  • Blompcube the MIM standard strats are most certainly not made from 6to7 piece's of Alder. The MIM body's are a 3 piece Alder.

  • what happens if you put heaps of gain on? talking about buzzing

  • I own 2 mim and 3 American strats. Two standards and one deluxe. There is no comparison of the mim and American. The Americans have, hand rolled frets, better electronics, better wood, better craftsmanship. Mim strats are great guitars for the money but they are still nowhere close to a MIA guitar

  • Sweet tones. Shame i am skint

  • This was so fucking useful for me !

I was looking so long for this kind of review and not a blues review ..

    thanks alot man !!

  • 0:19 - 0:33

    hell yeah

  • iwhat riff is it u play at 4:33 - 5:00? if it is from a specific song d:

  • I have an American Standard strat, Sunburst w/ Maple fretboard, and I love it to death. It's absolutely amazing feeling, sounding, and looking. Recommended to anybody.

  • Not only a good review, but I like the hat. Go Packers!

  • Learn to play before buying a proffesional guitar.

Your just fucking playing easy things, like my grandmother do!

  • @freakingawzm yous be trollings sir

i can tell by his touch that hes better than that hes just playing easy stuff for the purpose of the review

think before you open your mouth cuz normally stupid shit comes out if u dont

  • It's a very nice guitar you have. I have the same one: Sunburst with maple neck, however. A real keeper. Recommended.

  • I just hate how noisy single coil pickups are, esp. the bridge pickup with overdrive.

  • Hey nice playing! COULD YOU PLEEEAASEE tell me the name of the color? im searching for the name quite long! is it honey blonde?

  • @oOFirefaceOo Come on, he said it in the beginnning of the video! It's Olympic White.

  • @oOFirefaceOo arctic white is the color i think

  • tell me somthing, are you satisfied with that guitar?

  • When you play ,do the different necks( maple and rosewood) make a difference in sound ?

  • i might sell my 2006 60th anniversary one that is olympic white (same color as the on in the vid).

  • I have the exact same model, and I'm playing it right now. It plays and feels great.

  • i 'll get that one

  • Very nice demo on those chords. I love the clean on the neck pickup with the tone knob rolled down to 0-4. It's perfect when you have a Chorus/Angel voice setting.

  • nice sound, I wanna a genuine american Strato!!, what amp or audio device did you use?

  • Hey man nice job, it really helped ;)

Would you make a list of the songs you played?

    Thnx

  • Thanks for taking the time to make such a great demo ! This was very helpful !

  • love the packer hat...go pack!

  • Very nice demo. I have the same model in Blizzard Pearl with a Maple neck. Your demo just goes to prove how big a problem 60 cycle hum is when you turn up the gain. Great for clean sounds though. I've replaced the pickups on mine for Lace Sensors. IMOH they aren't as good as singlecoils, but they're a good compromise when you need clean and high gain sounds.

  • Single coils are weird man, I love the sound of them but they're weird... I had headphones on playing guitar with my ipod and when I went to "cover flow" I could hear the hard drive spinning while it loaded the album covers... its pretty cool try it out if you have an ipod 80/120 gig.

  • Great demo. I've seen a lot of the demos on here use mics as opposed to line-in and all you hear is the acoustic sound of the guitar over the amp. I liked how you went from pup positions with different licks too.

My '08 American Standard is on the way and now I REALLY can't wait. Now if my wife will let me play it for more than 30 min at a time w/o nagging me to do something lol.

  • the 07 highway ones pick ups are hardley dull my friend. the Alnico III pick ups that are in the highway one are simply Brilliant! on of the most tone versatile pick ups ever made!

  • Thx for the help guys, ill look into epiphone guitars, i found a place that sells dean and BC rich guitars today so i might get one of those, ill leave it until i get a chance to try out a epiphone tho, thanks for the help

  • the 2007 highway one sss strat walks all over the new american standard end of story for me.

  • im trying to decide between a fender mexican standard strat or a mexican standard tele, im more into metal than anything else and was wondering what one would be better with distortion, any help would be great thanks

  • If you're into "metal" don't go for fender unless it's a model with humbuckers, not noiseless pickups either. First, How long have you been playing? Second, metal as in Yngwie Malmsteen instrumental shredding or that death metal stuff?

  • Ive been playing seriously for about a year now, on an acoustic guitar, as far as what kind of metal I like all of it lol, Ratm, Pantera, A7x, BFMV, a bit of everything really

  • Yeah. You're probably not gonna appreciate a Fender after awhile just due to your musical preference. An epiphone could be a potential candidate for your first electric guitar, but pretty much anything with a neck and bridge humbucker should do fine. These fenders have single-coils which produce 60-cycle hum (very annoying and with high gain, or distortion, very annoying and loud) and a thinner, less chunky tone. Humbuckers are the way to go with "metal."

  • the 2008 epiphone G-400 SG 62 are all ready compared to the Gibson standard SG'S for the simple fact that epiphone/Gibson high ended the G-400 SG 62 and a few others in 2007 and kept it at a price were everyone could afford a highend guitar. BUT! its not going to last Gibson/epiphone will eaither raise the prices on the G-400 SG 62 or go back to crafting them the way they were befor the 2007 upgrades.

  • the 2008 Epiphone G-400 SG 62

    2 Alnico V Humbuckers

tone loc bridge and stop tail bar

the same one you will find on most

    Gibson SG'S.

Grover 12 to 1 gear ratio machine heads.

2 volume 2 tone the pots are 500k

    neck though mahogony body.

    22 jumbo frets.

the Epiphone G-400 SG 62 is about 75 to 80% Gibson SG. BUT! like i said this will all change one way or the other very soon.

  • and there are plenty of pro guitarist today that own and play the Epiphone G-400 SG 62 SG'S.

  • then go for a japan made jackson dinky

  • the trouble with the deluxe though is that you get the SCN pickups which compared to proper Strat single coils sound relatively characterless. Also once a band gets playing when do you hear that sound anyway the guy refers to at 7.30.

  • at 7:30 that wont happen with the deluxe.

  • i have one but i cant really rely on my strat on bends without it hitting another string , and its easy to break the strings after 2 months of replacing strings so if u go on live before concert or somtin make sure u replace strings a week before it so thier new and uv broke them in

  • the highway one sss strat SHITS all over the new american stand in every way and form get a highway one ss strat and your troubles are over.

  • the 2007 highway one sss strat would eat this american standard alive!

  • it does not. i tried both today.

the HW1 neck sucks compared to the standard. the tone was dull and lifeless compared to the standard. it had no swagger or character to it. spec wise, maybe its good. but the hands and ears told me pretty quickly the HW1 was quite meh

  • the 2007 highway one strats are the most sought after strats today because of its tone versatility and old school strat feel. the highway one strat are for real strat players and not you little boys and girl players of today!

  • if the dull sounding pickups and the mediocre neck for an 'affordable' price are your thing, suit yourself. i'll certainly not be trading in my jackson for a HW1 though, thats for sure..

  • i own a 1995 jackson reverse head stock 22 jumbo frets and i left the humbucker pick ups stock. now my jackson has more than doubled in value since 1995 why? because its a rare crafted jackson that was crafted for a very limited time in korea. i paid $300 for it in 1995 today its valued at $750. my point is my jackson has gone up and hold its value will yours?

my jackson was crafted for less than 2 years by one of the best guitar crafters in the world the koreans. they always have been know

  • part-2

for there brilliant crafmanship and my jackson has been compared to the craftmanskip of the usa jacksons of that time. now with all that said i still like my 2007 highway ones a lot better than any jackson out there. the highway one strat list for $1,130. fender drop the prices on a lot of there strats including the american standard you get a $100 rebate back if you purchase one. also the 2007 highway one sss strat is highly sought after today. simple facts my friend no opinions!

  • well, i have a limitted run RR24. it is one of the first 75 produced, as it has headstock binding and reverse inlays. regardless of its value, i look at it this way; i don't play it, it doesnt suit my needs/tastes anymore. i'm a player, not a collecter, so its gotta hit the road. in any case, i would rather have it than the HW1, based on playability alone.

  • i'm still not understanding why you think the HW1s are in such high demand. they really just seem like discount american strats to me, with fairly mediocre parts. all the american standards i tried pretty much hand the HW1s ass to it, especially the SSS maple fingeboard. is that preference, sure. but the standard vs. HW1 argument seems unreasonable. the HW1 is nowhere near comparable.

  • it there tone versatility/feel and sustain of the 07 highway ones sss strats. the 07 highway one delivers it all from classic rock to hard rock to jazz and blues its simply amazing strat. unlike the 08 american standards were you are stuck in a delta tone period. heres a fact knowing what i know about jimi hendrix and were he was heading as far as differnt styles of music he would for shure own a few highway one sss strats because this is the strat that would help him achive his musical goals.

  • the 07 highway one sss strat are old school style strats with a little bite to them.

the middle pick up is reversed wound with a fender custom shop designed grease bucket circut. none of the modern day bullshit the strats come with today like the S-1 switch and rolled frets like the american standard comes with totaly usless crap to me and most strat players.

the strats of the 50's -60's -70's - 80's - 90's and up into 2000 did not come with this shit. the highway one is brilliant old school!

  • The American Standard Strat doesn't have S-1 Switching. It's just your vintage style Strat.

  • nope, I disagree, tried both

  • its settled. imm getting a strat.

  • tabs for teh riff at 4:16 please or whats taht song called

  • very nice review dude.. and very good demo .sans the technical stuffs .. haha ..nice job!

  • hey nice playing !

  • i don´t like strats an telecaster it´s just like theri american standart ...... 08/15 like :P

  • yep i agree

  • if you can't spell, don't comment. strats rule douche bag!

  • huh??

  • I use this guitar in my grunge rock/post grunge rock band, and it sounds awsome, i rather use it than my Jackson King V.

  • or you could buy the HSS model for the same price

  • Dude honestly, we need it clean, too much effects for a review

  • err watch the video and listen to him? He clearly said there's plenty of reviews showing the clean tones and people playing blues on it. This "review" was intentionally done this way to show what it's like to play more modern rock on the Strat. I don't know why you would expect a bunch from the clean channel when he plainly said he wasn't going to.

  • Knights in white satin?

wish I could hear the dry tone, but to be honest, i have a flanger on my rig right now!

  • whats the best settings for knobs?

  • I would like you so much more if you took off that hat

  • shit pal, would you like him to wear a skirt for you,he's reviewing a guitar, not bloody fashion.

  • Hey how many do you spent in this guitar? i need the price... thanks

  • in toronto, about 1.6 grand with tax :)

    as of right now

  • in america depending on what state your in i think its about 1.2 if you order it online w/ no tax but like i said i think it depends on what state youre in

  • for thoes who havnt played the highway one strat i suggest you do.

    highway one strat

    LIST PRICE - $1,130

    RETAIL PRICE - $900 TO $935

  • american standard strats are nice BUT!

the highway one strat with out any doubt has the american standard beat when it comes to tone versatility and sustain. the highway is brilliant when it comes to hard rock/classic rock/blues and jazz. the american standard is limited when it comes to versatilty the highway one is not.

the highway one is the real deal no extra bells and whistles that the american standard has just a straight up balls to the wall strat.

  • i play most red hot metallica foo fighters

wich guitar should i buy.....this one or the billy corgan strat???

  • good taste in music

  • what do you think of the fender american standards as compared to the highway ones?Have the highway ones lived up to the test?

  • Message sent. Thanks for stopping by!

  • @MrCaribbean I'd like to know the answer to this question too :)

  • @MrCaribbean i have the same question.... highway or this one???

  • @fotillas I solved my question, I would be purchasing the American special Stratocaster AND the Classic player 50's strat. I tried a highway1 and its not for me.

  • @MrCaribbean does the highway one have a thicker neck?

  • @StratPlayer4Life a thicker neck than what strat neck??..the highway ones have a modern C-shape.

  • @MrCaribbean the american standard and american special. Someone told me they have a thicker profile neck

  • @StratPlayer4Life You can go on fender's website and check out the specs of each and compare

  • good review, will post you a message in your inbox

  • you buy a stratocaster and you don't do solos what shit

  • Moral to the story: if you want to play rock, get a HSS Strat.

  • What are the chords for the first lick on your "slightly overdriven" demo?

  • Am - GM - DM - Am

    Thanks for watching.

  • is this the $550 dollar version of standard?

  • No, this is the American Standard. It goes for about twice the price of the Standard.

  • @guitarsnoop the MIM standard strat is crafted just as good as the american standard.

  • @stratdem not really - MIM standard bodies are made from 6-7 strips of poplar or alder glued together. strip the finish down on any MIM standard fender and you'll see all the joints around the edge of the body - the nice looking wood underneath the sunburst finishes is a thin veneer which is applied to the front and back of the body. the american standard bodies are usually made from one or two pieces, which gives them better resonant properties.

  • @Blompcube i have to agree with you on this one.

  • how much does it cost?

  • ı dont know usa price but its 1.200 1.400 dolar in europe

  • thanks

  • what would be better a telecaster or a stratocaster if i was using the guitar in a punk rock band like blink 182, both guitars would be american standard

  • I would prefer the tele for punk. Your taste may vary though. Best way to find out is to play both and compare.

  • if i was starting a punk rock band like blink 182 would this guitar be suited 2 that type of music

  • this is a good video because the important thing is to check out the soud of the guitar, not the play style, good work

  • Sorry I put you to sleep. Hopefully some of the things that bored you were relevant to someone else.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  • What's amp are you using?

  • v-amp directly into the recording interface...so technically, no amp.

  • last dance with mary jane

  • hey I like to play alot of metallica as well as rock, I am currently using a line6 spider 3 150w will this guitar be good for metallica and some other metal as well i've heard it's pretty versatile?

  • the pickups are not hot. I consider it to be a very versatile instrument, but probably not fer extremely high gain music. If you replaced stock pickup(s) with a humbucker, like a seymour duncan hot rails, I think it would be sufficient for your style. But it isn't a common choice for metal.

  • It's good for Iron Maiden that's for sure!

  • GREEN BAY HELL YA!

  • WHat was the song you were playing around 3:52?

  • it is an original song.

  • my nest guitar will be an american strat since gibson is beginning to get really really pricey and fenders american standards stayed on their price for long. Also they play and sound just great and are somewhat more versatile then gibbys.

  • Blues is the real thing dude!

  • I accidentally removed the comment replying to your post, but the poster was dead on. I have nothing against blues, and in fact, really like the blues a great deal. I am simply trying to offer a review that is more tailored to those who play other genres because almost all the videos featuring this guitar are blues. I just wanted to offer something different.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Makes sense

  • i just ordered mine and i cant wait for it to come

  • olympic white or arctic white?

  • olympic

  • Also your tone is shite.

  • What have you got against blues you dick.

  • The sound in the beginning reminds me of zombie (cranberries). Great guitar..

  • iv got one coming to uk from us, so excited, got it for £640 sooooo chuffed

  • Sort of, and sort of. The higher the gain, the more distortion you will have. Generally, distortion is controlled through the amp and/or through pedals, but the guitar makes a difference too. Single coil pickup, the type in a stratocaster, are lower output than humbuckers, the type in a les paul, which means all else equal, they will produce less distortion.

  • Um, is Gain the same thing as distortion?

Also, is it the guitar that distorts the sound or the amp?

  • Cool. One other question. I know that you said that you didn't have a tremelo with it, but do you think I can do stuff live divebombs and stuff like that?

  • Sure, but the stability of tuning will vary from guitar to guitar and you may want locking tuners, etc.

  • It does have a tremolo, I just did not have the tremolo bar in.

And yes, you can play those styles on a strat, which is adaptable to almost any music style, especially is you change out pickups based on what you want it to sound like.

  • Is this good for playing stuff like blink-182, green day, offspring? And also I thought it came with a tremelo?

  • i stick to my ibanez :D

  • I have been an Ibanez man myself for some time. They are excellent guitars. But, it really depends on what kind of music you want to play - to some extent anyway.

  • Totally different style of playability.

I have an Ibanez RG series and I just recently bought one of these 2008 standard strats.

Both are great guitars in their own right.

  • The neck is pretty thin. It has a satin finish (instead of gloss) and is very slick.

  • I WANT ONE !!!! im so fucking bored of my dean razorback, stratocaster own them all the way! how much would i pay for this ? (Canadian Dollars)thank you for answering

  • I'm in the USA and don't know what they go for in Canada - perhaps a Canadian youtuber will see this and reply.

It is $1000 in the US almost anywhere you look, though I have seen it on sale for $800 twice in the last three months or so.

  • ok thank you, it has a nice tone and crunchy sound, hows the neck ? is it thicker than fat strat or thiner ?

  • I paid $1250 canadian for mine.

  • im gettin one for 1100

  • I really like it!
