The practitioner is supposed to wait about 30 seconds till the disinfectant dries first and then stick the needle in. Total fail! :(

I don't blame the Phlebotomist at all. I've been a Phlebotomist for 12 years! With a 16 gauge needle, the pressure of the needle beign pushed into the skin often times will "Purge" the vein into the Anticubical tissues further. In order to access the vein, the Phlebotomist must rotate the needle if this means 180 degress, this means 180 degrees. Often times there will be very faint pressure sensation. It shouldn't hurt. If it hurts, your in the Muscle. Its all at will. Remember that!
she did not let the betadine dry, she re-palpated the site, she (obviously) had no clue where your vein was, she did not gently maneuver she butchered you, why did she change her angle by 180 degrees?she touched the needle and advanced ! her bevel came out of your arm! that is air contaminated. she forgets that there is a very sick person waiting for this unit of blood. she should be concerned with the patient and not her own stats...which probably suck. I would never donate blood there again.

samething happen to me last week also, when a nurse couldnt find my vein...unlike your situation..second nurse came and try to find my vein, double the time of me suffering the pain.

omg that must have stung! the prick doesn't hurt, but sometimes they have to turn the needle a little bit when I'm donating, and it REALLY stings!
