Forstester is still AWD. If wheel speed differs between front and rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the wheels with the most traction., not 4x4 !X-Trails LOCK MODE do more, lock mode permanently fix the drive to a 50-50 drive. FIX !, at last do more then AWD, that means do more in mud offroad... YEA YEA forester has some fkin automatic mode switcherstill not 4x4 ! None of these cars are build for hard offroad, at last, and finally, X-Trail have better offroad ability then forester

@dopicitu So what you are saying is that even if the front wheels dont have traction it is a good idea for the engine to waste energy spinning it for no reason rather then sending the power to the wheels that have traction and actually do something? And both of the cars are crossovers not real 4x4s they are ment to handle well on road and off. If people want a 4x4 they would get a LC or patrol.

lets not use words like off road. that subaru has no ground clearance. im not trying to knock them because i do like subaru as a brand, but trust me when i say, i wouldn't do the green trails at most off road parks. not just height, they aren't geared correctly for off road. do they have a low range? nope.

The new base Forester has 8.9" clearance (Turbo Foz about 1" less). The base Liberty isn't even 4wd, & has 7.7" of clearance. The Foz weighs almost 1k lbs less. Stats from their websites.

Off road goes to Jeep, esp modified, but don't dis the Foz, still very capable off road (search youtube), and it kills everywhere else. Low range on some older Foresters, just not in US. Mine has a rally low first gear, but autos are more popular with the off road guys. Oh, and Jeep isn't Nissan, so WTF.

You're trying to get anyone to argue with you about what's better off road. A pathetic need for validation, like that's the only criteria for best car.

I already said Jeep>Subaru offroad,but that's only by your narrow idea of what off road is. Put both cars (Lib & Foz, top or bottom of line) on an off road rally course(yes that's off road too), and you lose.

What are you talking about, rock crawling? If that's your only definition of off road, well ok. Again, take it to a rally venue, and try not to roll over.

Also most people want the clearance for getting through snow, not Jeep trails, not that the Forester can't handle Jeep trails better then just about anything that wasn't specifically designed for off roading.

whats gay is a subaru sack surfer that thinks a forester has any off road abilities. when people get on here and bull shit, i set them straight. and im not a fan boy. a 2009 explorer would crash your forest-rider off road. whats the ground clearance on that? like 4 inches. subarus are only good on road. they MANAGE at best in sand, puddles (not man enough for water features), dirt, and 2 inches or less of "MUD". dont put a rock in its way either. what kind of skids does it come with? none?

More ground clearance than explorer, around 9" vs 8.5" in explorer. Explorer isnt that much bigger inside than a small forester, and thats pathetic like you. Considering how big it is on the outside. Not to mention, Explorer is worthless after you buy it. Value drops at freefall speed. Hahaha. Explorer, what a joke.

Forester has more power, but weighs 1500lbs less.

well the jeep liberty wasnt designed for off roading. or the 2005+ grand cherokee. or the commander. they seem to do quite well tho. and what about the new range rovers? im not talking about crawling. how much water can a forester clear? lets talk about that name for a sec. forest-er. like a forest floor with small plants and leaves. maybe a stick or 2. and i would smoke your forester in a rally setting. in 2wd. its the driver not the car.

Why can't the US get the X-tail? The Rogue is very nice but this thing looks awesome and would compete very nicely with the VW Tiguan. Both offer diesels engines too.

It looks way softer than before. Last gen Forester more macho. But it's based on the new Imprezza chassis. So changes to it is inevitable.

Nissan X-trail looks more like a facelift model? I am glad that N.A. gets the Rogue instead of the new X-trail.

man i dont know why subaru did this, but on every 2008 model, they changed the headlamps to like fat on the edges, and skinny going through the inside! it sux, doesnt look new!
