  • The instructor has a fairly strong "Michigan" or Great Lakes accent. She's really hitting those "o"s an "a"s in that nasaly-whiney way they do there!

    She shouldn't be teaching anyone an accent, because she's definitely not American Standard. How funny. Those people will all sound like a housewife from Detroit. lol

  • It's true. I noticed it as a Michigander. That said, our accent isn't so strange that it shouldn't be taught when English is taught as a second language. Our accent is easily closer to standard American than say a any Southern or East Coast accent. In fact, linguists have found that the accent around Toledo (just south of Detroit) is the most neutral variety of English, period, not just American English.
