I HAVE HEARD ONLY ONE ROTTEN VERSION OF THIS SONG AND THAT WAS ME SINGING IT IN THE SHOWER EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT GREAT EACH A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT GREAT
richard manuels version is great. he sounds like curtis mayfield but after listening to every one from telly savalas to jacob miller im most impressed by aaron nevilles version.
Amnesty International used this version of the song in one of their first campaigns, in 1968. That was a correct interpretation and use of Bob Dylan's lyrics, I think.
Nice try Tremeloes, but no cigar. If they were giving out awards for the worst rendition of a song, you would win hands down. The Bette Midler version has more soul then this . Nobody tops The Band's
@bikerbobster You must be a hater of sixties' music. I had never even heard of this group until running across this song, and I think they did a pretty darn good rendition of it.
@xyPERSON I love sixties music, it's the music I grew up with. I've never heard the Tremeloes version of Dylan's I shall be released before, but compared to the Bands or Dylan's, it falls short for me. No heart or soul in the music and just too poppie and whitebread for my taste...too each his own.
@sugaree9, djebat88 is correct. But what does it mean to you? It IS about a man doing time, wrongly convicted perhaps, remembering the faces of all the men who put him there (jury, judge, etc). I can relate even though that's not my situation, to me it means feeling trapped. Helpless but not hopeless. Like a caged bird, wings clipped, waiting to fly free. We've all been there.
I see my light come shining from the west unto the east. Any day now...any day now...I shall be be released.
@LizetteBaguette Thanks for replying. I have always thought this song was a paralell to Christs Crucifixtion. The words speak to me this way. The beauty of song lyrics, are in the interpretation to each individual listener. The Tremeloes are my favorite singing this song, their voices are smooth, harmonies are great, and they just do it all kinds of justice.
You tube "I shall be released" and The Band version is the first one you'll see, so I think a lot of people would disagree. Besides the Box Tops and Band version are practically the same only the Band uses a falsetto lead vocal.
Gracias a Dios que los tremeloes cantaron este tema que Dylan compuso pero lo destruyo desafinando como siempre, los amo Tremeloes, descansa en paz Alan, todavia te extra;o
They were big in the late to mid 70's...part of the British Invasion. Love them. Check out some of the other songs - "Silence is Golden", Suddenly You Love Me, Here Comes My Baby (that's one of my favorites). They

Love the Tremeloes, and for them to pull this song off, and be so young is a feat. They are excellent. Especially the young man at 1:40. Amen!

Such a talented band, singing and playing so wonderfully well such a beautiful song.
The Tremeloes belong away up there amongst the very best of the British groups which came made their name in the Sixties.
