I dunno if it was here on Youtube or not but i once saw a video of those white ceramic knives either made by victorinox or some italian/japanese company that they literally drop from chest height on a stone floor tip down , it didn't affect anything ... can it be that there are different grades of ceramic ? like there are different knife steels out there ? one being stronger and better than the other ? i really wonder , maybe you know ? btw here in Belgium most kitchens have stone floors ...
Hey Jeff I was wondering if you could suggest a bowie knife for me? It's mainly for labor and I have seen a few cheap ones but don't want to buy something that will break easily. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Love your vids!
plus if you put it in water after chopping the veg, it wont go brown. most veg doesnt anyway. why dont you go read a book before you start commenting your shit.
I turned a cook knife into 1-2 inch box cutting knife in 2 years of service to the kitchen. I wish that I kept the bugger to frame. pretty much OCD on a proper edge. Nice review and keep em coming.
When I was working in a kitchen I had to prep tons of salad materials. The problem was if you prepped too much romaine or iceberg lettuce with a metal knife and it sat there for ove a day then the edges where you cut would turn pink-red. I was told by my chef it was a reaction to the metal in the knife and if you tore the lettuce by hand it wouldn't do that. I wonder if a ceramic knife would help avoid this problem too -? Let me know what you think!
The thing about ceramics: they suffer from a process called fatigue a lot more than metals. That is, they get weakened with every impact as the cracks slowly form and grow. These knives are made of zirconia, which is inherently tougher than harder ceramics like diamond or alumina, but as you probably know, theyre still a lot more brittle than steel
Pretty much how I imagined ceramic knives to be. Thanks for the review. I'm sure you're careful but please watch yourself doing a drop test without shoes.
You're totally right about the average person being totally irresponsible with knives. I've seen people cutting with steel knives on countertops; doesn't matter what material. Stainless steel, marble, whatever. Also Earthenware, is like clay based dishware.
How about a video about Spanish Toothpick and Toothpicks in general - I've started a collection and would appreciate some experienced input. Type of steel to avoid, durability as an EDC, and Spanish Toothpicks in general. I ordered a very nice one from Amazon, it came today and I was very, very impressed. Was wondering if you have any in your collection.
I got my mom a $150 kitchen knife for christmas one year. I have never seen a knife abused so badly. People don't understand that you need to take care of them!
I hate the carbide sharpeners too but had to use one a while ago on my kitchen knives (family abuse them) but then used my fallkniven dc4 to finish them
@pieman6542 Only Jeff is this awesome though, 20 minutes is a little short. And I do believe that nutnfaggy could do much longer and much worse with his flabby lips and over used techno music.
excellent! I have been looking for a ceramic knife to cut lettuce. Cutting lettuce with a metal knife turns the lettuce brown. Thanks for the review. It just reminded me to go out and get the ceramic knife I've wanted for months. :)
@beholderlt No, you would just never purposefully exert force in such a way in your kitchen. Presumably. You're not control of everything 100% of the time.
@SakkyPanda If a video gets a ton of views in a quick time, YT software pauses the video count to make sure it isn't watched by some sort of machine, it pauses at either 301 -306 and then about 1/2 hour later it shows the true count, so you have tuned in during that time. :)
Damn Jeff! You are fucking reading in my mind. Yesterday I saw a TV commercial with basicly a rebranded DX ceramic knife and I was thinking "I really want to see a Jeff's review on one of this DX ceramic knives..."
Jeff, i don't mean to sound like a dick however i will most probably do sound like a dick saying this. Can you stop making such a big deal out of when you say something wrong, it just really annoys me, sorry and I don't mean to put any kind of pressure on you if you will ever read this. Btw, I'm loving all the non knife stuff, if you try to please you audience all your videos would be the same and that's not why I come to your channel.
@Funkis1991 What's the big deal? Just because China is known to use poor materials in order to manufacture things for cheaper doesn't mean that sometimes it creates worth a buy. Besides, it's a company that began in China anyway so it's not like its taking jobs.
I've had steel knives that broke dropping them on tile or concrete. I reckon this is a good knife, and deserves a better review, especially for the money it cost.
Looked good for cutting up fruits. Especially limes and oranges and other small, highly acidic things. You don't have to worry about the acid rusting it up.
i hate when they take my knives and throw them in the sink with all the spoons and forks they don't understand how long it took me to make them as sharp as they are
dropping knives with only socks as protection... not the smartest thing but then again knives arent exactly tennis balls..... good review though as always
If worse came to worse, I would use an old school ceramic knife...also known as a nice piece of flint... Sure, you may get that occasional crunch, or sliced gum, in your bite but the end I can resharpen it, and read the instructions in English.
I don't know why I watch your videos...I'm not into cutlery, zippos,hotsauce.... But damn it I somehow got sucked into watching a review on a product I will never buy...AGAIN. idk why I llike your vids ...but I definitely do. Thank you
I've had one for two years. The blade is a bit chipped now but cuts fine. I still have to be careful of the edge since I've nearly cut a sponge in half while cleaning it due to distractions. That could have been a very nasty cut on my palm. You should probably mention that putting it in the dishwasher isn't a good idea.

EddieCubillo 3 weeks ago
@EddieCubillo Oh god no, please, you sharpen a sword the same as a knife. If it's bad for a knife it's bad for a sword.
Tendrax 3 weeks ago
@Tendrax Well it depends on the sword, Katanas are out of the question but for western style swords it is a pretty good option.
EddieCubillo 3 weeks ago
@EddieCubillo No, it's always bad. The proper edge for a western sword is a convex or apple seed edge.
