  • so cool to wonder what nintedo creator would think opf nintendo today. imagine it was possible for dead people to visit life for a day & it happenend to nintendo creator.

  • it's not 100% true what you say at beginning. you show a box with mario mario. he didn't exist back then.

  • summer wars fans unite :D

  • I got this yesterday and love it a lot. The rules written are vague so I thought I would watch this to see if I was playing right. 8^D

  • i clicked the link, but it brought me to this random russian website.

  • I LOVE this game

  • Summer wars brought me here.

  • Hahaha. We play it differently in Hawaii.

  • 125 years 125 likes i will give it one more

  • Also anyone with different rules, Hanafuda are the cards. There are different games that use them. Koi-koi is just a main one. There are other ones used. Koi koi was a gentlemans game and it wasn't the main gambling game using Hanafuda.

  • You and I have very different terminology and point system, I'm afraid, but this is certainly a common way to play Koi-Koi

  • This was helpful I first heard of hanafuda in summer wars then wanted to play it ao I downloaded it on my iPhone but I this video explained the rules and hands better

  • thanks! now to rewatch Summer Wars. lol

  • Must figure a way to play Fizzbin with these cards, haha. (Kudos if you get the reference)

  • I just got my box! It's awesome : O Now I got to figure out how to play ...

  • 5:45, That's not a moon. That's Boo. ):

  • DAMN U SUMMER WARS!!! for makin me buy hanafuda cards n makin me learn the friggin hard ass rules... >.>

  • @lxdannydxl100 I definitely searched this game up after summer wars too. Simply a FANTASTIC movie and a terrific game too. We play it a little differently, but its still very similar.

  • 100TH LIKER~.

Was a really good explanation. <: Such a confusing game~. Thanks!

  • Anyone else search this up because of Summer Wars?... No just me? Darn...

  • @lxdannydxl100 thats why i'm here! lol i was soooo confused.

  • played this card game so many times. a fisherman's game. fun for some. boring for me. best to play with older women from the pacific. japanese and koreans are smart too in this game.

  • 800 stars? Wow, I payed 2500 stars for it here in Europe. So just for the info, how much stars do you earn in the US? 200 to 250 per game, just like here?

  • @KyosBlog Nah, we earn 50 coins (Equivalent to Stars) per game, basically $1 for 1 coin. Then we get 10 coins 4 weeks later off the bat for an extra "Post-Play Survey". And if you say you intend to buy a certain game and register it within I think 2 weeks of the game's release, then you get another 20 coins on top of that. So if you're clever, you can get up to about 80 coins for one Wii game, or 60 for one DS game.

  • i found this game online! haha After watching the movie "Summer Wars" I got curious. Thanks for explaining the rules! Tist helps a lot XD

  • I tought myself how to play though a flash game :3

  • Lol I got a little rement version of it. Each card is as big as my thumb.

  • i thot the japanese created this game ;/

  • @AnimeYoukai911 They did. watch the video :S

  • Hanafuda is simple enough to get, but I always wind up asking the little questions that nobody can explain. Like, "What do you do when your card matches two or more on the field? What happens if you have three of the same month in your hand? Do you pair off cards in your hand at the start, or not?", and even MORE questions like that. Is there a document explaining all the little things like that somewhere?

  • thanks JewWario for this video. i have also found a new hanafuda game that came out for the ds. it's a good game, but i like super hanafuda it's a torney koi koi game, and the hanafuda for the snes is a good game.

  • can you fix the link for the rules?

  • Hanafuda seems confusing =/ But I still wanna get the Nintendo Hanafuda cards haha.

  • Awesome vids man! Just ordered these cards myself, any idea what they are made of?? Plastic and a sticker? Or did nintendo keep it real and put it on mulberry bark? Please respond! Thanks!

  • Thats no moon! Its a battle s-I mean Boo Diddley.

  • Thanks man I'm geting mine from club Nintendo. Now I know how to play. Buts it's still in the mail :(

  • Thanks a lot for making this video!

  • lost me at getting those weird card combination point thing... aaah..

does look interesting.. and for a very ignorant comment i need to apologize in advance for... i guess this is why some asian people are smarter than me. lol no offence intended to no-one... except myself perhaps.. hehe

  • where did you get the cards ? :)

  • I played this game with my friends and they looked at me like WTF this is a real game. XD

  • I've recently developed an interest in this game and have been doing a lot of research. One thing I've noticed is a lot of conflict regard the point values of Yaku. The value of the Lights Yaku in particular seems to be different for each site. One claims the Five Lights is worth 10 points, another that it is 16 points and yours that it is worth 15 points. I'm curious as to why there is so much discrepancy over Yaku Values. Everyone however seems to agree that 10 Plains and 5 Ribbons is 1 point.

  • @Stoneth I've always played 'Five Lights' is 15 points. Also 'Four Lights' with the Rain card is 8 pts and without is 10 pts just as this video shows. I have two different Koi~Koi games on my iPhone and both of them use this scoring system as well.

  • call it go stop more simpler

  • you forgot to add in the dealers privilege part when both players get no yakun in one round.

  • 日本の"花札"を紹介してくれてありがとう。(^-^)

    5 stars

  • What month is the sake cup in?

  • just 100 more coins on Club Nintendo till can get them, i still wish there was a metroid one snuk in there. :(

  • JewWario, just to let you know I'm pretty sure you mixed up the november and december sets. I'm thinking the december months of Japan brought alot of rain, hence princess peach holding up an umbrella

  • @jamalamack actually he's very much correct if you get the cards off club nitendo look at the instructions and there's a table of the months and rainy month is in november not in december... trust me I have those cards too...

  • I'm glad you showed us with the Nintendo cards because those are the ones I got. This makes it a lot easier. Thanks!

  • You know, you can play Hanafuda on-line through GameDesign.

    Just google: Hanafuda Flash

  • so can you order diferent kinds like i saw a deck at 2:24 with sir fransis drake on it?

  • I believe those are the most popular set of Hanafuda worldwide. And, yes, there are several websites that offer Hanafuda cards.

  • isnt that napolean?

  • @MisTaHTaKi Haha yea, Napoleon Hanafuda cards are actually really popular for some reason. I personally love my Nintendo deck best (same one as used in the video).

  • amaving, im saving for those things right know. 400 points so far 400 to go.

  • Great explanation of the game! I have been staring down those hanafuda nintendo cards for a while now, but I never knew how to play. This vid pretty much gives me all the info I needed thanks! But i think im gonna have to watch the point section a couple of times...so many different point combonations!

  • Wow. So much information. So much funny facts. Just when I thought there was no other gamer than The Nerd...

JewWario shows a lot of knowledge, and he's actually funny and polite, so mannered. That's a pretty original concept nowadays.

    FUNK FUJIYAMA! YEI!

  • That's a pretty interesting card game. Pretty cool designs too.

  • What was that Website you were on for the Hanafuda cards?

  • every one is dissing the hanafuda cards on youtube!!! are they realy that small?

  • I do have a link to the side that has printable rules. But as the game is so old and so many places have their own way of playing this game... there are no "Official" rules sites per-se. Well, that I personally have found.

  • Hey, I just found my old Hanafuda cards (instructions are in Japanese, so I don't understand them). I've been looking for the rules online. However, there are some differences between the webpages. Is ther an "official" place I can look for the "official" rules?

  • I just got mine in the mail today. and the rules and point system is different from what you have just stated. The rules on dealing are 2 at a time. I'm not being a jerk, i'm just wondering where you got the rules because I got my cards from Club. Nintendo with my Coins just like you.

  • No worries, my friend.

Dealing cards is not so different. It honestly doesn't matter HOW you deal, just as long as there are 8 cards in the center and each player has 8.

Each place has their own rules of dealing cards... so it's ok to do it differently. I learned through the Hanafuda video games and through the Japanese rules I got with a different set. So those were the ones I used.

It's ok however you wish to deal. Cheers, and enjoy.

  • @JewWario can you find what rules they were using during summer wars when natsuki went up against love machine? I know this is out of the blue but this looks similar to what rules they were using and i just want to be sure.

  • As far as the point values being different, those are also of variable differences depending on where you learned from.

The ones on the Nintendo brand and in the Nintendo games are 1 point different than what I said.

For accuracy, you are correct. I should have gone with what Nintendo was using.

  • I bought those cards Monday and they just came in the mail and I don't understand how to play that well. Thanks for the upload!

  • how do you join the nintendo club anyways?

  • I seen that deck of Mario Hanafuda cards on the nintendo club website. I have been eyeballing them for quite a while . Cool stuff

  • Nice insight into Nintendo's history

  • You got me very interested JewWario!! Thank you so much for all your interesting videos! Im gonna look more into Hanafuda cards! I am not just saying this to be nice, I really will!

  • Hehe, I bought Clubhouse Games today at Futureshop for 19.99$ And I am waiting for a deck of Hanafuda cards featuring Mario (like yours).

  • Cool. I'm glad I could interest you.

In the next video I'll show the Japanese video games you can play. Some of them are... SPICY!
