Hmmm an American band that comes to mind is Radiohead. Both bands took very similar paths in terms of musical sound. They started off with a rock sound but soon went into some some heavy experimental music. I think Supercar was a little more successful though.
I've found Amazon to be the best for getting soundtracks. Their prices can be kinda high especially for imports, but the legitimate merchant sellers have great prices. You just have to check out their ratings and history to make sure their a trustworthy seller, but definitely worth it. I got both of the Eureka OSTs and the 1st Bleach OST that way.

I wouldn't say more successful. Supercar still isn't as well-knwown as they deserve to be. Radiohead is well.....revolutionary.
