BENEDICT XVI: "Evil is not logical. Only God and good are logical, are light."

Darkness is the absence of light. If God light and the source of all good, then evil is the absence of good as darkness is the absence of light. Evil is our animal part, the selfish instincts we needed for survival during evolution, but now they prevent us from moving to a higher consciousness. That's why it's represented by a serpent. The way to eliminate evil is by doing good, choosing contrary behaviors to our selfish instincts. That was Jesus example to us and the next consciousness level.
