Where can I find these recordings? I would love to have these in my collection. This is the foundation we are standing on today. Fantastic. I've heard of Missionary Dranes but never heard her.
Yes, 909kong, the praise at my Holiness Church still sounds raw and almost like "Lamb's Blood." We're a small church in Alabama and when we sing "Another Day's journey" or "Jesus on the Mainline" or "He's Sweet I Know" we still get that sound but slightly more modern. I play the electric piano with a drummer and a young man on electric guitar and when the Spirit hits, the church rocks!
@TSmallsII Sometimes, the church I belonged to in Brooklyn would pull out this kind of music. but when the Old-Timers passed on, all that stopped. Funny thing is, when I went to a Gospelfest concert, I expected at least ONE group to do this. By the way, thank you for realizing I meant "raw" as a compliment!
A big influence on Madame Ernestine B. Washington. Also check out the very powerful Sister Jessie May Hill, another early COGIC star, who began recording in the mid-1920s.
Go head now!Arizona was the first one to be recorded singing the sanctified sounds. She was also a singing Evangelist for the COGIC,there is only a samll number of her recordings because she stopped before the depression era began. This has a lot of history that most singers and the gospel community needs to know about.
Missionary dranes was apart of the cogic as a national evamgelist in the early 20s

I love the line "Jesus knew what I needed most - Filled my soul with the Holy Ghost".

This is way raw. I wonder if the Holiness churches still do this kind of stuff?
