Option 1: Stay with the airplane and ride it in to glory. Option 2: Bail out and try to explain to the flight leader why I fucked up SO bad......................Option 3: Blame it on hydraulics failure.
To my knowledge (from my days on the mechanicer school) my teacher tould me that a pilot could eject several times, but do to the huge stress on the spine, the pilot need a medical check every time he does it (if he does it). Being grounded depends on how well his body can resist the compretion of the ejection.
Okay! i get it ....it was expensive stop complaining you don't have to go to every damn video about a jet crashing and point out and say "well it was 30 million dollars and it all went down the drain!" der der der we get it jets are alot of money shit happens!
i don't see why it should of ended his carrer,i know jets are expensive but surely he would of learnt from that, unless he damaged his back or something,he would of been a better pilot after going through all that
Being a crew chief on this jet has nothing to do with the pilot not resetting his Altimeter... If that, Avionics personnel would have been the ones to get shifty-eyed at mostly. Especially since they're the ones that has to deal with that system.
I hope that wasn't Danny's jet, he was crewchief for the Thunderbirds a while back. If anyone reads this that flies with Thunderbirds you'll know who I'm talking about. LOL. Wish the best for all that is in the armed forces and especially the Thunderbirds.
My god, being a f15 crew chief for 4 years i can say what a terrible waste of 25 million dollrs and I feel sorry for the maintainer on that jet, the pilot lived which is grea however he takes that risk to fly, but all those maintaners are fucked unless they can prove its pilot error which in case the pilot loses his career and dream job. I hate seeing crashes like that unless its due to combat where its no ones fault but war
@eLpeach This was pilot error, nothing wrong with the plane. He forgot to set his altimeter to this airport altitude. He is flying a desk in the pentagon, or was. He might be out of the A.F. now.
That wasn't why it crashed. There was an error in the alt of the ground above sea level. They had it as about 100 feet lower then it was. Had they not had this error, the pilot would have flown higher before commencing the roll and then the loop.
what makes you think that means something is wrong there is nothing that proves thats a problem. if there was he isnt dumb enough to keep doing the loop
well actually it was only his 9th crash, and the only reason he did crash was because he had an attitude problem at the airport. He thought that he had enough of an attitude problem and was 200 meters short. After this crash they introduced him to their daughter.
well actually it was only his first crash, and the only reason he did crash was because he had the altitude of the wrong airport. The airprt he was at was something like 200 meters higher above the other airport he had set his controls to. So he thought that he had enough altitude over the ground when actually he was 200 meters short. After this crash they introduced a new ceiling which i think is now 3000 feet?
Everyone seems to think this guy is a pretty slick pilot; nobody is metioning the fact that he forgot to adjust his altimeter for the airbase of this airshow, which is what caused the crash in the first place.
youre right mate, i wouldnt have done any better as im not a trained pilot but he was!! when you get in a jet you do a pre-flight & in that you set the altimeter for the strip youre flying from, he didnt do that.
Why do appreciate seeing people crash and almost die? We just post things on the internet and ignore the fact that the people being injured are ACTUALLY real people! This is sickening
I was there in mt.home that day watching him crash i live in boise idaho. They took forever to take off, is what i remembered but then finally they got the jets in the air and bam. one goes down next thing i know i feel a gust of air. the men on the announcements telling us any videos that recorded this event would have to give the tape for military purposes. I was aout 12 years old. rough shit rough shit.
It was determined the pilot made an error in setting his altimeter before the show, he set his altimeter to ASL (above sea level) instead of AGL (above ground level) the mistake made him think he was actually 1,000 feet higher than he really was and was therefore unable to pull out of the loop, just before the ejection you can see him roll the jet to the left to steer it away from people and equipment on the ground, nerves of steel! he was relieved of duty as a Thunderbird and now flys a desk
The USAF uses rocket-powered ejection seats so powerful you can literally sit on the ground and eject safely. They shoot you clear of the aircraft 300 feet in a quarter of a second. They were developed because we were losing so many pilots to low level ejections during the early part of the Vietnam war.
Wow, he almost made it!! this despite having come up 300 ft short to start off with! And its amazing that he was able to get out of there just in the nick of time. Hats off to the fighting falcon jet pilots of the US.
