@brownpridehomes "You may return to your harpsicord" which you can hear as they are ascending the wall. Lurch is playing some Addams Family music just like he used to do on his old show.
The pose batman and robin are in when lurch opens the window is HILARIOUS which is why I lol'd SO hard when Lurch is like "ooohhh" after batman says that they're doing "official business"
The Bat-Climb cameos are another reason why the Batman series is not out on DVD; most of these were uncredited and unpaid appearances, and I read that because of that, the celebs (or estates/families if they're deceased) would have to be paid royalties. Man, you've got two different companies (20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers) who own Batman, then there's the Batmobile designer, the occasional musical number and these cameos...this show will never be on DVD :(
Instead of Penguin and Marsha, Queen of Diamonds teaming up in a three-part story, it should've been John Astin reprising his role as Riddler. Adding Lurch for the cameo in that story and we would've have a neat little Addams Family crossover :)
@TheLastCurlbender Sorry, they wouldn't let Robin wear pants at the time because tradition kept him in briefs and booties. By the 1980s they were unfashionable and ridiculous, but tradition still forced him to wear them. It wasn't until Robin III in the 1990s that DC finally let him wear leggings and boots, which you can see in the third Batman movie.
So if I dress up as Batman and climb the side of buildings, citizens will just assume I am Batman and let me continue walking up the side of the building, and ignore me breaking into other people's homes?

There is a famous clip from 11/22/63 - Ted Cassidy was working as a staff announcer for a Dallas TV station and broke the news to Metro Dallas citizens about JFK's shooting. Not sure if it's on YouTube but the clip exists; it has one of those "We'll be right back" cards on screen with Ted's voice. Very bizarre piece of recorded history.
@imlaughing2death But the Cybermen still are spooky even today and in color.. which is to say rather ironic since DW came out in '63 and TAF '64, but hey... at least with Cybermen you could use gold to kill them (why did that become redundant now? I have a gold watch I could use as a shield..) and Lurch would kill you (which I doubt since I don't picture him as a violent man, much) on a dime no need to say "You will be deleted!". History for you I suppose.
For those who remember The Incredible Hulk tv series with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, it was Ted Cassidy who did the voice over in the opening credits of each episode telling us the tale of Dr. David Banner.
Recommended to me by YouTube. It's a bit surreal watching this video. I might as well be permanently stoned after watching this randomly selected video.
He was an amazing actor. How he could effectively but subtly emote in the Lurch character is mind boggling. Tragedy he never got recognized for it....
Ted Cassidy was a very underated actor. But he was so tall that he was soon typecast as nogoodniks & eccentric characters. Good thing he had that great deep voice & was able to do a lot of voice-over work. Sadly he died after having open heart surgery in '79 when he was only 47 years old! "Lurch" was lovable & will live forever in the hearts of those who love that irrepresible Adams Family! THANKS for posting this delightful clip! :)
@JubalCalif Ted Cassidy was a great actor as you mentioned, and he was very underrated. He not only did a great job as Lurch, but he also was the second Big Foot on the Six Million Dollar Man. When you watched the Addams Family, you just knew that Lurch was your friend.
Shameless plug for another ABC program, "The Addams Family." Did you hear the harpsichord playing the theme? Priceless! I love it, I loved both programs!
@Cpt50Caliber and the way I see it is that The party would go along spectacularly, Kato and GH would be working security Edward would be painting the party potrait while lurch plays the music, Then jerry would ruin it by singing, Lurch would start strangling jerry GH and Kato would try to subue him while Edward has Charleton heston on standby incase it got worse. Clink would use that to his advantage and steal the hornets weapons. what would you add to this story.
Ironically, Ted Cassidy HATED the stereotype of the tall, silent, sometimes dumb, henchman or butler, whatever. He had harsh words for Richard Kiel as " Jaws ", a Bond villain, for instance.
@knoxvilleguy2 But Lurch was hardly dumb. Yes, he didn't talk much, but he was always extremely competent at everything, and was practically a member of the family.
@gumgumningen No, Solomon Grundy was not in the classic Adam West Batman episodes, but did appear with Adam West as Batman in the gawd awful two parter Challenge of the Superheroes and Roast of the Superheroes.
The unusual situation here is that this "Batman" episode originally aired on December 7, 1966, which is after The Addams Family was canceled (it ran on ABC until Sept. '66). Also "Lurch" is seen on screen for the first time in color. The harpsichord music is great! Makes you yearn for a 3rd season (in Color of course) of "Addams"....
