I took my 17" imac to apple store when a line appeared and they fixed it for free! crazy I know, it was out of warranty but all I had to do was ring applecare and they said they would fix it for free.
I know you settled this already but they would've repaired it free. I got my iMac sometime in September 2006 Along with Apple Care. My Apple Care Coverage Ended on September 23rd 2009.
I got a Blue vertical line down the middle around October 16. Roughly 2 weeks after it expired. I Called AppleCare and they only asked me to confirm my Address for the nearest AppleStore so they can schedule a free repair. Call was no longer than 8 minutes and they were cool about it.
Hi I have the same problem. Contact the office of fair trading- you have to contact the store which you brought your mac from by registered letter. You can threaten to take the store to the small claims court if they do not replace or repair the mac. DO IT NOW! It doesnt cost you anything even if does go to court. Perhaps if Apple UK are forced to accept there is a problem then Apple US will register it to and do an extended warantee on all 17" imacs.
yep... me too....got 6 lines on my 17" white iMac
