Proud and honoured to be an Australian. Thank you boys for the sacrifice you made, for freedom, you fought with pride, honour and intergrity. LEST WE FORGET WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Greetings from America. Thanks for being such great allies...even when we act like bullies. Your very loyal friends to have in this world. God Bless you
As a Pom i would like to thank, on behalf of the United Kingdom, all those brave Australians and New Zealanders who came to the aid of the mother country in its time of need, not once but twice. In those wars your two countries earned a hundredfold the right to nationhood and from the bottom of my heart i salute you.
doesnt matter who sings the song. it is what it is. its australian and lets not forget the anzacs today. all others can get knotted, today is our day.
cootville, i didnt know it was voluntary, i have even more pride in what the anzacs have done now. i even have a tear in my eye. TODAY i have really aknowlaged, thought about, and thanked the anzacs for what they did. especially my pop.
"The song does not glorify war or endorse conflict of any kind."
... come on, it's not exactly anti-war, is it? It glorifies the idea of dying for one's country. How many innocents have been sacrificed by their own generals on the back of that myth? No honour is paid to those who "fell" (euphemism for "blown to bits") by sanitising the reality of war in songs like this.
Lovely greetings from Turkey to Australia and New Zealand. Our former enemys today are our friends. In this days we remember our WW1 victims. Let us apply this spilled blood together for the good of our peoples.

@ehttiboy Have a look for a song called "I was only 19", which is about young Aussie soldiers that served in the Vietnam War between '65-'72, you can find it on youtube. There is another more recent song from the 1980's Australian rock band 1927 called "Compulsory Hero" which is pretty good. Hope this info is useful.
@jslasher1 Sacrifice has been made by many. Have you ever thought that the sacrifice made by these lads has allowed you, me, and many others to live a good life? When a man joins the military he knows that the day may come where he might have to put his life on the line for his nation or a cause greater then himself. Remember, Freedom must be defended everyday....it was not just given to as at no expense! I stand with my Aussie Brothers!
Good on ya, mates and diggers. USA appreciates your friendship and sacrifices. Yes, we can hear your heroes marching, over the thousands of miles.
Gallipoli. New Guinea. North Africa. Korea. Viet Nam. Afghanistan. Iraq. Wherever tyrants push, Aussies have been there to help push back, and win the day. Rippah!

Great work on your part, Peter. A wonderful montage & commitment & dedication-to-task on your part. Good on yer, sport .. I'd have liked you to be beside me on the field of battle anytime.
"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours. ... You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well."
molodoychelovek .. congratulations on this comment !! Brilliant !! I have been to Anzac Cove, Turkey, & I have explored the entireGallipoli battlefie. And I have seen, up-close, that marvellous memorial near the beach, & Mustafa Kemal Attaturk's famous healing, comforting words of grace. It was a stunning, emotionally gut-wrenching, but simultaneously elevating, wonderful experience. Those famous words by Kemal are one of the great reasons that Turkey & Oz share such close friendship today.
gday people the anzacs fought for freedom and when i say dis i include New Zealand . the damn british used us as a distraction sothey could wait till the war dies down
Hey do you know anything? We won the war did we not? Let us celebrate, have a pint, celebrate those who lost their lives fighting for all of the allied forces out there!!
Show them that our spirits and friendship between the forces still exists!
Speaking as a damned Britisher you might care to remember that 21000 damned Brits were killed at Gallipoli ,thats twice the number of ANZACS who died.Dont believe everything you see in the movies. When I was in the army we always had a service on April 25th to remember the men of our regiment (Royal Hampshires)killed at Gallipoli. The Battalion was practically wiped out on the 25th so they were not waiting for the war to die down.Respect to the ANZACS especially at this time of the year.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
war is for psychos trained on behalf of psychopathic defence department politicians and encouraged by nationalistic bullshit. that divides the world into goodies and baddies.
this video is about remembering soldiers who died for their country . even turkish soldiers who did the same thing. its not about who won..but if you are going to go there ...you won the battle but lost the war

I have a great respect and sadness for those war dead.
But... this is a piece of jingoistic nationalistic rubbish. The lyrics barely half rhyme. Shocking. Couldn't listen past the first 30secs. You may as well have imposed a half a rugby song plus half a teen-pop song over those classic photos.
On the positive side... music like that helps me remember some of the things that cause wars in the first place.
War is not about glory. There is no glory to be had in war. Instead, Its about those who sevred before and died to protect their loved ones and the ones who have yet to serve.
"The ICRC said that it had spent four days seeking Israeli guarantees of safe passage so that it could gain access to the houses in the badly damaged Zaytun neighbourhood" of Gaza city
"In one house they discovered four small children, alive but too weak to stand, next to the bodies of their dead mothers."
"At that point they were ordered to leave by Israeli soldiers manning a post some 80 metres away"!!
A very moving tribue - great work. This song & video / still-shot clip is NOT about the glorification of war - every digger who ever served in action will tell you that. Rather - It's all about remembrance; about giving eternal thanks, recognition and expressing our pride ; about keeping alive the flame of honour & memory of our former & current serving men & women of arms - those glorious heroes who gave & continue to give so much for our country. WE HONOUR YOUR SACRIFICE and love of liberty !!
Australia and Canada are the same in many ways with how there army's were in WW2. The only big difference is that Australia was mostly fighting the Japs and the Canadians were fighting the Germans. And i can see y to. Australia had to defend against a enemy that was next door almost. The Germans were across the world. Good video.
I heard a lot about Australia's heroes marching. Have you buggers forgotten what the NZ in the middle of "Anzac" stands for? And guess who had the higher casualty rate/paid the bigger price....
Well it definitely wasn't you personally was it? I don't know the percentages or the statistics except Australia lost 1 third of its population and a lot of New Zealanders died. Don't bring up this bullshit about who did what, who lost more, every Australian and new Zealander died for the same cause.
Mate, you're making the usual mistake, because you don't know/have forgotten that the AIF included a division of New Zealanders. The Anzac casualty numbers are distorted by this alone; please, please, no more of this one third crap either. 13% of the eligible Australian population served in both combatant and non-combatant roles - you work the rest out (based on the generous Australian AND NZ casualty rate of 64%). Truth is better than mythology in history, son.
YOUR A COMPLETE FUCK HEAD...YES nEW zEALAND DID PUNCH WELL ABOVER THEIR WEIGHT IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR.. BUT WAT ABOUT FIRST WORLD WAR? AUSTRALIA IS FUCKING CREDITED WITH SAVING FRANCE.. AND WE HAD THE BIGGER CASUALTY PER CAPITA AND WE (EMPHASIS ON WE) HAD A PURELY COLUNTEER ARMY
"Give me 2 Australian Divisions and I will conquer the world" - General Rommel...
o wait... he said Australian... bloody hell..wheres New Zealand? i guess they werent there 0.o and u had highest casualty rate per capita coz u had fucking 100 people max population... if Australia hadve gone down wby the Japs u woodve been coming down with us mate, u can thank us for saving ur god damn insignificant, shit at sport, moari asses
ok, ill tell u right now, im not australian but i want to remember what they did, now if im not mistaken wasnt the name of the African front for the nazis named Rommel and the desert fox?
lol ur a dumb fuck mate, im not even gonna bother with you..but please...get ur facts right before u atte,pt to argue sumthing..and let me just quote sum1 very famous "give me 2 australian divisions and i will conquer the world"
Erwin Rommel never said what is implied here: While speaking with a captured British intelligence officer after El Alamein he remarked; I could have done with two New Zealand Divisions, things might have been different then! But one has to admit this: The fighting qualities of the Anzacs were second to none in either wars 1914 or 1939. Also the Australians fighting in New Guinei against the Japanese shows such incredable courage and sheer guts!
don't give a fuck mate, take your negativty else where, their heros all the same, no matter what, no matter who died more or anything. were all the same and stand together
"Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching? is a national war memorial song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage, and sacrifice." - comment by the author of the song
this song makes me cry because i had family that were in the army and makes me rember of all the aussies that died for our country in wars over the years
I didn't understand a part of ur introduce. What about to protect their land??? They fought and died in anatolia 24 hrs with plane. what an interesting about both? I'm a Turk. I'm respecting you but really what about this...
Hi Sancha, Australia is not celebrating the attack on your homeland which your men defended so bravely and had every right to do. We simply mourn the loss of so many young Australian boys who died on foreign soil and away from their home. It was a tragedy for all the countries. Turkey is our friend and has treated our dead with great respect.
'Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well' Kemal Ataturk on Gallipoli
Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching?' is a national war memorial song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage and sacrifice. The song is timeless and honours the memory of those who have died in the service and defence of Australia in war. The song does not glorify war or endorse conflict of any kind. The song simply highlights the sacrifice of many Australians who died in the service and defence of our country in war. (Comment by Peter Barnes - author of the song)
Proud and honoured to be an Australian. Thank you boys for the sacrifice you made, for freedom, you fought with pride, honour and intergrity. LEST WE FORGET WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
least we forget

Don't bring up this bullshit about who did what, who lost more, every Australian and new Zealander died for the same cause.
SynysterBlonde 3 years ago
Mate, you're making the usual mistake, because you don't know/have forgotten that the AIF included a division of New Zealanders. The Anzac casualty numbers are distorted by this alone; please, please, no more of this one third crap either. 13% of the eligible Australian population served in both combatant and non-combatant roles - you work the rest out (based on the generous Australian AND NZ casualty rate of 64%). Truth is better than mythology in history, son.

Perhaps you could do a video on NZ's war contribution.
If you visit the Shrine in Melbourne there is the NZ flag hanging proudly in inside.
New Zealand is not forgotten.

lol ur a dumb fuck mate, im not even gonna bother with you..but please...get ur facts right before u atte,pt to argue sumthing..and let me just quote sum1 very famous "give me 2 australian divisions and i will conquer the world"
australianproud 3 years ago
Erwin Rommel never said what is implied here: While speaking with a captured British intelligence officer after El Alamein he remarked; I could have done with two New Zealand Divisions, things might have been different then! But one has to admit this: The fighting qualities of the Anzacs were second to none in either wars 1914 or 1939. Also the Australians fighting in New Guinei against the Japanese shows such incredable courage and sheer guts!

I didn't understand a part of ur introduce. What about to protect their land??? They fought and died in anatolia 24 hrs with plane. what an interesting about both? I'm a Turk. I'm respecting you but really what about this...
SancharKhan 4 years ago
Hi Sancha, Australia is not celebrating the attack on your homeland which your men defended so bravely and had every right to do. We simply mourn the loss of so many young Australian boys who died on foreign soil and away from their home. It was a tragedy for all the countries. Turkey is our friend and has treated our dead with great respect.
Greetings and peace from Australia.
