Wait...Anthony Delongis. He was definitely the swordmaster on the deadliest warrior for the Shaka Zulu vs William Wallace...Why do Shaka's guys feel bad about losing to someone represented by this guy...He's a friggen beast.
i've met Anthony at a Cold Steel Sale and tournament, this guy knows his shit. he knows pretty much all martial arts, fighting with weapons like the sjambok, sarong and many others. He is definitely one of the best swordsmen i've have ever seen. and he is by far the best knife thrower i've ever seen. so yeah not the you would want to mess with lol :)
I have used the rolling style with a 6-ft Australian bullwhip and with a 4-ft signal whip. If your whip is new and a bit stiff, it might take some work to get the fluidity you need.
@DrMaryG I've been cracking a whip now for almost 8 years, and I have Anthony's "Mastering the Bullwhip" DVDs. They're awesome, and I have learned some really insightful things from it. However, I've been wanting for YEARS to be able to train with him in person. I'm strongly considering moving out to Cali to train in stuntwork. How often does Anthony train students Mary? Does he do it year round?
The thing is I live in and from the UK. I know I'm asking a lot and this could but impossible but if he could teach me a few things. like the english and spanish act of fencing, whip cracking and knife throwing... I would be most grateful. I'm sure he won't be able to come to me, but if he could make some more videos to put on YouTube or send me some DVDs or something then, I would like that.
I want to do fight training and choreography for the film business, as well as acting, so training with Anthony would be a dream come true for me. I have his Mastering the Bullwhip videos and his technique is very unique because of it's effortlessness. He seems like a very nice guy from his video. I need to move out of this shitty state of CT someday though. I've done some martial arts before but have been out for a while. I'd like to do Savate and a weapons based system.
I'm also interested in training in Escrima, because it focuses on other weapons too, and it would go well with whipcracking in terms of helping to understand the intricacies. I like the content in this clip, but those martial arts style entanglements wouldn't work on a fully committed opponent, at least not with punches. It would be great on film though. For close quarters a short whip is best for its speed.

Yes, Anthony trained Scott, who was stunt coordinator on Underworld. In fact, the modified "chambered hands" technique used by Scott was developed by Anthony for the film "The Feminine Touch" (the footage that follows the "Underworld" clip) back in 1994.
why does it show scott mcelroy from underworld, anthony de longis had nothing to do with that movie, the whipmaster on underworld was scott mcelroy himself who also played soren
@16517 Anthony trained Scott McElroy and taught him the chambered hands whip movement. Anthony first used that in The November Conspiracy, where he met Scott and started to teach him.
Anthony was Scott's instructor and taught him the chambered hands whip movement used in Underworld. Anthony first used that move in a film called The November Conspiracy, where he first met Scott, who was coordinating the film
I'd recommend an 8' 12 ply whip from Australian Stock and Saddle Company, with the "deLongis" handle. Ask to speak to Colin. It will run you about $450.
Google search 'Mick's Whips' he is located in Darwin, Australia and exports a lot to overseas. He's won many awards for his stock whips, and they're WAY cheaper than 450. I'm getting a roo leather 7 ft 6 plait with half cane handle for 155.
If you'd prefer a bull whip Google Em Brand Whips and order from him.
em brand whips are amazing, though I don't own one, they do handle like a dream. For an excellent quality bullwhip, get a synthetic from karaka whips, my 9 footer cost me $135 to my door, an 8-footer is the same price, a 6 footer is somewhat less expensive.
A beginner can also use an 8 plait whip as well, it will be cheaper for you as well. It may take a little longer to break in, but 8 feet is also a good idea. 6 feet would be easier, but try 8.
the finer the plaiting, the more responsive and better a whip will be at focusing energy. You're right about cheaper, which is good if a person is not sure if he/she will actually spend time with it. If you are sure you want to commit to learning, however, you will have to put more muscle into using the 8 plait, and that often means beating up both the whip and yourself. We have a friend with a bad shoulder because he overworked with a coarser whip.If you're committed, don't go cheap.
What does Anthony prefer when it comes to whips? I notice in some of the videos he uses a whip with two white or silver bands on the handle. Very sharp!
Anthony prefers a long handle -- usually 14" -- to allow him to work both on the ground and on horseback. He actually uses mylar tape to mark the whips according to length; one band usually is 7' of plait and 2 is 8' of plait.
Whip.. most underrated weapon. Well a tool used as a weapon :P Breaking the speed of sound FTW

Most influential whipmaster of the late 20th century in regards to body mechanics and understanding the need for fluidity in whip work.
