Pointing out variations between different hypocephalai has no bearing whatsoever on the fact that Joseph Smith's interpretation was totally unrelated to the object he was supposedly "translating."

I posted in a few variations, "American Antiquities and the Discoveries in the West", 1829-35. Josiah Priest. The 5th ed in 1835 says 25,000. I've owned many editions. It, like View of the Hebrews (and many others) asks was the Garden of Eden here, Noah, etc. It's a 1500AD question. The "anti-Mormon" Abe'Pap' documentaries says Champollion was unknown in 1835. Not So! Priest published over 35 pages of Champollion! So......

I'm sure it's not the drawing variations in the BoftheD text. It's not the glyphs used. or those variations among texts. It's the Interpretation of the glyphs in the text. What do the jars represent. Should a birds head or mans head be on that missing portion. If JS has the only mans head version and his interpretation of the text in general, like the jars, is at variance with 20 yrs of established interpretation, the burden falls on JS/LDS to prove their case.

BYP: I have a question regarding Facsimile #3. The Egyptian text above Isis, and Osiris, and the other figures identifies them as such - why did Joseph mistranslate this text as "King Pharaoh," "Abraham," "Prince Pharaoh," and so forth?

BYP: Every hypocephalus WITH A CENTER FIGURE has four heads. The top of the Facsimile Hypocephalus was not the center figure - and had two heads. This one is also two heads but this hypocephalus does not contain a center figure.

No they do not.. Not all hypocaphali have the central figure. There are always exceptions as I have noted. THe majority of them do, yes. But there is no standard for hypocaphali.

No, it is not.

Like all of the papyrus that Joseph "restored," the only deviations from standard Egyptian texts exist in the damaged or "blank" areas of the original papyrus. Joseph fabricated both the "restored" areas, and the translation. His translation is gibberish, with correct translation of only the most obvious of pictographs.

Apologists will flood you with minutia, while never addressing the significant facts. The JS papyrus are unique only where he had to "fill in the blanks."

How do you know it was destroyed? Do you have the ashes? All the papyrus that was recovered in 1967 were, until then, thought to have been lost in the fire.

It turns out they weren't. So far, the evidence suggests we have no idea how much, if any, of the papyrus was destroyed.

OK. I get the point that hypocephali were sloppily executed, but what does that have to do with making arbitrary restorations? Are you trying to suggest that incorrect restorations are defensible because Egyptians were sloppy in executing their hypocephalus constructions?

Well they certainly do *not* prove Joseph a fraud as critics are pretending. Sloppiness cannot, by any means, be proof that Joseph Smith was a phony prophet. That is simply laughable.

What proves Joseph Smith a fraud is

1-the hieroglyphs that fill in the missing areas appear to be copied from from the panel above and from other unrelated papyrus

2-we know the copied areas are not authentic because

(a)they violate the context of the meaning in the authentic areas, and

(b)the deviations of the JS hypocephalus, from the 100s of other hypocephali, exist ONLY in the "filled in" areas.

If it was authentic, we would see similar deviations THROUGHOUT the figure. We don't.
