By the way France is the only Country to have a national day to commemorate slavery from September African and West Indians will be able to learn about slavery at school and learn Creole
Nothing wrong with black people the fight for reparation still goes on and we will get it
currently, whites are first in line in corporate america, gov't america, and educational america. And, now you want to be first in line in the bread line? lol...yeah...OK.*smh*
good points but u forgot to mention that free blacks bought their family members out of slavery so in records it would look like they were buying slaves to work for them but that was not the case
and most everyone knows it was about capitalism. yet, it was perpetuated by racism, which is just as bad.
also, blacks who owned slaves is kinda a tired argument...similar to the argument that of africans sold blacks into slavery in first place so it's their own fault. lol. africa was wrong (which many apologize every time we go over), and black slave owners were wrong (no matter how minuscule their numbers), and the largest perpetrators of human injustices in america, whites, were wrong.
i remember reading about white slaves in elementary school. yet, most white slaves where indentured servants who could earn their freedoms. no so with blacks. tho, the likely reason white slaves gets little attention is their numbers were quite minuscule when compared to blacks. one example i've read is it is like attempting to point out that catholic nuns who were killed during the holocaust in germany. they were, but...the focus is on the biggest atrocity and numbers damages.

To the reader. I intended to discuss with darqlord:
1 the atrocities of slavery in any form
2 the need to learn from the past
3 whites were wrong for enslaving in the past. Many whites were against slavery & states rights in the south that protected it. Many whites died in the civil war.
4 Unicef & US state dept reports slavery is still being practiced in Africa, Thailand, ect
5 David Wilson & Msnbc should have addressed this atrocity but did not.
There is still slavery in the USA... It is called sex slavery...I saw a documentary of people from poor countries in Europe who were snuck over here to be sex slaves...There is still some form of slavery on every continent... But, it is abhorred and being fought everywhere...
and let's be clear here. the 13th and 14th amendments simply stopped whites from doing something they SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DOING IN THE FIRST PLACE! How is that payment? lol. when a rapist finishes/stops rapping a victim, is that payment enuf is your eyes...? interesting logic, self-gratifying, yet interesting. and finally, a lot of good the 15th amendment did since it took almost another 100 years and the passage of the voting right act of 1965 for it to actually be enforced.
To the reader. I had to revisit darqlords responses because he would not honestly contextualize my comments. darqlord states "I imply by saying forget about it and focus on problems in other countries." I said no such thing. Read my comments and then read his mischaracterization of them. I had two goals in mind, stated in various ways, that darqlord refused to address.
1 stop living punitively regarding the past
2 focus on injustice of slavery and cruelty in our present day.
really, hutch? lol. how did you address it? by saying forget about it and focus on problems in other countries...that make you feel...less guilty..? lol. again, this is remedial and boring. i'm done replying to a person ladened with guilt and enveloped in denial. go in pieces, as my work is done here. i bet you'll neva use the civil war as a crutch again. LOL!!!!! after these, I will no longer respond to you in this post.
...yes, david, he pointed to atrocities in other countries but won't address the atrocities in his own backyard. what can we do about that, david? ...the white one.
Dear David Wilson, having addressed the nightmare of slavery, & the atrocities of my Sioux decendents, the death of 600,000 in a civil war that gave rise to the 14th & 15th amendments, having listed the ongoing injustices in Africa, the United States, Thailand, Brazil, India, Nepal, darqlord says I "won't address the atrocities in his own backyard." But I did David I really did, please read my posts. Now add darqlord to the tragedy for he says "it's a bit closer to remedial and boring."
"3 "But, you'll say it to blacks, won't you?" All can read I said no such thing. Obviously darqlord stereo-typed & disenfranchised me when he ran out of substance."
I guess substance is in the eye of the beholder. Yet, I fail to see how not addressing any of my stats and trying to make this personal has anything to do with substance. actually, it's a bit closer to remedial and boring.
"1 "darqlord willingly chose not to focus on my follow-up comment explaining my use of the word slavery."
Say what you will, you are still wrong. the civil war was about secession. address that.
"2 darqlord deliberately chose the victim role. Read my comments. I implied no such thing."
Lol? victim? How? I am, but most standards, quite successful: academically, professionally, and socially. Why hutch, you missed the entire backboard. Lol...
1 "And yet, you are wrong on that point of fact."darqlord willingly chose not to focus on my follow-up comment explaining my use of the word slavery.
2 "so you know me? or am I the typical "person" who makes these comments?" darqlord deliberately chose the victim role. Read my comments. I implied no such thing.
3 "But, you'll say it to blacks, won't you?" All can read I said no such thing. Obviously darqlord stereo-typed & disenfranchised me when he ran out of substance.
Dear David Wilson I watched your movie & the discussion at Howard University with great interest. When I was 13 I stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tenn where Martin L King was shot & have never forgotten that moment. David what we need now are people of vision who look forward into the future like Dr. King did. I have posted current atrocities listing the numbers of innocent people suffering & get nothing but silence, sarcasm or cold responses in return. David can you help?
Moreover, do you say "get over it" to the Jews, Native Americans, Japanese Americans placed in concentration camps? Lol... not likely. But, you'll say it to blacks, won't you? Why is that?
"Outrage...?" lol... so you know me? ...or am I the typical "person" who makes these comments?
"My point was let's stop reliving the past and work together on the future."
Says who? Someone who understands the black experience? Thanks, but I'd prefer taking advice from someone who understand and perhaps lived the experience than listening to someone on the outside looking in.
"I have spent enormous amounts of time on cessation, states rights, civil war, 14th, 15th amendment, Appomattox couthouse, reconstruction ect. ...I simplified a discusson point to a bite size piece."
And yet, you are wrong on that point of fact. The civil war was not about slavery.
"You said: "whether you've paid enuf is another argument for another time. Says who?""
Says me if you are trying to use the civil war as an example of payment.
edit: "whether you've paid enuf is another argument for another time that is best illustrated by a more direct action by the powers that [be than that] of the civil war."
in fact, had the south wanted to secede over the price of tea in china, we still would have still had the civil war, as it was about secession (power), not slavery.
"do you know how many slaves where thrown overboard? do you know the pain that those mothers and wives in africa suffered when their children and husbands where chained away as slaves?" Slavery then was an atrocity for which there is no excuse. What I dont understand is this continual reliving in the past when currently Unicef estimates 200,000 children in West & Central Africa are sold into slavery every year. If David Wilson wanted to make a difference why didnt he make a movie about this?
My family roots tell me that I have Sioux indian blood running through my veins. If you want to talk about who got a raw deal maybe you would like to discuss my ancestors? But my point is I don't even remotely want to talk about it. I have absolutley no interest in reliving my ancestors past. I have never spent one minute of my life thinking about reparations.
Correction...White Women do benefit from affirmative action and always have. So that is untrue to say that all Whites don't benefit. I find it amazing as to how many people don't know that.
If I personally wasn't alive, and neither was the descendant, money won't solve their problems. For example, white people don't benefit from affirmative action, and other ridiculous quotas imposed by the government. If people stopped complaining and being "politically correct," and actually do something personally to help their situation, then perhaps this country could move forward.
My father, his two sisters and my grandmother spent the last 35 years of their lives researching our family tree. But many of their questions will forever remain unanswered because dozens and dozens of people in our family tree died in the civil war fighting for the union army against slavery. Their families, their lives, their farms, their history wiped out, widows left in poverty and children scattered to foster homes and orphanages. People want reparations? We paid enough already.
news flash!!! the civil war was not about slavery per say. it was about the south wanting to secede from the union because of wanting slavery to continue enslaving blacks. so don't trip--that war was about power. ending slavery was a byproduct. the civil war was directly about secession and indirectly about slavery.
whether you've paid enuf is another argument for another time that is best illustrated by a more direct action by the powers that of the civil war.
I have spent enormous amounts of time on cessation, states rights, civil war, 14th, 15th amendment, Appomattox couthouse, reconstruction ect. Your sarcasm was unnecessary. I simplified a discusson point to a bite size piece. You said: "whether you've paid enuf is another argument for another time." Really? Says who? You? But your issue should be front & center right? Your selective outrage doesnt serve you well. My point was let's stop reliving the past and work together on the future.
thats really crazy, that "plantation" is about 15 miles up the road from where i live
Caswell county is one of the most rural/ most beautiful counties in the state of NC, it has less than 20,000 ppl, and i seriously believe they're just coming out of the 1950's there lol
"I believe you owe me reparations." I believe someone can't owe someone for something their family did. Not to mention the fact that he was never enslaved personally. Or, another alternative would be to go back to Africa and see how fun it is to never have been brought to America.
I saw this man on the channel one student news station this morning. He was amazing. I will say I attend a perdominatly white school and it is sad that the only one who I saw actually seem interested was myself and im part black but mainly cuban.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'll take my reparations in the form of history...and identity over anything else. Our history has not been written truthfully, when the history books show that not only that our ancestors were slave but what they contributed to this country. My heart will be at ease. I can make a great living on my own, as I am doing at this moment.
David, you have the hart of a lion and the soul of an angel. I can see how strong you are just by watching your clips. I would be to overcome with emotions, it would be near to impossible for me to conduct such an interview. Thanks for your profound outlook on life, there is much to be learnt from you. Keep in touch! For some reason I feel sad, and at the same time happy. How inspiring!!
Wow, David thanks for keeping me up-to-date. I am so touched by this I had tears in my eyes. You are amazing, even though I do have my reservations pertaining to meeting a past slave owner, who use to own my family.
I believe we would all like to see where we are from. What a great idea, I commend Mr. Wilson on all of his efforts. I would also like to add that David Wilson(the white version) is a neighbor of mine in North Carolina, nice man.
being from NC and a white male i really must say im interested in seeing this film, i think the research is well done and the film from what i see is well thought out, plus the chance for a slave decendant to meet the slave owner decendant is a story in it self. great work
Too profound! The kind of insight and intellectual curiosity you clearly possess to explore and then embark on a project of this scope and magnitude...mixed with the inextricably bound emotional attachment (while attempting to maintain objectivity) has seemed to result in the kind of work that "COULD" significantly alter the consciousness of many in this country who view it. Best of Luck!
Most African Americans were shipped off as slaves from the West Coast of Africa. Such countries in this region include Nigeria, Angola, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, etc. Africa as a continent although not as a whole is in dire poverty. African Americans have more financial resources than any Black in the world. If Black Americans knew which part of West Africa they came from, they will be ably to help Africa financially.
I think that this is the next step for African Americans. Instead of complaining for reparations based on money, I think our reparation is knowing where we came from and where our roots lie. Money is not going to do anything plus African Americans are the biggest consumers in America.
I agree wholeheartedly. I'll take my reparations in the form of history...and identity OVER anything else. Our history has not been written truthfully, when the history books showS that not only were our ancestors slaves but what they contributed to this country. My heart will be at ease. I can make a great living on my own, as I am doing at this moment.
I think everyone can benefit from the film if the trailer is any indication of the film itself (one would assume so!) Please post the release date as soon as you have it!
Thank you, man! That means a lot to us. We are still plugging away at it. We are in the middle of post production and slotted for completion around the begining of February. Stay tuned!
I just finished viewing your footage. My soul cried tears of happines in all your newly found awareness.Would love to know when this is airing? Please keep us posted.

3) Blacks get less heath care than whites who have the same identical coverage
4) Blacks are the fastest growing group with AIDS

3 Between 100,000 and 150,000 Nepalese women & girls sent in 1995 to India
4 50,000 women & children enter US each year as slaves

"I believe you owe me reparations." I believe someone can't owe someone for something their family did. Not to mention the fact that he was never enslaved personally. Or, another alternative would be to go back to Africa and see how fun it is to never have been brought to America.

How intriguing. I gotta give Mr. Wilson credit, he's a brave and intrepid man.

This is a very amazing documentary. I will definitely be looking forward to watching this. It's a sensitive subject but's it's all raw stuff here.
