I saw this trailer in theaters like 6 months or more before the movie came out. Call me psychic, but even as a kid, I felt the trailer looked stupid when compared to the first two movies. Of course it didn't prepare me for how awful the final film would really be.
God! I remember that this was the big thing back then! To get a one sheet that still said "Revenge of the Jedi" instead of "Return of the Jedi" . . . I think I got one back then . . . but it wasn't a real one sheet . . . didn't have that kind of cashola back then! I was only 12! I did get Admiral Akbar by mail in Revenge of the Jedi Packaging though! That was cool!
yeah Lucas used alot of the ideas for "revenge of the jedi" in "revenge of the sith" The title being one and in jedi they were suppose to go to the wookie homeplanet and not endor with the ewokes that sotry was suppose to be far more voilent. But Lucas changed his mind and wanted a more family frendly story and fuzzy little toys to sell to the kids. Even thought I did have a chewy stuffed doll I slept with as a kid.
@Texamerican12 Yes I noticed that too. When scenes were first released back in the day, one of the first things I noticed was the green lightsaber. It showed up better against the blue sky in the desert.
@azq76 it makes sense, but ya it would have drove the fan boys nuts, think about it, Jedi not suppose to have emotion or hate etc.... so instead of revenge they just return.
It is genuine as it's from the Laserdisc edition which is an offical release. The reason its rubbish is partly as it's a trailer from a time before the film was finished, partly due to the fact it's old, and as previusly mentioned....it's from a laserdisc.
Interesting! If you watch the shot where the Weequay falls into the Sarlacc, it seems to be a slightly different camera angle than the one that's in the movie... also, Luke isn't even swinging his lightsaber at him when he goes over the side.
i wish they didnt wait so long to make episodes 1 2 and 3 because of the "technology" atleast the acting and story would be better and they can "remaster" it later on like they did 4 5 and 6...
I remember this trailer. It was late 1982 or early 83 I believe. We went to see A New Hope and ESB back to back because they were playing this new trailer between movies.
@Darthnexus78 His lightsaber was supposed to be blue when the film first released, but Lucas made a last second decision to make the saber green because the blue clashed with the Tatooine sky. Fun fact that will win you Jeopardy someday. haha :)
Yeah, so that's why he wore black into Jabba's palace too, and used a Sith-choke on both guards, and eventually DEFEATED his father by using the Dark Side?
@SovereignStatesman lol you feel better now? He didn't use force choke, he just pushed the gamorreans back. Again, the black cloak matches his outfit which was to accept and respect his father. Why the hell would you wear a cloak other than black with a black tunic?
@SovereignStatesman when it comes between luke and anakin wearing black, luke got more patient and matured since after the events of the empire strikes back while anakin on the other hand is slowly turning to the dark side since during the events of episode 2 and 3
@SovereignStatesman ...and luke still wears black after being redeemed to the light side by leia and after becoming a grand master of the new jedi order
@SovereignStatesman Calm down, i also believe in wat lucas actually wrote. i not trying to say EU is better, i'm just helping u out on ur question. that's all

LOL! Lucas asked Paramount to change the title of Star Trek II (The Vengeance of Kahn) because the title was to similar to "Revenge of the Jedi", and then ended up changing the title of Episode six.
Hi Boom. I didn't remember that bit, so listened to it again. He says, an Adventure as vast as theuniverse, though his diction and the sound quailty doesn't help hear it clearly. Still a good trailer after all these years though.
@Shiny317 Ah, I see, haha. Thanks for clearing that up.
I've recently watched Episodes IV-VI for the thousandth time, and was surprised to find that the films were even more IMPRESSIVE than I remembered them being. Especially in terms of special effects, but certainly in other ways as well. But the effects! WOW.
I mean, I absolutely loved Star Wars as a kid, but now? Hate to be a crazy fan, but this stuff is *immaculate*.
No, basically if you watch the laser disc supplementals George Lucas explains the name change. 'Revenge' isn't a Jedi concept or trait, as it's a form of hatred, i.e getting revenge on someone. The Jedi was all but extinct, Luke brought Jedi's back so it was Luke that heralded their 'Return'. The Jedi bounced back or 'Return'ed, they don't seek revenge, that's why they changed the title.. no Star Trek logic behind it.

@PIOSystems I don't know your age, but it ST2 was going to be the movie to see in 1982. Starlog magazine was like the only real source for Sci-fi entertainment back then, as there was no internet and being a sci fi nerd wasn't popular, either. I was in 8th grade back then. The story was going around that Spock was going to die and some nutjob Trekkers were threatening to kidnap Nimoy's daughter as well. What a summer!
@PIOSystems ugcomix dot info/indexes/starlog/scans/sl-59-toc dot jpg Look, a scan of the index page. 1982 was a good summer for movies, and I own ST2.
No, there was never a released version of Jedi where Luke had a blue saber. But that was the original intention until they realized it didn't show up well in the scene where Luke is fighting on the skiff near the Sarlaac pit. As the story involved Luke having just made a new lightsaber for himself, they figured they could simply make it a new colour. The whole idea of Jedi having different-coloured sabers to reflect their personality type etc. was improvised from that moment.
I saw this trailer in theaters like 6 months or more before the movie came out. Call me psychic, but even as a kid, I felt the trailer looked stupid when compared to the first two movies. Of course it didn't prepare me for how awful the final film would really be.
