'pretty clear we vote for labour' BAHAHAHAHA! Why should my hard earned taxes go into the veins of drug dealers on the benefit, why should my taxes keep single mums popping out kids every 3 years so she keeps her DPB, lets get real. This country needs to realise personal responisblity again, labours is not going to bring that!
Imagine the outrage if John Key said, "POoor people can't run the economy. Yet you're allowed to say, "you're a rich self made man, I don't trust you too look after me"
Yes Mary, its true Mr Key DOES know a few things about money trading and I can tell you here and now he WOULDNT have spent more than $500 million of taxpayers money on a bunch of old trains! These trains are very old and need to be replaced at extra expense, as do the ferries! Somehow thanks to Labour its total cost will reach a billion by 2012. Moral of the story is, "now we know for sure we cannot trust Labour"
@ansettnz100 um labour wasnt the one who had to borrow 300 million dollars A FUCKING WEEK WHEN THEY COULD HAVE AVOIDED IT!!!
HAVE YOU FELT THE FUCKING BURDON PUT ON FAMILYS WITH A LOW PAYNG JOB???? I HAVE ITS NOT NICE ONE BIT. i think after three years of national it is pretty clear it is essential we vote for labour
Instead of celebrating their achievements from the last nine years, Labour employed scare-tactics typical of their opposition.
It's sadly ironic, that Labour called this one about "trust" when, by the time the election rolled around, I was actually less convinced I trusted them.
I owe that to a campaign which cost the election for one of New Zealand's finest governments and I'll always be curious as to whose bright idea it was.
I do find it quite ironic that Labour's campaign was focused on 'trust' yet as it turned out "Mary" is actually a childless actress paid by the labour party to pretend to be a mother for this ad. How can you trust someone who is so audacious that they attempt to deceive you in the very advertisements which talk about how trustworthy they are?
@trademestuff Meh, if an increase in GST is adequately offset by a decrease in income taxation as well as a revival of the economy then who gives a shit. I personally prefer to focus on what taxes are being spent on then how much we are being taxed - using tax payer dollar to contribute to Shane Jones' wanking fund doesn't seem too responsible or 'trustworthy' to me.
Ouch, I'm so 'pwned.' Except the income tax cuts do not offset the cost of GST rise and the record inflation to a huge portion of the working population, plus there is no siginificant evidence it will revive the economy and bareks National's campaign promise of being fiscially responsible and have borrowed more hgeavily than any government in the last 30 years.
@trademestuff Show me your economics degree and I will (at least partially) accept your claim as valid. Then feel free to propose an unequivocally superior alternative taxation scheme. Otherwise stop talking about stuff that you lack the capacity to understand. All I know is that unless the solution to our economic woes is to rapidly expand our hotel and adult entertainment industries having Shane Jones jerk off to hotel porn isn't going to help anyone.
I don't have an economics degree yet I am an undergraduate but am studying economics and I don't need to be a genius to look at my own financial situation and find the GST rise even after the tax cuts is going to cost me over $500 a year. An alternative taxation system would have been raising the threshold for the top income tax bracket but I am not currently running for parliament and far be it for me to propose my own taxation system and if you think I have the time and
resources to do so you must be bonkers. I do not claim to understand all of the economic issues of this country and from what you have said coupled with your ever changing argument don't seem to either. If you are ignorant to believe that the misuse of ministeral expenses is the prime reason for the problems in our economy than I won't bother to respond again.
@trademestuff Just because your particular financial situation is not improved by the new taxation scheme doesn't mean that the new scheme isn't better on a large scale. The fact is that any policy change will most likely make someone worse off and to argue that the new policy is crappy because of this is to invoke terrible reasoning. You won't get very far through your degree if you choose to apply such logic. I never said that misuse of ministerial funds is the prime reason for the state of...
@trademestuff what I did say is that it demonstrates an attitude of irresponsibility in the use of taxpayer money as well as untrustworthiness. If your memory lasts longer than 5 seconds you will remember that that is what this little youtube argument started with - a discussion of trust.
Yes I do remeber which is one of the reasons, I oppose John Key he said he will not raise GST and not a single individual will be worse off under the rise. You are right I started the argument on trust, I don't trust John Key but I don't trust Labour either nor would I have voted for them in the last election. So if you can remeber more than 5 seconds, I never endorsed the behaviour of Labour I just don't like people having blind faith in a political party as you seem to with
National. No but you suggested it you said that not a single individual in the labour party could run the economy as well as Bill and use the ministeral expenses as an example and now you have resorted to personal attacks on me while still critizing Labour for their personal attacks, well I guess that is the meaning of irony.
@trademestuff Well maybe if you look back over the argument I myself never actually endorsed national either. I have merely maintained that attacks on the changes on the basis that there is something intrinsically valuable about a 12.5% GST rate better have some decent economic analysis behind them. The main criticisms I have (and have heard made) about the new tax scheme is that they are generally a case of more of the same (i.e. - not really that much different from labour's tax schemes).
@trademestuff I never said the Labour party can't run the economy better than Bill & never criticised it for making personal attacks. I merely refuted your claim that the new tax system is a breach of trust & showed 2 ways Labour has breached trust (you can excuse me for concluding you support Labour seeing as you initially made a comment defending them). Learn to argue properly buddy or else Auckland University of Technology University will kick you out of your business degree pretty quickly.
Just like I'm sure you'll appreciate me assuming you supported National by your repeated defenses of their policies. My initial comment however did no defend Labour either but criticized National. The tax system is a breach of trust in two ways:
1) The claim in an election campaign that there would be no rise in GST
2) The claim that no single New Zealander would be worse off after the tax changes.
and where on earth dof you get the idea that I attend AUT?
John Key: earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from the University of Canterbury in 1981.[3] He has attended management studies courses at Harvard University.
Bill English: gained degrees in commerce and English literature, at the University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington respectively.
It is not the "Qualified" as you put it who have ruined the global economy, but the "greedy", and all the over-borrowing that has been allowed to occur.
He doesn't just know a bit about money-trading, he knows a lot, and is more qualified in economics (Bill English too) than anyone in the Labour party.
So this is yet another foul smear-campaign ad on behalf of labour, with little to no truth in it. I'm glad National won, it will give the Labour party attack dogs something to think about for the next three years.
Shreddakj, Are John and Bill really as qualified as you think..?, isn't it the "Qualified" who have driven the worlds Economy to the state it is, also there is more to running a country than the Economy.
Than anyone in the labour party HAHAHA! Dr Michael Cullen was a university lecture on economics, not a single person in the NZ parliament knew as much about economics as he did.
@trademestuff Yes, this is true. But it didn't stop his Cullen-fund from turning belly up and didn't stop him turning massive surpluses into 10 years of deficits did it? I'm not saying he didn't do anything good though (because he certainly did). Anyway, none of this changes the fact that Labours 2008 campaign relied almost exclusively on personal attacks which is what this whole argument over a year ago was about anyway.
@trademestuff From what I recall, just before the election there were projected deficits for many years to come. That doesn't sound much to me like surpluses.
This video is a lame attempt to copy an Australian Labor Party ad from their 2007 election ("Really Mr Howard?"). Except the catch phrase isn't "You've lost touch Ms Clark, no offence, but you've just been there too long".
Hello to all fellow Labour supporters, I'm normally a Labour supporter but also feel that Labour has lost focus and its time for a change - Its one day out from the election and I'm still undecided.
