@JanisJoplin70sGirl Yeah I was 18 in 1989 and I recall noticing in the years that followed music began going downhill. I hardly bought any new albums from the 90s onwards. Most of my CD collection is 60s, 70s and 80s, a lot of it being from artists where I'd only heard one or two of their tracks but went on to collect everything they'd recorded. And yes, nowadays music is utter shit, apart from the occasional listenable track. And don't get me started on autotune :)
Right if you can put your headphones into you laptop/computer listen for this. At around 57 secs into the song somebody shouts " Get stuffed Kershaw " then Nick makes a kinda two figures sign !!!!!
Right if you can put your headphones into you laptop/computer listen for this. At around 53 secs into the song somebody shouts " Get stuffed Kershaw " then Nick makes a kinda two figures sign !!!!!
i saw him at wembly stadium when i was 14 in live aid 1985. he sang this song and he was awsome. all my twin sister kept on screaming the whole time he was on stage was "NIK I LOVE YOU YOUR SOOO GORGEOUS!!!" it was sooo annoying but as a 38 year old now i can look back and laugh at it awww memories :)
I wish i'd never laid eyes on Lady GaGa. Ohh my eyes my eyes!!! what a silly comment CurlyPubis. How can you say that about such a wonderful singer & song??!!
@eden1963 very very true; there is always a 80's song when you talk about every feeling (a bad or a good feeling but always feelings) 80's lyrics were the most emotional in history and it is always possible to identify a personal feeling in a moment of your life trough one of its songs!
The 80's were the time to be living as a teenager. The music was class and 1000% better than the rubbish nowadays - these people were talented performers
@Bothamslad absolutely agree with ur every single word,, 80s was the best era ,, and when it comes to music, nothing like it, i wish i can turn back the clock and simply go back to the days of 80's
I am 30 ;-) so this music seems to me to be great naturally. I am happy that there are still reasolanble youngsters that understand the value of 80s music. This means that you could easier understand any other values that are not easily recognised amongst many youngsters these days!!!
Funny enough Nik Kershaw had Herman Monsters hair style in the 80's and he strangle moved like him in this TOTP proformance, but I love this song loads and a big fan of Nik Kershaw as well!
25 yrs ago and still remember it. One of the most gutwrenchingly beautiful pop mrock songs ever. Thanks for posting. Nik was marketed as a teen pop idol but he is actually a superbly talented singer composer lyricist musician.
Very interesting - a song in two distinct and very different sections. The first one kind of morose and broody with quite a few sophisticated chord changes -yet low key - suddenly bursting into pop exuberance and a hook line to die for.
I know, the man is a bit of a pop genius. His chord progressions/modulations are seriously tough going but he managed to make it palatable for mainstream ears. Can't believe he's so underrated. I have so much respect for this guy...except trying to cover his songs in a soprano voice is a challenge, transposing all those intricate arrangements and all...I love how the rock guitars thrash away in the background to a pure pop tune too. Not to mention the killer eyebrows!
Anyone figured out Niks "The Riddle" yet?. I didnt know what it was about when it first came out, none the wiser today but its a damm fine song like this one.
it was just jibberish that was jotted down as a guide and they called it the riddle cos nik couldnt think of anything else to put in its bollocks really ''see nik kershaw on i love 1984''
I was 12 years when this came out and had so save money to buy the record. After getting it, I played it to pieces, hehe !!! Awsome and specific 80's sound, brings back fine memories for sure !
Im only 13, but I'd have LOVED to live in the 80s. I wish it was still like the 80s now. All the bright colors, legwarmers, aamzing clothes and the best music you can get :D I just love all 80s music.
The 80s was awesome we were young going to school, riding our bikes and playing football enjoying ourselves without a care in the world. I would love to live in that decade again.
i met Nick when this sonmg first came out, i was trying to buy in on single, everywhere had sold out, i went into a little old record shop and there he was a lovely man
oh i achilly dont like those clothes no no no but love the song =) but the clothes dnt suit him but that was the style in the 80's i guess but GR8 SONG
@laxine87 I agree with you. I was born in 1975 and thank God I was around to enjoy the music of the 1980s. This song was one of them. Love everything about the 1980s: Music, fashion, videos. By the mid t0 late 90s music was manufactured and artifical and since 2000 until now Music is shit. If I had the money I would build a music station where it only played 80s videos, music, bring out favorite artists from the 80s.
Nik kershaw is still making albums today his newest one was you've got to laugh which available from his website, he writes music for other acts now and had written for jason donovan let loose, ronan keating, take that, atomic kitten girls aloud and is the x- factors co-music producer he lives in dunmow essex and has 3 kids he will be 50 on 1st march 2008
I like Nick Kershaw. But if you're on NTL for some reason they omit some songs like 'I won't let the sun go down on me' So much for independent networks!! FASCIST BASTARDS! Too good a song for NTL... that's why they block it! THE FUCKING COMMIES!! FASCIST HITLET FUCKS!!!
