Hi, It is powered by a model airplane glow plug engine. These work on the diesel principle, but use glow plug engine fuel, not real "diesel" fuel or kerosene. In the strictest technical sense, a true diesel engine does not need a glow plug, not even for starting. I have tried a true diesel model airplane engine, but the excess vibration & inability to idle slow makes them unsuitable for this use. It can probably be done, but a more advanced design would be needed. Thanks, Jerry
Hello, Does not overheat. I have the motor / generator specially made. 4 stroke engines are too tall to fit into a 1:32 model. Glad you like it! Thanks, Jerry
I love this! I want to build one, but in O scale and with a marine engine and a little radiator. Yours isn't too noisy. Does it ever overheat? Is the generator just a motor? Did you consider using a 4-stroke engine?
@synthfreakify hi...ive just attempted to build an O gauge 32mm live diesel electric loco.....depending on how many wheels are powered and how real you want it to look, it is actually rather easy....ive hit a few problems along the way but it should be a nice little model when completed
Yes, all wheels are powered. There is a different type of muffler / oil collection system which is much easier to empty. The cooling fan has been modified and is mounted to chassis. I can email you a video of the first one being test run if you send me your direct email address. I will shortly post it on Youtube. Thanks, Jerry
Hi, Yes, the fan is connected directly to the generator output. As you move the throttle up & down, the fan changes speed accordingly. The generator also powers the electric traction motor on the truck, thus it works like a real diesel electric. It also starts the engine. Engine idle is 3000 RPM & maximum 6000 RPM, which gives about a scale speed of 80 MPH. There is an oil collection system that captures the engine oil so no oil ends up on the locomotive and cars behind. Thanks, Jerry
Hello, It's an OS .15 using a ducted fan airplane engine for cooling. The fan sounds like the turbo on the real locomotive. Glad you like it. Jerry Hyde
I was gonna say, that looks like an OS. I fly model airplanes and I like gas better than electric. Electric is convenient but gas sounds and performs better. Check out my latest video. You'll see what I'm working on at the moment.
very nice, one quick thing though, and i'm sure you've thought of it. you've already got a pile of money in it, you should invest in a two channel and a couple servos to make it remote!!!! if you should, keep me posted, like to see it, nice job
Get a Davis Diesel head for that OS so you can run real diesel!!!!!!!

Cool deal. Looks like you need a remote control for the throttle and possibly reversing it.

Hi, Yes, you seen it on ebay. Just type in the Youtube seachbar; "Live Diesel Model Locomotive" & look for the yellow Union Pacific locomotive. Jerry

Is the electric fan motor powered by the train itself?
