I guess unsung made us all go back. I absolutely loved this song when it was out. Now when I look at it It brings back so many good memories! As a man when you look at video, the parts that Barbara sang mean something because you would hope your woman feel that way about you with the passion it looks like she has! Also, now that we know what she was going through, it makes it even that much more special! A classic that will always move me!
Damn I cant believe David was so mean to Barbara you cant tell watchin the videos. But God has changed him and he did ask her for forgivness so thats all that matters.
This song makes an old skeptic like me believe in love for about four minutes...then the high divorce rate slaps me back into reality. Most of us really want to get this "love" concept right but apparently singing a love song is much easier than living it. So sad...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the way you do lol! I'm a definite skeptic...Like you, I believe in love for about the length of this song & that's it! Then the stress of every day life & bad relationships, & the divorce rate being higher than any dividend rate at your local bank changes that! This song was played at my cousin's wedding back in '89, & being 17 then made me look at love so positively, then 23 years later...Well you know what I mean lol!
I don't remember "Atlantic Starr" before Barbera Weathers...or after. Wait a minute ~ I do remember "Masterpeice" but...they had such a long career. Always & Secret Lover were the best songs they ever did. Kudos to Barbara Weatherrs:)
i was only 15 the first time i heard this song and knew this would be my wedding song...and when i met the woman who is now my wife, it turned out it was her song too. NOW IT'S OURS. LOVE U CKR!!!
Yes watched Unsung !!!! A very good show, for myself and i think for many of us it bring's back those day's when we could leap tall buildings in a single bound "at least in our own mind (LOL)
Like my marriage to my wonderful husband of 25 years, this song is 25 years old this year! One of the best love songs ever. "Always" is a song that will forever keep us together. You better ask somebody!
@blackestskyline hmm on that website it said this was the song on top on 8th of June 1987, I guess it's not that accurate...so we're not born on the same day . I'm older than you lol :))
brings me back the good times in the m8id 80's. I was just having fun in elementary school at that time..I meet my first love back then at age 13 and didn't care about the world.
The Afro-Americans did the greatest disservice to bringing the races together by choosing the Rap music, which breeds divisiveness & hate over the sweel loving soul music of years past.;)
@WAGXOXOXO I have too agree. I like some of old school rap. I really don't like much of anything that's out now, that's why I always listen too this r &b jams from years ago.
I'm so glad they played this on the radio and I found it. I remember being little, about 5 and just loving this song, like I felt it it so passionately lol. Now I can appreciate it much better =)
Interesting how you look at a song like this from 1987 and you think "wow, things are going in the right direction" and you watch something from now and wonder where it was all lost.
i always sing this song when im with special classmate... and i was surprised when she sang the girl's turn, we really look rediculous when sang it together
how butiful this song is breathe taking alot of people say u have to be old to like this well no u dnt to no what real music is im 13 and im sitting up here crying. another one of the 80's great love songs thank you momma for exposing me to real music not this sh*t on the radio today thank you for teaching what real love is
I was so little when this song came out! LOL! Everytime I hear it, it brings good memories. Makes me think of our family get togethers for some reason. I can see my aunt, uncle cousins, grandma, great grandparents, my momma and daddy, and my sister, and we're all at my grandma's...and it's thanksgiving....LOL! Such a good song...
Bela música, queria ter vivido nos anos 80 para ter presenciado essas maravilhas! Como o tempo muda e pessoas que gostam de Justin Bieber aparecem para assistir esse vídeo incrível e dar negativo. Como são idiotas.
Oh how I love old school music there is nothing like it. When it comes to love and I mean REAL love I'm afraid my generation (I am 32) and younger haven't the faintest idea of what it is. Dating and really taking the time to get to know one another has become taboo and people care more about how fast they can get each other in the bed more than getting into each others head.
I am a true romantic.... and everytime i hear this song i think of my one and only love. She has brought so much love and happiness to my life I love you 4 ever and alwayz.
i wish i could go to the time where my dad is still a teen, im envious coz he gets to hear song like this while he still in his teenage age while me in this age, hears a lot of whore song that have no meanings at all :(
I love this song, loved it ever since I was 8 (My mum used to play this song all the time). The music we get today isn't the same like the 80s. But I know it this way, that there will be no more rap/hard pop/metal/rock music soon, because we're nearing to the end of the age and all this Music that are not good for the Lord's ears will be completely stopped, the artists won't even remember it, except those songs with a meaning of love, peace, happiness and joy. I can't wait! Looking forward to it
For folks who wonder why we don't have singers like this today, here's my take: we've lost the blues---that sense of pathos, adversity, and hard-won insight that it takes to infuse songs with meaning. This is true for all genres of pop music. I don't dog the kids today for the music they listen to; rather, I put the blame on corporations who put marketing ahead of creativity and turned pop music into freeze-dried, pre-packaged nonsense.
Well said...BUT we shouldn't let the artists off the hook so easy, because big $ recording contracts are gone; with marketing like: youtube, FB Twitter, and especially ITunes; many unsigned artists are making great $ without a contract...SO, artists should stay true to a genuine lyrical "ethic" and make feel good music that all can listen to without curse laden, demeaning, vulgar, bragadocious non-sense that fills the airwaves.
@pinarvarina53 Most rap in the 80s & 90s contained little or no cursing and vulgarity...yet they were still popular and made good $...SO is our music so saturated with this garbage? B/C consumers buy it, go see it, support it etc...its on US too. The "norm" in musical content is now vulgarity...it sells b/c people kids and young adults) support it. Blame society...remember, corporations put out what sells...if people didn't support it, they would go back to the "good stuff"...PEACE
@MrSlojam308 It takes two. Like a tennis game. The so called corporations putting it out on the shelves ...and the oh so eager happy parents BUYING their kids these dang nasty ugga ugga I want your bootay type of music to shut them whining and complaining.
All is not lost with new music. Think of artists like Adele and Taylor Swift. They cleaned up at the American Music Awards this year (2011) because they don't sing about sex, sex and more sex. There are many people out there today who want to listen to music just like we did in the 80's.
this song proves that the world was less raunchy back then. you can listen to the timeline of music and see exactly where the industry went awry. right around the time rap was surfacing in the 80s. im just glad that all this good music is still so easily accessible. we need to share it with the younger generations that think all the new music is as good as it gets
my theory is why should artists make quality music when people are just going to bootleg it and download it or share it. I get frustrated with Prince and his "selfishness" in sharing his music here on this forum but the truth is, genuine musicians aren't too keen on working on their craft just for people to swoop in and profit off of their hard work. So now we're left with this bumble gum....noise and so we have to go back to prior decades to get quality music.
that's so beautiful.......when they say...."and we both know, that our love will grow.....at 2:19, they show the old couple walking together......i LOVE that part....
This is the love song of love song. I remember the wedding I've gone to and would hear this song. Wow the power of the lyric and music is so touching. Still to this day this song bring me happiness.
I know times change, people, technology, personalities ect., but as a 45 yr.old old schooler there is know way on this earth you can tell me that music from the 60's-90's in funk, soul,R&B, & hip-hop has been replaced with the shit they call music today. If you think I'm lying name me the top 5 R&B,SOUL, & HIP-HOP groups today. You can't because they have been phased out to incorporate the Image driven, talentless,no singing,soul-less,money,cars,bling,drank,houses,ect clowns in music today. It's sad
If you don't have "Love" you don't have nothing!! Forget about money or how many women you have slept with or how many dudes you slept with. If you don't love yourself then you damn sure can't love nobody else.
The reason why songs are not made like this anymore because we have become a world where everything is based on looks and not "love" where It should really matter. We are so concerned on how people judge us on the outside and forget about the inside.
We will never have songs like this again until we start knowing that "l.o.v.e" isn't just a four letter word.
Absolutely true. Working in royalties I've gotten to literally see what the trends in music. Pop-corn, lite & snappy is what sells. Like you've pointed out, we've become such a baseless society, that reality and substance is too "heavy" a subject to be enjoyed. I must tell you though, the music of old has staying power and tends to generate more money over time. Today's artist have to make an album almost every year to stay relevant and still they can't touch Stevie Wonder's yearly royalties.lol
ACTUALLY IT STARTS WITH THE PARENTS. THE PARENTS GO OUT AND BUY ALL THE MATERIAL THINGS OR THEY GIVE THE CHILDREN MONEY TO BUY IT. AS ADULTS WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT WE EXPOSE CHILDREN TO.
@2quann -The scariest thing about younger people say 30-32 and younger consider this type of music gay & old. I've heard that many of times. In the last 10-13 years is when it all started to go south. There's a few R&B artist today who are really good but 85% of todays music is total shit, especially rap. The music industry & the government go hand in hand. They don't want to promote peace, unity, love, compassion, people getting alone because it does'nt generate REVENUE. Meaningless bullshit SELLS.
@2quann that all sounds nice in your little fairytale world. Matter of fact is music is changing with people's taste. If someone released a song like this now it wouldn't go very far. Although the genre "French House" is taking samples from songs such as these from the 80's a mixing them into today's modern taste, which is why i love it.
@2quann and we have become so cynical that songs like this are now scoffed at as "cheesy" and sentimental! resl emotion is feared because people cant be real anymore!
One of the neatest and sweetest songs I've never heard:-)

All is not lost with new music. Think of artists like Adele and Taylor Swift. They cleaned up at the American Music Awards this year (2011) because they don't sing about sex, sex and more sex. There are many people out there today who want to listen to music just like we did in the 80's.

When I was a 5 year little boy this song was #1 I was planning on having this be my wedding song and has been my favorite song ever since!

this song proves that the world was less raunchy back then. you can listen to the timeline of music and see exactly where the industry went awry. right around the time rap was surfacing in the 80s. im just glad that all this good music is still so easily accessible. we need to share it with the younger generations that think all the new music is as good as it gets

my theory is why should artists make quality music when people are just going to bootleg it and download it or share it.

Music in the 80's still had a story to tell and passion was in the music. Today all I hear is a bunch of thrown together music to make a quick buck!

@2quann you're exactly right but it's all the TEENS' faults.. looks are all they care about and their choices dictate the music industry today!!

ACTUALLY IT STARTS WITH THE PARENTS. THE PARENTS GO OUT AND BUY ALL THE MATERIAL THINGS OR THEY GIVE THE CHILDREN MONEY TO BUY IT. AS ADULTS WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT WE EXPOSE CHILDREN TO.
TheBrooklynUSA 1 month ago
@TheBrooklynUSA of course, that's a given.. most adults buy their kids whatever they want anyway
starsweet4 1 month ago
ALONG WITH THE LACK OF LOVE THERE IS ALSO AN INCREASE IN MURDER. THE WHOLE DAMN THING IS SAD.
TheBrooklynUSA 1 month ago
@2quann -The scariest thing about younger people say 30-32 and younger consider this type of music gay & old. I've heard that many of times. In the last 10-13 years is when it all started to go south. There's a few R&B artist today who are really good but 85% of todays music is total shit, especially rap. The music industry & the government go hand in hand. They don't want to promote peace, unity, love, compassion, people getting alone because it does'nt generate REVENUE. Meaningless bullshit SELLS.
str8outtatexas1 1 month ago
@2quann that all sounds nice in your little fairytale world. Matter of fact is music is changing with people's taste. If someone released a song like this now it wouldn't go very far. Although the genre "French House" is taking samples from songs such as these from the 80's a mixing them into today's modern taste, which is why i love it.

@2quann and we have become so cynical that songs like this are now scoffed at as "cheesy" and sentimental! resl emotion is feared because people cant be real anymore!
