If I remember correctly these guys had a falling out with Berry Gordy over not being promoted correctly. These guys were as good as any R&B group i've ever heard, they just werent being hyped by their label.
What a song, what a song ...so melodic and harmonious, almost anthem-like in structure. Love it even more than "The whole World is a Stage". Thanks AndyMM for posting and big thanks to the FF for producing such rich music.
For some reason this particular group struck a chord with me as a little kid around the age of 10 yrs old. I used to love their songs." I Love you madly" was my favorite.
Nice to read these little stories of USA groups, for UK Soul fanatics it is nice to see Americans appreciating the legacy of this music, which is far superior to the contemporary r'nb output. Perhaps the strength of doowop and the church in these singers formative years has a lo to do with that...Also, Sweet James, one of the great 60s voices to me, love him and when people call Motown 'pop' as opposed to 'soul' they need to listen to this guys and the F4's catalogue! Soul perfection.
@chorleysoul Sweet James one of the underrated singers of all-time, Had the pleasure of seeing this group live when they came to DC in 1968 at Howard Theater what a singer
Yep, truly outstanding in my book, been playing their old 45s all afternoon. There is a moment in 'Just another lonely night' which almost defies emotional description. Can only imagine what they must have been like 'live' back then!
I am an original member of a group known as Side Effect. Always There was the group's best known release. I've listened this tune more times than I would dare attempt to remember. I'm listening to it while writing this comment. This is a classic with a lead singer whose voice I will always have the highest regard for. The bass singing underpinning the background is no joke either. This is an all time classic a performance I doubt can ever be rivaled.
i love this can you imagine a girl group singing this song. Well it was done 1966 I along with 4 girls called ourselves The Fantastic 5, We sang all over Northwest Indiana,(GARY) and won talents show including a show against the Jackson 5.I appreicate the vocals, harmony hell the group was the Bomb, this was real music. Back at you Peace
I love this song . The lyrics say,s it all. This is real music. I was in grade school when this came out. And it was a catholic school& the nuns let us have a class dance every week. This was one of the best song to dance with a girl too. You could say the lyrics , like a player. The girl,s love to hear word,s like that . Taught a lot of guys ,how to say what a girl likes to hear , in a clean way. Great song. Also the whole world is a stage. I would love to hear that song too. Anyone ,help .
The beautifully soulful follow up to "The Whole World Is A Stage" from Motown's chief competitor label. This went to #12 on Billboard's R&B charts in 1967. Fell in love with this song the first time I found an original copy in a Greenwich Village record store.
