  • HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! What, I can't have your password?

  • Again, to the lazy whiners on here... I've been at the Honeywell site for 30 seconds and already found some of your answers. Yes you can hook this up with only 2 wires. How about using your lifetime more wisely and instead of nagging the poster of this video for stuff lazy YOU think he left out, how about going to the horse's mouth at Honeywell and looking up the answers yourself. Adopt this behavior in most of your life and you'll do much better, guaranteed.

  • Thx. for the review... well done. As for the few whiners on here saying you missed stuff in your video... how about they use their head and review the manuals at the Honeywell site (man, people have gotten lazy... they don't even need to get off their ass anymore, just go to another site for info). I will review the product myself as I would hope the outdoor sensor can also be hard-wired. Batteries don't perform well during winter months. Thx. again for posting your review.

  • You didn't explain ANYTHING about the wiring setup which is the most important part of installation! You just pulled all the old wires and connected the new to seemingly random locations. Some people have 2 wires, while other have 4,6 or 8... not to mention some points can be jumped.

Anyone wanting product info or menu setup can easily get vids and PDF's direct from Honeywell's "forwardthinking site. So the only people left to watch this are novice installers like myself, who you haven't helped

  • Ummm...IMHO, this shows how NOT to change a thermostat, at least for the amateur. As one is disconnecting EACH old lead, it should be labelled off what terminal it came (R, W, G, Y, etc.) so that there is less chance for error connecting it to the new terminals. just sayin...

  • Dr. Z, could you do a basic wiring & review video for the old Honeywell round mercury thermostats.. I run across a lot of them and the folks don't want to change.

  • @ristin59 I will if I can every find an old Honeywell mercury thermostat.

  • I just received mine from the US... DANG!!!! My heater only gives me two wires!!! No idea if i can connect this... Will need help from an expert.

  • @edgecrush3r If you don't know where to connect the wires then I'd have to say that you should have a qualified tech do the work.

  • You are absolutely right... The prestige is way to expensive to destroy it ;) also we have different electric current over here, so however i am good at electrics.. i am not an expert ;)

  • Hello I have a question will the Prestige Thermostat work with a gas furnace or is it just made for a heat pump?

  • @Nowayout360 Yes, it will work with a gas furnace.

  • @DrZarkloff okay thank you for your help

  • Doc, would I need to purchase two of the prestige thermostats if I have dual zones?

  • @scunningham567 Yes, you'd have to buy one for each zone.

  • Good review, I just finished installing mine and have a couple of issues. The outdoor sensor is not that accurate. The indoor one seems ok but the two should match when they are both indoors and they do not. The outdoor humidity is way off and there is no way to adjust it even though the manual says there is. Also, the fan options are not that flexible. Otherwise, not a bad effort. Could be better though.

  • Doc, help ! I installed mine back in April and today the screen went black. What happened??? I am getting the correct volts to it from unit. Was working fine than black i also replaced it battery still nothing. Is it just dead? Why?

    Thx

  • @jhawkman66 Did you check to be sure that you're getting 24 volts to the thermostat? If you are getting the proper voltage then, as much as I hate to say, it could be defective.

  • @DrZarkloff Well if i did it right than i show 27 volts. Just had new system installed in March. Made sure the wiring would be right for this thermostat. I got it mail order the first week in April. So it lasted on 5 months. Sent email to both Honeywell and reseller. See what happens next. Might have to put back the one i had before i installed this one. Hate to see this one go. Such a cool device to bad the price is so high.

  • Doc,I only have a red a green and white no black coming out of the wall

I can see the corresponding letters on the inside of the Honey prestige block should I connect with power off? On the Edge Thermostat there was a black

and red which plugged into the board and then connected to the base plate the green was wrapped around the other two wires . confused . 2 heat 1 cool Carrier hvac Pete

  • Doc , how does the out door sensor hold up during winter snow and ice ? Did you make that bird house cover ? to protect it ? hope to install mine today. replacing a an edge thermostat TY. cheers Pete

  • @Jdcap26 The outdoor sensor held up great last winter. We don't get any snow here in Northern Florida but it does get plenty cold. I haven't made the bird house yet.

  • @Jdcap26 , Doc a friend of mine installed a 6 wire harness from the Air carrier down and by passed the Edge thermostat reduction wire panel ( took it out) . This Honeywell prestige works great! Thanks Pete

  • Honeywell Employee Shafting Technique # 3:

New employee gets a performance review. She is told that her grade is a 9 and needs to be placed on a PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN, otherwise known as a PIP. She is told that she needs to improve on her "BEHAVIOURS" which is a code word for no matter what you do right 99.99% of the time, your manager will make sure that you do not get a raise because you didn't measure up. This is a Honeywell policy designed to keep US wages low. Way to go Honey!

  • Honeywell Employee Shafting Technique # 2:

New grad accepts job at $35 per hour. Works 40 hours first week and following week gets notified by manager that it is expected to put in 50 hours per week.

Employee puts in extra hours expecting it to show up in paycheck. Guess what? Paycheck only reflects 40 hours! WTF? Employee checks with HR and gets rude awakening: it is Honeywell policy to not pay overtime but CHARGE the customer the overtime ANYWAY!!! Way to go Honey!

  • Honeywell Employee Shafting Technique # 1:

    1. Customer pays for engineer to take 1st class, round trip flight to Belgium. Pays for 1st class hotel and meals. Honeywell books engineer on coach, registers him/her on roach motel and pockets the difference! Way to go!

  • Hi there,

Great video. I am pretty sure this is the unit I want to buy, but before I do I have a quick question. I would like to be able to program the the unit with different temperature for day and night (standard stuff), but have the temperature reading come from the remote unit, not the thermostat base. Otherwise, at night the bedroom will be freezing......Do you know if the unit works this way?

I would think it does but wanted to confirm.

    Thanks again.

    John

  • @johnguerriere Yes, this thermostat will allow you to program the thermostat for day and night temperatures and it will allow you to read the temperature from the remote. All you have to do is press the button on the remote to have it read the temperature where ever the remote happens to be.

  • I saw your video on other Honeywell products, I just sold 3 of the Prestige T-Stat Systems and Humidifiers. I think they are great products and always offer Honeywell to my customers only. Glad they support what you do for your viewers here in youtube land. I guess thats what seperates them from others, they really work with contractors as well and make products that are easy for the customers to use.

    Thanks for sharing

  • @atcherservice1 Honeywell is my personal favorite.

  • hi my name is kari ,l have a question we live in town house my upstairs always nice that where l have my thermostat about 69 without the heat beeing on but downstairs always freezing i have to crunk up the heat 72 sometimes 80 for the heat to turn on but if the oven is on the temperature is 79 that why i have to put the heat on 82 for the heat to turn on what can l do thanks

  • @kamasesa Hello. You've described a very common problem in 2 story houses. Heat rises so the upstairs will always be warmer unless you have your upstairs on a separate zone from your downstairs. You could try the Honeywell Truezone system.

  • Nice video....Could someone also add one to show the different options and settings, such as controlling fan and back up heat, etc.

  • Yes, you can control the fan and you can put the systm in emergency heat was needed.

  • we have now done several redlink zone systems and a half dozen of this paticular kit, customers absolutely love them. Also it can fast load of a flash drive, not that you need it it loads fast

PS your pro6000 is the home depot one not our contractor one.

  • Good info but could edit it to speed things up. The same info could have been presented in half the time.

    Thanks

  • very good and interesting post but how do batteries stand up in Manitoba Canada where it regularly gets minus -40 ? Maybe not a good idea?

  • That's a good question. The Prestige thermostat outdoor sensor uses lithium batteries. Anything less won't last long in any weather.

  • Thank you for posting the video.. you save me $250...!!

  • dr.zarkoff i thank you for your great lessons it will sure help me when i work with my dad in HVAC

  • Cool. THanks for watching.

  • What a great step for t-stats, for the technically inclined(or not), or the enthusiast it looks like a great addition. I think another step would be to have a program you could download from Honeywell that would link to the Prestige through a wireless connection if you have that router set up at home and depending on what technology they employ, long story short it would be neat to be able to control your home heating system right from your pc if you wanted, kind of overkill but look at the stat

  • Good idea. It would be a great sub base option.

  • I just bought one yesterday, but it didn't come up when I installed it. I saw that your old thermostat have around 7 different wires, but mine only has 4, red, white, green and black, No yellow. Can you pls guide me through where this wires will go in the thermostat, especially the black. Thanks

  • Prob won't help you, but other readers may want to know that the Prestige Thermostats require a 5 wrie system, where the 5th wire needs to connected to the COMMON terminal on your furnace. Many thermostats are only connected through a 4 wire system, and thus either a new wire needs to be run, or Honeywell has a type of adapter they sell that makes 4 wire systems work for the Prestige. Hope this helps.

  • wow that is a cool thermostat. what dues it cost?

  • You could buy it at Johnstone Supply for about $450 dollars.

  • well i am happy you used this in my video

  • does this thermostat come with password protection? for kids? right now i'm actually having to use one of those ugly acrylic type lockboxes you see in commercial buildings..i live in a pretty large house with no insulation in the central valley of california actually got a 750$ electric bill this month.

  • Yes it does come with password protection.

  • You need a contractor not a thermostat.

  • One thing i hate about installing thermostats are unscrewing those small screws and shoving those wires into the terminals you think now a days they would make it more easier just to plug in the wires like you would a dvd player to your tv. Especially something as sophisticated as that thermostat..

  • Maybe in a one size fits all kind of world we'll be able to use some sort of plug and play system. Wiring thermostats is something that has to be a custom job. Everyone wants something different.

  • In sweden we are all stuck with the good old bimetal turn a knob thermostats or some knob equipped box inside the district heating cabinet.

  • It sounds like Honeywell should introduce their line of thermostats to the people of Sweden.

  • I have this exact same setup. It is awesome. I run this as my humidistat too. Also, you can bypass the wall mounted stat and have the temp read by the remote. This works well in bedrooms that are too cold in winter and too hot in summer.

Per the install manual, the outdoor air sensor should be powered by Lithium batteries. Looks like Dr. Z used alkaline here.

  • Yeah, lithium batteries is the only way to go in the remote and sensors. I learned that by using the alkaline batteries. One week later, I got a low battery signal. I should have know better. The manual says to use lithium. I'll have to mention this in my follow up video.

  • wowo very Cool DR. Z!

  • The Prestige is seriously the best.

  • Hey Dr. Z I thinks its impotant to know the outdoor temperature sensor should be installed in a shade area. Love the video though never saw this particular Honeywell t-stat this would be excellent for duel fuel on an existing home where running new wires may not be possible or cost effective

  • Thanks. Good advice on putting the outdoor sensor in the shade.

  • how does he know where to put wires

  • I learned how to do this work in HVAC school.

  • impressive indeed especially for those (not me) with the 5000+ sq foot homes

I work the counter for a local hvac distributor and ours there works throughout the large warehouse littered with sheet metal / furnaces and a/cs as well. Honeywell does know how to make a rock solid wireless system. I will recommend this system to all my discerning customers.

  • got mine tonight!!!!! I do agree that it is a pretty stat indeed. I think that this stat was more engineered for the sunbelt vs a cold climate as the humidification logic only works in the heat mode.... I do like the fact that they caved and finally made theirs blue (like my favorite stat 1f951291) and the wireless outdoor sensor is key in retrofit applications. Remote control works well, but falls short of thier 2km distance range claims (tested that this eve when I got her) true steam next

  • WOW! 2km? Half of that would be impressive to me.

  • hello DrZarkloff this is very great thermostat, i need an information that i couldnt found, this thermostat counting only Fahrenheit degree or it can be setup for show Celsius degrees ?

    thank u so much

  • Yes. It can be setup to read Celsius.

  • Comment removed

  • so dr z what did u actually do after u unscrewed the old t-stat? where did u connect the wires? like what color wire goes where?

  • Can the remote still control the thermostat even when you are in another room?

  • Yes.

  • Vision pro 8000, t7600, but more funny looking

  • I always wounder why the Honeywell screwdriver is too big for the terminations on all tstats.

  • Actually, you can get a small t-stat screwdriver. It's really too small to handle. That's why I use my modified pocket screwdriver.

  • At 5:57, since you selected that nobody is home during the day, the T-stat says "Period Cancelled". How far down does the temperature go for the day when it says Period Cancelled? Or does it maintain that 68 degree heat while no one is home? Also, does the t-stat function off of the temperature of the remote control when you are sleeping or in a different room than the t-stat?

  • The tstat will maintain the set point, in my case, all day long until the last person in the house goes to sleep. Then it maintains the sleep set point. I like to set the remote to read the temperature at the remote when I'm in bed. It's real easy to do. Just press the "This Device" button on the remote.

  • my dads the owner !!

  • Cool! The Prestige is a great thermostat. I'll be making a review update on it soon.

  • as always funny a geat to watch me being a student

  • Thanks for viewing.

  • Great review: I have some questions is t-stat easy to read at different angles or do have to in front of it. And is it readable at 10 ft away and how is the screen resolution

  • The screen resolution is great from all angles and if very readable from ten feet away.

  • dr Z Does the outdoor sensor have any function other then temp and humidity , is it used for cycling

  • It's just used as for the display. Sorry, there isn't any way to tie in dampers.

  • Yeah we had a H guy drive through our little puddle of a town a while back. At Local Supply House I'll be scanning the aisle, a call will come in, "Will that H5000 work on a Ruud/Rheem?" Counterperson's response, "Gee Ma$%, I dunno." Click. I think, what the ? He has been here 15 years or so, oh well. I don't think they're interested in educaion out here. :-)

  • Nice demo, where was the H'well demo day you went to? I am up in St. Aug. and would love to go to one.

  • I went to the WOW road tour show in Tampa about four months ago. They had a small one at our local Johnstone Supply a few weeks ago. Maybe you can get yours to hold one.

  • Most people think a thermostat is complicated to install. Thanks again for a great video

  • I have an Amana heat pump.

  • wow coolest thing i've ever seen for a thermostat! and wht brand is your furnace?

  • mr z now you are one of my favorite techs

  • Thanks a bunch.

  • Sweet

  • Thanks. It's the best thermostat that money can buy.

  • Comment removed

  • oh could you speed up that install any

  • thats a beautiful xmas tree ,the thermostat seems cool too

  • What a great product! 5 stars!

  • It's the best. Thanks and Happy New Year.

  • 5 star t-stat 5 star video great job !

  • Thanks and Happy New Year.

  • WOULD YOU HAVE PAID 500 FOR IT?

  • If I had the money, I'd go for it in a heart beat.

  • good

  • Thanks.

  • goog

  • $500!GOOD GOD, NICE THO

  • It's damn great.

  • Shemp! Hehe. I worked for the Big Red H for 12-1/2 years and they never gave me a free stat. Of course, I don't have a split or central AC system so it didn't really bother me. ;-)

  • I never had an a/c until I got married when I was 34. How was it working for Honeywell?

  • I was a systems/application engineer for the Home & Building Controls Division. The training and skills learned were unsurpassed: AutoCad, DDC systems engineering/programming, fire & security systems, field troubleshooting, etc. I got my PE while I was there as well. I still use many of the things I learned there as an engineer for the local electric utility today.

  • They must have cried when you left with all those skills. Though, it's great that you can take those skills anywhere.

  • do i see only one screw in the out side bracket?

    allways use both:)

  • I installed both screws, but only one on camera.

  • ok so now can we see how the remote works with youre sexy hvac wife doing the demo:)

  • good stuff! i wish i could install t-stats that fast!

  • You can now. All you have to do is have the USB stick preprogrammed with all the settings and you'll be in and out in no time.

  • OOOO stanta got you a Honeywell Prestige thermostat

  • I finally got a great thermostat.

  • Where's the snow!?

Looks like a great stat. I would upgrade to it if it had hook up for the HRV/Fresh air damper.

The wireless remote, think you'd guys would use it?

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I live in Florida. We have no snow. This thermostat won't control a fresh air damper, but it will do humidification and dehumidification.

  • love you music. you did not have the power of lol. if i want heat-i turn the heater on. if i want cool-i turn the A/C on. easy

  • My nephew is a musician. He composed and played the music in my videos. You can check him out at his myspace page that I have listed on the side with the description.

  • Your wife is just THE most adorable thing! I can't help but watch the videos with her, several times.

I'm still curious about the installer's set-up and the menu options for heat/oil vs. electric heat/heat pump with the new Prestige T-Stat. Are they similar to the TH6110 and TH8110?

  • Thanks for the compliment. The installers setup is extremely different from any other thermostat. It asks the same questions, but in English instead of code. I didn't include a review of the installers setup for professional reasons.

  • Merry X-mas and thank you for another "easy-to-understand" video.

    K

  • Merry Christmas and thank you.

  • That's a great presentation! ...especially your spinning in circles! You had me rolling on that one.

I have an older Honeywell programmable. Admittedly mine is not nearly as nice as that one, but it still works. With the kind of price we're talking for a new Prestige, it's hard to justify getting a new one (even tho I'd LOVE to have it). Am I missing anything? Is there a real good reason to upgrade?

Thanks for your video...perfect as always!

  • The prestige controls temperature and humidity much like the IAQ. I suppose that I'd buy the prestige over the IAQ if I were wanting to upgrade.

  • nice stat

  • It's the best

  • That thermostat kicks ALL ass! Color touchcreen? Outdoor sensor?? And, a remote control???

I'd prefer a hard-wired outdoor sensor (mounted in a soffit area) to eliminate the need to worry about batteries. That lithium-ion battery at the stat will probably last forever... plus thirty days.

    I didn't see the installer's set-up for gas/oil or electric heat/heat pump system selection.

My old T8601D's keypad has failed. The program runs perfectly. I'm looking for a new one. I want a Prestige!

  • The Prestige is a the prettiest thermostat I've ever seen. I have mixed feelings about the wireless outdoor sensor. It's really convenient to install, yet sort of an inconvenience in the long term.
