I of course was in jail at the time and thinking of my release and the fun that I'll have. And I did and land ed back in jail. Ahh, my misguided youth.

  • I brought this album (Tom Tom Club) into my high school vinyl club. While we were listening to this song our new principal walked in and started dancing and singing along with it. It was one of the best things I have been witness to.

  • I still don't really understand the lyrics. Yet and still, it's one of my ALL TIME favorite songs:)

  • @vivalaminion lol I always wondered about that, too. . . . Thanks for clarifying ;)

  • @vivalaminion I don't see anything strange about that, but I don't understand "oppsamammasaba, oppsamammasaba,oppsamammasaba".

  • @vivalaminion Actually it's for a reason!...Most of the song is if you listen close is about great musicians/performers and how they have all taken things to a new level..."Reggae's expanding with Sly & Robbie"...The extended outro was way ahead of it's time!..Great Track!...Timeless...

  • @leftyla i don't know but i still like artists like drake and lil wayne!!!

  • Maravilhoso.

  • 12.29.11 -- ..1981 was the year I got into Talking Heads; got into them early in 1981. And..was even into David Byrne singing on Robert Fripps' under heavy manners LP (& also MLITBOG). The fall of '81 I saw Adrian Belew live w/King Crimson (awesome, natch). & That fall I purchased TTC's first album..& taped a copy of Jerry Harrisons' The Red & The Black (which came out that year. also good). To date never seen TTC but did see T & C as rhythm section for B-52's. & saw heads in 1984 (TTC there!

  • i can pop dance to this....i am better than the weather guy from that one band video "MGMT" song "KIDS"...lol

  • I didn't hear this until a little later: when they did the Tom Tom Club songs in the movie Stop Making Sense. But it's still an awesome groove.

  • I want a TOM TOM CLUB SHIRT :(

    What happened to this group?

  • LYRICS PLEASE!!!!

  • im 16 years old and i LOVE this <3 :3

  • The year of my birth.... DOPE!!

  • This was like the training-wheels song for C-walking back in the day. But you did in secret, since the lyrics were corny. Mix tapes by the dozens every week from this joint and D.R.E.A.M Team, then Ice-T came out with 6 in the morning and LA started movin' thangs. It wasn't all set trippin' and crack traffic, see?

  • I'm 17 years old, and I love flashback song's *-*

  • aaah tina.

  • first heard this song when stationed in bad hersfeld germany what a blast !!!

  • My one year old LOVES dancing to this haha

  • Comment removed

  • hoe's get chopped?

  • This is my all time favorite song.

  • I like to listen to this when I am smoking my Benson.

  • originalllll tommmmm tommm clubbbbbbb fantastico maravilhaaaa

  • Oh my God I remember sneaking to the clubs in New York when this was out. Beat boys playing it on the corner, djs in the clubs.

  • it was 11 years later that i was born, had to wait all that time to hear this song

  • 30 years old and still FRESH.

  • @monkeysoulpoet Yes, it is!

  • @monkeysoulpoet SOOOOO TRUE!! :)

  • @screeem I am sorry but do you really think Mariah and ODB did this beat first? If so, stop it.

  • mariahs version is better

  • @TheXwatts your nuttier than a fruitcake and a french fry short

of a picknick the joint rules way over mariah mariah borrowed

this sorry for your lack of taste of music

  • @TheStrawbeery haha, u freak...if you think about it, mariahs version dominated the charts, reached number one and sold millions....that means that more people like mariahs version than this.....does that mean that ur saying that everyone else's taste in music is bad?, the more logical thing to say is that seeing as tho ur in the minority of people who like this, then you music taste is bad....dont even question this shit, mariahs covers always do better than the originals because she is better

  • @TheXwatts answer this question who beat is it?

tom tom club. majority of those people was in that time

period. not every generation. even some of the new generation

like this version better wich means your argument is bias to begin with mariah voice might be better but the music itself reigns over mariah's

itom tom club is a real band mariah is just a singer. how can you compare

a singer to a wonderful band like the tom tom club it's rediculious

  • @TheStrawbeery whatever man, more people like mariah, she's better, more successful, writes better songs etc etc...u have ur opinion eventho its wrong

  • @TheXwatts more people in this generation like mariah

your right not the majority. no knock to mariah but for every

mariah you have the old school got 10. but back to the

subject. i don't disagree that mariah is more succesful

i'm not arguing that point. the fact is this version is better

because of the music itself that today music lack

  • i remember when i use roller skate at it was called roller world and this song was for ever but it was a whole lot of fun....

  • One of the best dance songs ever! We had to race to the dance floor when this came on! Wow the song was so long, by the time you were done dancing you had to step outside to cool off!

  • @tmccane1 Yep a good & fun dance song. But back then I could stay on the dance floor for an hour non stop, easy. No aches at all.....those days are kinda over. Boo hoo!!

  • I like it!

  • This is just NASTY and Old Skool folks know what I mean when I say nasty!

  • 8 dislikes.. how absurd

  • if you have a few tens of thousands to drop in the right scanner and you have time to study chromosome shoes =p..

  • damn doesn't look like there's any removing that post

  • lol those mushrooms probably cure cancer and can be cleaned for food to finance solar lunar panels and all kinsd of crazy shit

just a coincidence i'm drawn here

  • This song brings back memories..My dad used to get drunk to this song when i was a kid lol...memories!

  • i thought they were black

  • 30 years ago and its like i am listening to this for the first time all over...except i know all the words, lol. great post!!!

  • Really though. If my feet could just go JAMES BROWN JAMES BROWN, I wouldn't need to think much either.

  • This song is timeless

  • Usually when I go jogging I have this one on repeat! :)

  • I've got rotation!!!!!

  • Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespear deserve a credit here aswell...

  • Did you know the girl that sings this song was in the Talking Heads. (Psycho Killer).

  • @MrMatto1 They both were...

  • way ahead of its time, to think this was in the charts with the likes of Racey and Shaking Stevens lol

  • thumbs up if you think its wierd but fun XD

  • wierd but most fun song evah XD

  • This reminds me of Mariah's song Fantasy

  • @DBCBoy618 She used the beat in the background

  • @DBCBoy618 That is because she sampled this song and stole the lyrics as well.

  • A BLACK CHERRY AFFAIR

  • I can only imagine being in a club late at night in 1981 with this song playing and having a great time. I never lived to see the 80's, but I wish SOOOO MUCH that I lived in the greatest era mankind has seen/will ever see.

  • @SuperSonicTailsEas If you never lived to see the 80's, then how did you write this post.

  • @MrMatto1 I have a mother and father who were 18 and 17 when this song came out. They have told me about their 80's experiences and they were AWESOME

  • This song was ahead of its time when it was released but still sounds fresh and new to this very day! This right here is a true testiment of brilliant song writing and musicianship!

  • hello young idiots. tina weymouth and her husband were in the Talking Heads! Tom Tom Club was their other project. if you dont know, shut up!

  • i wonder if im the only guy who will listen to this song...

  • It was and is a cool tune. At the time, this song stood way out from the others, just like Talking Heads did in '77. Time changes things. . . and Tom Tom Club didn't have nearly the success that they should have. But nonetheless, the song stands up. I know, I was there and it moved me every time!

  • "I remember skating to this at a local rink called U.S.A. the ONLY place to go on fri/sat nights w/ your guys/girls and enjoy the time and dj as well."

  • @RwBguardian USA roller rink on Hicksville Rd, between massapequa and plainview????

  • @UntouchableNYsee - "No, it was USA on greenriver rd in Evansville In :). It was the place to go on fri sat nights as I said before. But sadly it is no more and tht was such a loss for the teens at the time, myself included."

  • Still after 30 years, this song stands the test of big time!

For infinity has no beginning and no end ;)

  • watchu qonna do when yuhh qet out of jail
