  • This has to be who Betty Boop was based off of

  • Wonderful band full of fun! Would anyone have any info on enigmatic George or Jorge Cordoba virtuoso guitarist who played a while in XC's band? There's little info out there on him except recordings Shades of Django and Guitarra Exotica. The wonderful Lina Romay passed away last year. RIP

  • On the Maracas, Catalino Rolon. My dad. He started as percussionist and dancer for Xavier Cugat. Later on he moved on to start his own orchestra then became a promoter. He was the booking agent and talent recruiter for the New York Palladium. He discovered and got many artist started in the business such as Celia Cruz and others. On his last days in the business he produced numerous bands of wish some became real popular and some still playing. Google his name for more info. RIP papi.

  • Correction: He did not discover Celia Cruz. When Celia came to New York she was already a great artist knows all over the world. She started in SONORA MATANCERA in the late 40’s.

    Sincerely

  • @latinosomos You are absolutely right. My dad passed away when I was very young. All I know is bits and pieces of what he used to tell me and of what I find on the internet. I do know he was a talent scout that brought a lot of musicians from cuba to the U.S. but not Celia Cruz. Once she was in NY he became her agent and close friend. He even gave her hand away at her small wedding. I recently visited your channel, thanks for making all this history availble.

    Sincerely

    Cesar Rolon

  • On the Maracas, Catalino Rolon. My dad.

  • ♥ .

  • Lina Romay 1919-2010. She was a wonderful star from the 1940's who could sing and dance brilliantly, and we can see her charm and beauty here in this clip.

  • Gorgeous suit Mr Cugat is sporting.

  • Let's hear it for Xavier Cugat and his orchestra!

  • Incredible!

    Marco

  • I love how Hispanics can say negro without being racist lol

  • @RomansChapter3Verse4 That's because in Spanish, as a Poet said, Negro, or Negrito, means LOVE..^come to the Caribbean, you are most welcome, & you'll see it is True!!!:D

  • @RomansChapter3Verse4 Yes I love how we can say that. I hate having to explain people that it literally means the color "black". It's like, "For the millionth time Fuck off you bleeding heart! I'm not being racist!!!"

    solo queda disfrutarlo. gracias.

  • my grandpa is playing the maraces!!

  • @123cherryrose Your grandpa helped make some sweet @ss music bro! This stuff is so lively and bouncy! I love it.

  • @123cherryrose He must have been the best maraces player in the world to have worked for Cugat. He certainly seems to be enjoying himself.

  • @123cherryrose He's really enjoying doing so, yes? I love watching him.

  • @123cherryrose you are as good a musician as your grand daddy Rosa! you rock!

  • the best version (even if i like this one very much) is Miguelito Valdés' one like eaxh song señor valdés ha cantado he was the best singer of his times tecnica interpretacion color de la voz swing .... i know i'm not objective LOL just one of my prefered with cascarita
  • Thanks, best version of this tune I've found, added to my favorites. Hooray for Cugie!

  • Bellísima. Great music and performance. Thanks for sharing it

  • thank you so much. In your nice little bio you forget to mention that Lina Romay, the singer, was also Cugat's wife.

Wanted to let you know, just in case nobody said it before.

  • @Vengajaleo Cugie was married 5 times. While Cugie wasn't married to Lina, his fifth and last marriage, from 1966-78, was to none other than Charo.

    Tito Rodriguez.

  • The Bongo King, Rogelio Darias, has passed at the age of 93

A native of Santa Clara, Cuba and classified by Leonardo Acosta as "one of the first to play tumbadoras on a stand, with illuminated engineering," was destined to spread the bongó gospel to Las Vegas in the 1960s, when he collaborated extensively with the late piano star Liberace,in Sin City.

Going by way of Hollywood, California and Hawaii with Xavier Cugat and his Show. Rogelio Darias resided in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Thanks for finding this and for the interesting notes. Very enjoyable music. Thank you.

  • esto si se llama una buena voz.

  • anyone have info on his fantastic guitarist George Cordoba? thanks

  • Xavier Cugat, Perez Prado and Beny Moré were the best arrangers of latin music.

  • ....we were dancing with Cugat,in the fivety...thanks.

  • Chevere!

  • Cugat,genial!!!
