doesn't taste good for you, well that's because your not an asian, most western food doesn't sit well with asians too, scientist said it was something about our genes and also some are just acquired tastes. I love onigiri.
Hey guys do you know why 3steps to open the onigiri (triangle)? There is actually plastic cover between the rice and nori, so they don't stick together and nori doesn't get moist. when you pull and open the packet, you pull the plastic cover between them at the same time ( in step 2,3), so you can eat onigiri with fresh and crunchy nori!!
The key to making onigiri is to use Saran Wrap to shape the rice. You won't burn your hands, and the rice won't stick. Thank my Japanese wife for these words of wisdom.
@Hitsugate use either umeboshi (pitted, or paste form) or any other pickle (tsukemono)
Or if you want meat then anything you want from fish like canned tuna, fried salmon, bonito flakes (dried fish flakes), to any and every other type of meat like spam, beef, and so on.
I've seen it filled with chocolate and one with jam before but they were disgusting in my opinion X-)
My coworker eats that stuff. Have you ever seen the movie "Silence of the Lambs"? Onigiri reminds me of the pod (I think it was a moth cocoon) that they pulled from the dead girls throat. I remind her of this every time I see her eating it. I don't think she appreciates my observation.
I tried making onigiri last night (my first time), though I burnt the rice at first. But on my secound time, I cooked it right. And to my amazment, I formed the rice into a decent triangle onigiri. I was really happy about that. Next time i'll add some filling.
I love making onigiri. :) The hardest part of making onigiri for me is waiting 'til the rice is cool enough to handle but still hot enough to shape. I've burned my hands so many times. I don't stuff them with anything cool, either, because my hands are too small to make decent-sized onigiri. Just avocado, when it's in season. I do make little nori shapes to stick on them, though!
omg im japanese and i didnt know how to open an ongiri! thanks for teaching me! lol
