that mean that after all this, you started drinking again?
let's not be so crass. he obviously means that in "trying" to quit he's referring to this particular episode of severe withdrawal, he decided to try to stop drinking.
relapse is common because alcoholism is a disease- not a vice- and many alcoholics have returned to moderate drinking.
Actually weed is a psychedelic and a mild hallucinogen. I've been smoking for years and am surprised that most smokers don't know this. I realize this is kind of off topic for this video but still....please do your research and know what chemicals you are putting in your body!

I suffered from Moderate Alcohol withdrawal twice. Hallucinations, tremors, hearing voices, anxiety, rapid heartbeat. The first time cold turkey--the second I tapered. Tapering allowed much shorter duration and severity of symptoms.

wonderful. it's good to hear that even though you drank enough to proceed into withdrawal, you had the self-control to taper by yourself
it appears to be the best method to not only avoid the horrific symptoms of an overactive central nervous system and avoid possible death.
your assessment is absolutely correct. some patients in the ER i work in came in with self-described "several months of being constantly drunk" (which means it was probably longer) and were weaned in as little as 2-3 days.

in your description of the video, you say that this is a coma after "trying" you quit drinking alcohol. does that mean that after all this, you started drinking again?

let's not be so crass. he obviously means that in "trying" to quit he's referring to this particular episode of severe withdrawal, he decided to try to stop drinking.
relapse is common because alcoholism is a disease- not a vice- and many alcoholics have returned to moderate drinking.

did it work? What were the more severe reprocusions?
