  • @ITGuru0111 no it isn't datacenters are aircooled

  • Look this is not a Data Center - It's a hosted rack in a Data Center. I have worked in a Data Center (DC) with about 40,000 boxes. Dells are just ok for those who are interested. Hp and Sun make great boxes but you pay for that.

  • How much time do you need per server?

  • We use a lot of Dells at work, and they have been pretty reliable. Some of them have been running since 2000 and are still reliable.

Though we do have a few HP servers as while, and I find them to be a little nicer than the Dells.

Both make good servers though. Also you can't be comparing Dell's server products with their consumer PC products; two completely different worlds.

  • nice firebox sucirity :)

  • Couple of Watchguards in bed with a 1950! 8oP

  • ill bet that you havnt even layed a hand on a dell server. they are great and reliable. we have them in out school and they havnt failed

  • the only company that makes better servers then dell is hp i think. plus if he hates dell why is he watching this?

  • Damn right, our infrasture is completely Dell and its fantastic.

Most of the call centres for anything these days is based out of India for cost reasons, including many banks, so whats the difference for servers?

Here in the UK we have great support and tech guys available in the country to help us out anytime.

  • Well you cant outsource american jobs. why cant americans work? its those damn republicans that make 20.000.000 a year that dont want us to make 30.000 a year! Go Obama

  • ehhh watchguard yuck!

  • I just bought 2 watchguard core x1250s, what's wrong with them?

  • What are they? Not to sound stupid.

  • Watchguard makes a firewall called the Firebox Core which directly competes with the Cisco ASA/PIX, Smoothwall, etc. I happen to like the fact that it comes with management software, many proxies, IDS, content filtering, etc out of the box.

  • Do you like the 2 that you have?

  • Is the Watchguard easier to configure than a Cisco Pix?

I've heard those Pix firewalls are a monster to config by CLI.

  • You can configure a Firebox with a piece of software that comes with it called Watchguard System Manager, all by GUI. IMO most intuitive firewall config I've ever seen. I can send you some screenshots if needed.

  • roo5ter,

    Sure! That'll be great!

I had some experience with MS ISA Server Firewall. It'll be interesting to compare the differences between it and Watchguard for Admins.

Please send the screenshots any time you'd like.

    Thanks!

  • Get some blades and this would have been 10 second Vid.

  • Why do all servers sound like they are on steroids when they start up?

  • Because the power management and temp monitoring routines have not yet kicked in. So just to be on the safe side the fans start at 100%.

  • O, ok thats good. I always wondered that.

  • It makes sense, since overheated processors and other circuitry components might face meltdown city...

  • You are not kidding. I had it happen before.

  • I see that cabinet everyday! I work at that datacenter : )

  • cool

  • Your Firebox's are read and shiny. LOL!

  • red and shiny, dear God. More coffeeeeee please

  • that looks like alchemy down by lax

  • nice
