  • A great show; I never missed an episode when it was broadcast on PBS station KTEH in the early 90s.

  • One of the best made TV shows ever. Glad the DVD's are out.

  • Best spy show ever and one of the best tv shows in any genre fantastic.

  • You might be interested to know that we couldn't fire the guns in the fuselage with all the extras in there. We fired them in close up when the plane was emptied and they were then cut in in the editing. Learning the Arabic was a bit tricky but a producer from BBC World Service coached me in the correct accent etc. Coo, it was along time ago; my daughter-in-law found it and told me about it. Ray Lonnen was absolutely lovely, unlike the American woman.

  • I don't know who that actress was but I doubt she is a real American - she sometimes broke accent when it came to vowels and the lilt of her speech, as well as her physical mannerisms, were always quite British.

I suppose it's possible she either had one American parent or had once lived in America for a short time.

I think these scenes on the airplane are the only ones where she fully comes off as American.

  • @BigglesWatch

So which character did you play? The chap with the sunglasses? I like the authenticity regarding the use of Arabic, bet the BBC World Service guy was surprised what his language skills could be used for! Great series, where were the aircraft scenes filmed?

  • As the lead hijacker you might be interested to know that we filmed this on an old plane wreck in a snow blizzard. It was incredibly cold and they had to use glycerine for sweat and we had our warm clothes just out of shot to grab as soon as the magic word "cut" was yelled. Electricians wearing Arctic clothing stood on the wings with 10 kilowatt lights in order to give the lighting necessary.

  • Thanks for all this info. People don't often realize how difficult filming is.

Thanks for your work in this great show!

  • one of the more disturbing scenes. but it shows you exactly what kind of garbage terrorists are and how they should be dealt with. they deserve no sympathy at all.

  • erm, it isn't real, you know, it's just a bit of old telly from the 1970's.

  • Yeahhh, I know that, I have the entire series on DVD.

  • What he's trying to tell you is these fictional terrorists are characters in a script written by Ian MackIntosh. It shows you nothing about any real-life individual.

Don't forget, the American revolutionary army were called "terrorists," too and still would be if the colonies had lost the war.

  • which is not to say that I support terrorist (or military) actions against civilians. I do not.

I just see no advantage to thinking of them in other than human terms. Calling them "garbage" simply does not enable us to find solutions to the problem.

While counter-violence against terrorists or terroist states may feel good, it isn't progress.

  • I so wanna see more

  • Oh, you should! Buy or rent the DVD set!

    But two caveats -

    1) Watch the episodes in sequence.

    2) There is very little action of the type we see here. This is a thinking man's spy show.

  • I believe this was from season 2's 'Decision by Committee' episode.

  • yes it is...one of the best....and thats up against some stiff competition among the episodes!

  • i dont remember this episode either...thanks for posting it

  • We so need Willie and Karen today!! Not to mention Neil.

One of the best scenes...although not much tops when Laura Dickens dies (first time I saw that, I didn't see it coming at all. Great stuff!

  • You shouldn't be revealing that - it's selfish.

  • This was a great series! I am glad the DVD's are out because I didn't remember this episode at all. The Sandbaggers did very well in the action department here.

  • Welcome to the Sandbaggers. Not hard to believe if you started reading a newspaper and knew about world events before 2001, or even 1990 (or even 1997, year of Clinton Sex Scandal). Young people should remember - the world was revolving before they started reading a newspaper.
