That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard for a car. People who need a baby-sitter like this in order to stay in their lane, should not be behind the wheel.
@ATGT5 So what if Radar Cruise came from the Mercedes S Class? Just about all major brands have it now. The point is that my Lexus had it, and together with the Lane Keep Assist, it made long journeys much more relaxed. If all the other brands introduce Lane Keep Assist on their cars, good for them - let their drivers enjoy the feature. And what does "to late for lexus" mean anyway? That's just dumb.
@ATGT5 ANd lane departure was copied from Infinity...what is your point?!! Sure S class pioneered many things, but when held up to its higher price and lower reliability and often features, its not worth it!!
do you know that I had my uncle 09 ls 460h return to the dealership cause he wasn't trusting that car
I drove it all features were working fine but he was taking control while using LKA but enforcing power to the steering and he was touching the steering while auto park which will deactivate the feature
every feature on this car needs you to trust it so if you dont it will not work and you will feel that the car is not working properly
what happens if you need to perform an evasive maneuver. like swerving to miss a child or log or truck, will you swerve out of the lane and the car will just shove you back into it, just in time for you to plough right into that something?
The system will try to steer you back into your original lane as you cross the white lines, but the steering force generated by the system is much less than you can exert yourself to override it. In any case, the Lexus collision avoidance systems will probably kick in, auto-braking, stiffening the suspension, and increasing steering ratio. It's not something I ever hope to have to use though :-)
It senses the tiny adjustments you make to the wheel. It actually works handsfree for about 5 seconds before deactivating. I'm sure there's a way to hack it, but I wouldn't try.
Unfortunately the LKA system is not available on the LS600 because that car has LED headlights instead of the Xenon ones from the LS460. These Xenon lights also include near infrared high beams which are always on and which provide extra illumination for the stereo camera which controls the LKA.

@ATGT5 Sorry to disturb your happiness, but Lexus had infrared laser-based adaptive cruise control on 2000 LS430.

@huasi87 Too true, you have to trust the systems to get the full benefit. When I first used them I was nervous but they never let me down.

it does both

can we reverse ourselves
djrempit99999 2 years ago
yes we can. Though the car can do it too, but it's only useful for showing off (which is as good a reason as any to own an expensive car)

now thats nice you have an excellent car.

How does it know if you have your hands on the wheel or not? Is there any way to get around it so you can drive with no hands?

This is absolutely great. As well as the automated parking, and all the other features..
If I once come across a LS460 or LS600, I must see this in action :)
The recent Darpa Unmanned car challenges show that this is going to be the future. Amazing that Lexus is already making this available now.

now we just need a crack or hack that enables us to drive free hand without the system going off and effectively put it on autopilot

It basically drives itself! Amazing car indeed. I would buy this car if I have the money.

I know from the video it doesn't look like the wheel was turning much during LKA operation - it's very subtle.
I promise I wasn't turning it myself during LKA operation :-)
