  • Comment removed

  • @rhinohockenberry is it mexican or american??

  • @rhinohockenberry American

  • @Aerosmitty77 because its yellow? i couldnt find a mexican one. so i got a sunburst mim strat. love it lol

  • @rhinohockenberry He said it was American in some older videos. They don't make the yellow anymore. Congrats on the start though! Im looking at the 60s reissues for something close to frusciantes.

  • Sounds a bit like Snow hey oh(bridge)

  • Comment removed

  • More like the verse of 'Murderes' by John Frusiciante's solo album To Record Only Water for Ten Days

  • I watch frusciante videos every day, and he never plays chords the way you are showing to play them.

  • @okamasphere He does in scar tissue, and probably some others

  • @okamasphere so, why are you watching this ?

  • Comment removed

  • lol its sounds like snow at 3:00

  • fru-shian-tay

  • @lucyferrabee Butterscotch something :)

  • @lucyferrabee Butterscotch blonde.

  • im new at the guitar so huh? what? no really your good.

  • froosh chiantie

  • Fruscianee

  • Fru-Shee-On-Tay.

  • im a fan of the telecaster

  • john anthony motherfucking frooooooooshonnnntaaaaayyyyyyy woooohooooooo

  • all your stuff helps me like crazy man...i think you're a real good teacher...keep bringing me some frusciante, young, and how about some alice in chains

  • that d e f#m progression was from snow

  • I usually dont like telecasters but that ones not bad

  • frush auntee..

  • You don't seem excited

  • John FRUSHINEY

  • i really hate you

  • Its called an Octave chord.

  • @BigHairyDog69 how is it an octave chord, if he's just playing the root and 10ths? DICK

  • @MrRickfarmer umadbro?

Mistakes, people make the, it isn't an octave chord.

    The dick was superfluous ;)

  • @BigHairyDog69 no. not really

  • wow i learned all this like two years ago sorry but your not that good at teaching or playing john is famous for reason unlike you cuz he fuckin rocks

  • blackbird by the beatles, scar tissue by RHCP, 4am forever by lostprophets, reckoner by radiohead, belief by john mayer, 300mph torrential outpour blues by the white stripes...and the list goes on

  • i dig it

  • nice classical demonstration

  • Reckoner....

  • Comment removed

  • haha this was good except for that classical guitar bit. Its true, its used a lot but try not to fret buzz your way through it

  • This dude fucking sucks. He should learn how to play before giving lessons.

  • Was it really necessary to black out the middle finger?

  • damn you marty, you have billions of channels here on YouTube. :D

  • I like the tele, but if you're playing frusciante style a strat would be a better choice haha xp

    thanks for the lesson=]

  • @TheArcticMonkeyz John plays a Tele just as much as he plays a Strat. Well maybe not as much, but he does play his Tele a lot.

  • Beattles - Black bird intro chords

  • great, but it would be fantastic with a close up

  • frooshawney

  • you should call that the short bus method.

  • this guy is a jack ass

  • checkout "the traveler" by jason mraz...perfect example of this technique...killer groove!!!

  • damn it its not inspired by the RHCP guitarist but some guy named frushawntea...well still great lesson

  • bit of buzy goin on there dude ! ...... dont yea just hate when that happens...

  • Love your tele !

  • i play better than you.

  • @andstronda lol. You have no clue who marty schwartz is, do you?

  • dave matthews has been doing this for a long time as well in a ton of his older songs but he usually plays it on the E string and the G string instead (think grey street, lie in our graves, #41, tripping billies, two step, dancing nancies, etc...)...

  • @slowhand633 dave matthews is terrible

  • @MrAlfredocolon you fucking faggot... did i even say dave matthews was good ??? and even if i did say that he was good, who the hell wants to hear your retarded opinion ?? go away little boy...

  • @slowhand633 calm down dude. im just saying that dave matthews is terrible.

  • @MrAlfredocolon Dave actually has a lot of really great techniques, that I'll be willing to bet you can't, or couldn't play very easily. He's got some ridicules stretching on quite a bit of his songs, and some effed up timing in verses. Granted, a lot of it is in the style, and if you know that style well it will be easy over time.

To each his own, I think Justin Bieber sucks, but hey, he's in your favorite videos so I guess he's cool right? ;) hahahahahahaahahahahah

  • @99camarosupersport yea but dave mathews is just terrible. and hell yea that asian keyboard player playing over baby made that song better. the chord progression over the ludacris verse that he put into it was amazing.

  • John frooshawnee

  • no

  • this guy has got the best lessons of all, always

  • Good stuff man thx!

  • tight!

  • Reckoner by Radiohead is a good example of this

  • @MyBeardisGood I read somewhere that Thom Yorke was influenced by Frusciante for Reckoner or something along those lines... please don't quote me. The song that Thom Yorke was influenced by is Murderers. They've got those same chords....

  • beautiful sounds there

  • Aren't you the harmonic guy? :P

  • Fruh-shauhn-tay

  • It's Fruss-ski-antee. Well, that's how I say it, anyway.

    Excellent vid btw...

  • hahahah john frooshawnee ^^ lol nice.....

  • Hi!! ....You have nothing to do...? You're just sitting on your computer... procrastinating..,being bored to death? Then why don't you check out my channel and perhaps my frickin' guitar solo?? You should, I know I would!!!!

  • @ElJazz93 SPAM

  • @RedRoosterbabam heck yes

  • хаха Глеб Самойлов))))

  • thats Wet Sand

  • ur a greattt teacher ive been lookin at all ur vids it helps

  • ya its defenitly Fru Shawn Tay Ive heard John say his own name.

  • You're really my favorite teacher on youtube especially because your website isnt all smoke and mirrors but its straightforward and helpful, by the way youre a kick ass player lol

  • @merelyapparent i like justin too

  • try playing the bass note and the high note like, as u were playing two different parts, dont play both in the same times, john frusciante says that he likes to play a bass line and a lead line

  • ew tele :(

  • not a direct response to merely appearent either. he did say he was not downing this dude.

  • whoever knocks this guy is a tool. I like justin also but you dont have to choose this or that. you can watch both or which ever one you like. I just found marty yesterday and love these vids. his mustache friend is cool too. you stupid bastards should be happy that people are willing to take thier time and post this stuff at all. miserable dumb asses.

  • @stndingonthevrge thanx doood u rooool

  • @martyzsongs do you own the channel that this vid is on?

  • LOL lovin' it!! :)

  • you pronounced his name wrong. Also this is not a technique, this is muting the other notes besides the one and the 3rd played an octave higher. Also I can tell you know absolutley nothing about classical music, so why would you mention that? This is hurting the guitarists of the next generation more than helping.

  • @riles6789 get over your superiority complex already. marty's a good teacher. he explains things well, makes it fun to play and is a pretty inspirational cat in his own right. the cool thing about guitar is you don't have to be a trained musician to have fun and make music. don't suck all the fun out of it!

  • @paulygit

Uhh the fact he went up and down a scale sloppily

then called it classical is so wrong, this guy needs to get a real teacher before he's ready to actually do it himself. I dont mean to sound like an ass, but Im a very young player thats had a few teachers and this guy is worse than all of them. I was actually just embarrassed for him to have this up and call it a guitar lesson. So sorry, but your wrong, I dont think im superior, I just know for a fact this guy has no idea.

  • @riles6789 playing guitar is not like being on the basketball team. stop being an asshole and maybe you'll write something someone will want to hear someday, unlike the bullshit you talk on some dudes website

  • To be quite frank riles6789 you sir are a twat. :D

  • @riles6789 douchey douchenstein

  • @martyzsongs

HAH. You're getting haters marty. They always hate on the talented and popular.

    .

Thats why no one hates on me ;)

  • you pronounced his name wrong, and these tehniques are no secret. Mute the other fingers beside the 1 and the 3 played one octave higher.

  • john Frusciai?!?!?!?!?!

    what worng with him?!

  • whats upy guys?!?! ealy upy??

  • the strokes use it nicely in the break for the song reptilia

  • 2note invention is awesome

  • If you'll look to the west there's a cold front moving in over here to the south we have a Bermuda high this could bring some funky weather for your weekend... song title Funky Weather...

  • first, we need telecaster -_-

  • yeah, but he's trying to teach it, so it's probably a bit altered.

  • Fruh Shawn Tay

  • @01Justin010 LOL you noticed it too....

  • Similar technique to the one used in scar tissue then.

  • it sounds better when you play octaves.

  • you spelled hiss name wrooong :(

  • He's just playing 10ths... its not rocket science

  • Anonymous people you don't know mispronouncing a name of a guy you don't know = irrelavant shit. It pisses you off that bad? Really? Go cry about it.

  • Fru-shany?

  • Fru-Sheeahn-TEE and the shee and ahn kinda blur together

  • wow i made hella songs like this and this fool had to go out put it up years later after i made my songs damn

  • i think its a mixture of under the bridge and murders techniques

  • I wasn't saying that John doesn't play like this. I'm saying that while he does play the whole two-note thing, he finger-plays them separately, not doing a full sloppy strum like this guy is doing.

  • he does both pick and strum the two note thing listen to zephyr song. he picks first then strums while muting other strings.

  • Apparently you get pissed off at irrelavent shit. Go cry about it.

  • Why??? Do you think John cares? People make mistakes even John it's not that big of a deal.

  • he said his name wrong. HE SAID HIS NAME WRONG. HE! SAID! HIS! NAME! WRONG! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyy!???????????

  • @jamesbondhere i know he's fucken retarded.teaching somthing about john when he can't even pronounce he fucken name

  • John Frusciante (FruscianTAY) doesnt really play the chords like that. He finger plays them individually instead of doing a full strum. Listen to the song Murderers, its amazing.

  • listen to cant stop!!!!!

  • @CUCCACA fuc cant stop , r u serious , he has way better shit then that, hahaha

  • he strums but blocks out all the other notes sound so only the notes he wants to play are played

  • Scar Tissue is a better example of John using this style. Though "Murderers" is one of my favorite JF songs.

  • he does. he EVEN TALKS ABOUT this technique in one of his videos abd says that you really should learn it. type in 'frusciante guitar lesson' and listen to him talking about it.

  • @ffguru15 He plays them individually on Murderers but live he is a master of muting out strings such as in the song Can't Stop. There is actually another vid where he talks about that style. I'm sure you knew this already.

  • You don't "take" heroin. Dumb ass.

  • FYI don't get me wrong...under the bridge is enough guitar magic to think, "hey maybe if I took some heroin & I could write shit as bad ass as this" ...I'll save you the guess work...yes, absolutely it will. I'm shooting up my way to the top.

"Red streeks on my arms and Calluses on my fingertips" you know that song?..you will, hell yeah yall know whats up. H + Meth= so close to death...the ultimate edge, safe like shaving pubes with a gas tool to trim a hedge. drugs r bad mmmmK.

  • Frough- shawn- tee, tey, timmy who cares... Frusciante is def a great guitarist and I could be talking out of my balloon knot but I don't think as a guitarist he is a legend....like on Rolling Stones new guitar hero's I agree with Mayer and most definitely Trucks, but Frusciante? What about Joe Bonamassa or Philip Sayce. Anyway, this lesson is great like the others posted by this dude as there are some things you may have missed even if you think you know enough to skip one. Tank u fo postin

  • cocaine is a hellova drug.

    and it's fru-scian-TEY not TEE....dumbass :)

  • two note innovations.... lol yeah very easy and cool. helps me improvise when i use them as backing tracks.

  • this is such a useful technique. sounds amazing on a strat pickup set up guitar (Single bridge - Single middle - Single bridge) in position 2 (bridge and middle pick ups) warm and bright. great for final chorus rythym!

  • Frusciante is one of my favorites.

  • This guy really should go easy on the chronic !

Look at those eye bags !!!

And 6 minutes to explain using a root note and its +1 octave harmony.

    But he's cool anyways lol...

  • gotta have that chronic

  • isn't this just the same as the video he put out himself?

  • what's this song ?

  • if you play that first thing he played, but instead you play it 1 whole step up, you'll be playing the bridge from SNOW (HEY OH). So then you'll be playing Emajor, F#major, G#minor, F#major, E#major

  • how'd you get an amp to plug in way the f*** out there?!! you really are a badass!

  • har har.

  • @jimjones992000 funny thing is, this guy is serious..

  • I think this guy is high!!!:D

  • i want a tele!!!

  • Marty, guys like you made make u-tube interesting. Great lesson on a cool technique. Thanks.

  • what kind of guitar is it that?

  • looks kind of like a butterscotch blonde telecaster but i usually see them with black pickguards and this color is lighter than a usual butterscotch

  • telecaster

  • fender telecaster

  • hahah fuck you jk its obviously a telecaster you must be joking... i hope

  • Awesome Dave matthews uses these kinds of chords all the time, tripping billies and grey street are good examples

  • Great lesson, don't spent time play stupid arpeggios, play with emotion and ambition like Frusciante

  • Another great lesson! Thanks Marty!

  • Great lesson Marty - Just bought a new Indie extreme plus guitar so im back and follwoing you again - being guitarless was a nightmare - top lesson!!

  • nice lesson man ,great...
