I remember this was when her voice was really damanged. She cancelled the tour because of 'movie opportunities' but really I think it was because her voice desperatly needed rest for fear of wrecking it totally. I think this was around the time she sang 'Hero' on Oprah around 1998, you could really hear the damage then too!

Just wish she would totally rest up sometimes! Bless her!

@TomCrossleyMusic Yeah when she performed her older songs from 1997 TV show onwards and even today we can all see that her voice just didn't sound the same and for me personally that intrigued and saddned me. With the years passing I kinda got used to it, to her huskier chest voice, to her "overuse" of breathy vocals which probably suited the more hiphop tunes and her wholesome new image ... Yet her whistles remained surprisingly intact.

Yeah, the recording is really bad... it's old school 1998 equip, which was pretty sucky... pitch is lower than it really would have been at the concert.... not to mention, this possibly wasn't one of the first few songs that she sang at that concert... what I would give to be at that concert....

@aussiechic06 I have the WHOLE concert and its not "old school 1998" cause in 98 there was enough quality. You can hear the even older 96 equipments fans used to record her daydream tour in Europe and her voice is awesome. Here the problem is her voice, not the recording.

Uh hello?? She's on tour..she's just tired and hoarse. No one can sing multiple 3-4 hour concerts every day at the top of their voice for months on end... you'd be tired and hoarse too. Even the best singers are human and need rest! She's had many incredible vocal performances after this one, give her a break!

@smooth4hairy2 HELLO!!! Mariah has never sung a 3-4 hour concert every day. She sings a 1 and a half concert a top. She had just a few dates for that "tour". It was like 4 stops in Japan, 1 in Taiwan like 3 in Australia and then after a little extra rest, 1 stop in Hawaii. And she took like 3 days between each date to "rest her voice" so it's not an appropriate defense on her to say that. She's never been a concert girl. Her vocals are so dried. That's what alcohol causes.

@haggis996 That song you are referring to is not a LIVE performance. That's something that her fans (some) have been saying it was. That performance is lipped. If you check the DVD you'll find its the only song that doesn't says recorded live. So, the album version or the promo video Sony did for it with her album version and images of her Hawaii concert is how it'd have sounded. Why didn't they use her live performances of it like in 96 they did with Forever? go figure :)

They even were calling it names on how much she was with all those rappers in the wildest parties they have always been into. What we can really see is that her voice went off and never came back.

@woahhhhwhereami Reason: Tommy Motolla and Sony Music ... the "sing sing sing" from 1990-1996 Marriage period ruined everything ... yet she wanted so badly to proove herself on her own that she ended up almost dragging herself down ...2001's Glitter became the only way for her to rock bottom and take time to re-emerge ... but her voice would remain like this for the years to come. Still I feel she's a great singer regardless the quality loss of her voice.
