She asked, and you consented, for her to make a home for you and your children. Beautiful video but who can understand why a woman would take another woman's name. It's bad enough that it's the tradition for straight marriages, but for gay ones. All those years of feminism so that women could emulate sexist marriages.

Legally sanctioned gay marriages are so new that I suppose there are no traditions to fall back on, and since the situation is same-sex, where is the hierarchy of power in taking a name? I do understand your point JessDTC definitely, but I also admire wanting to commit so much that you would take a part of someone else's identity/history, their name. Without the "hetero" the act seems more romantic (rather than obligatory) somehow.

Tammy took Melissa's last name and in 2006 Tammy legally/officially changed her last name to Etheridge, so she goes by Tammy (Lynn) Etheridge personally and professionally.
