Republicans were elected to pull the US out of Korea. Republicans were elected to pull the US out of Vietnam. Traditional fiscal conservative values influenced those policies. War is very expensive and the American people knew and know that. The "new" Republicans (from Reagan onward) have largely swept all that Republican precedent away. Spend, spend, and run up the national debt is the new orthodoxy. Barry Goldwater wouldn't recognize today's Republican party on this and many other issues.
Well, you are correct. Still, while I'm sure he wouldn't know what to make of the Republicans after him, it's clear that Reagan was stuck with Tip O'Neal and a Democratically controlled congress that did not allow him to control spending. However, his own military spending would have placed him on the fence as far as being classified a fiscal conservative in the truest sense. Some will and some won't.
With all due respect, Reagan took military spending into the stratosphere ... where America remains with higher military expenditures than the next 10 countries on the list combined. But my point is not about Reagan. It's about how rampant militarism is mutually exclusive from fiscal conservatism. War is really, really, really expensive. Both parties are big spenders now (but don't admit it) and there's nothing remotely fiscally conservative about that to me. The rhetoric and spin mean nothing.

All these great celebrities endorsed for the Republican nominees- yet none of them even managed to get into the general election. Not even Chuck Norris was able to have Mike Huckabee become an official presidential candidate. I will have to admit that I voted for Barack Obama in the primary election because I did not really know who he was at the time and thought he seemed like a really intelligent person- but I later realized he was going to do things that would actually mess up this country.

for all of you people out there... either way, the value of gold and silver will increase under McCain or Obama, so I suggest putting part of your savings/retirement there.
Think about it.... the dow/gold ratio (please research) is 12.2... last week alone is was around 13.1... this means so many ounces of gold can buy one stock of the dow jones.
The peak was 42 oz for one stock in 2001... the bottom trend puts it around 4-5 range... which means gold is a buy till then

Depends on who you ask. I have no idea what we are doing in Iraq at the present time and couldn't give you an answer. As for fiscal conservatism, this has taken several forms. For many, including most republicans, it is avoiding frivolous spending. Military expansion would not fall under this category. Libertarians, on the other hand, would include a reduction of military expansion among the cutbacks on spending.

Republicans were elected to pull the US out of Korea. Republicans were elected to pull the US out of Vietnam. Traditional fiscal conservative values influenced those policies. War is very expensive and the American people knew and know that. The "new" Republicans (from Reagan onward) have largely swept all that Republican precedent away. Spend, spend, and run up the national debt is the new orthodoxy. Barry Goldwater wouldn't recognize today's Republican party on this and many other issues.

Well, you are correct. Still, while I'm sure he wouldn't know what to make of the Republicans after him, it's clear that Reagan was stuck with Tip O'Neal and a Democratically controlled congress that did not allow him to control spending. However, his own military spending would have placed him on the fence as far as being classified a fiscal conservative in the truest sense. Some will and some won't.

With all due respect, Reagan took military spending into the stratosphere ... where America remains with higher military expenditures than the next 10 countries on the list combined. But my point is not about Reagan. It's about how rampant militarism is mutually exclusive from fiscal conservatism. War is really, really, really expensive. Both parties are big spenders now (but don't admit it) and there's nothing remotely fiscally conservative about that to me. The rhetoric and spin mean nothing.
