  • Great marching lads, from a member of the Naval Service Reserve (Ireland).

  • the Royal Marines band is better than when they do the orchesteral version

  • Well done.

Come cheer up me lads to the tavern we steer..... The unofficial verse

  • I maybe welsh, but the hairs on my neck are standing to attention.

  • Excellence

  • All in the video are volunteer reservists. The Guard spent 9 days being trained by the best Ceremonial Training Team the Royal Navy had.

And it shows, that dressing, the arms, the orders, everything was immaculate. Perfect.

  • Happy days, spent two weeks at Browndown being beasted by CPO "Blood" Reid as part of the Royal Guard and loved every minute. One month after this I was mobilised for Op Telic with most of the Guard ( could see Fran Stoffel, Sid Little (guard PO), Bob Webster ( Colour Chief ) and spent 10 months away getting a sun tan. They promoted 3 of us to PO'S as they were short of Senior rates and I met Blood Reid in the bar in Excellent and he said how shit hot the guard was for trooping the colour.

  • good, but some of the ruperts need to sort out the "sloppy" drill there. but a good parade and guard in all

  • Are there any of my oppos from HMS Sherwood in this parade?

  • These boys are splendid. The navy does not march well by tradition; but these fellows do. I was an infantry RSM and speak from experience. I would be proud of them! deinitely. Hearts of Oak! Steady boys steady! Wonderful stuff!

  • May I speak as an ex Infantry RSM. WE have never fought a war nor won one without reserve forces, these boys here are a credit. Hearts of Oak! Steady boys steady, quite brilliant!

  • steady boy steady!!:) Im going for tg2 band

  • Thats me! far corner 2nd platoon 14th white cap second row back (the short one)..It was a good session in the bar after aswell..although I did need the loo a lot on the coach home..AHH HAPPY DAYS

  • dooin a good job on keepin their dressing lookin sharp boys

  • cpo(in what was sona,r lol) .they changed the badges....did the field gun earls court when andy got married (he's a tart)....sm2...money and politics killed us :(...but we live on!! RN

  • My mother served in the RNR on HMS Caroline.

  • Love it, beautiful, love the song, kind of cut it of at the end though......

  • Yup, the RSM was right - top-notch drill, impeccable turn-out. Puts some Regulars to shame. First time I have seen the Navy sword-salute (or I had forgotten the difference). Now THAT is the way to salute with a sword!

  • Roll along Wavey Navy, Roll along.

'twill always be the wavey navy for we old farts, and it will always be said with admiration.

  • i just joined rnr month ago love every moment of it proud of what im in

  • You can see the PRIDE in the RNR - unpaid volunteers, same as the TA - who give up their spare time to be readily called to serve the country. I can certainly say that there are very few full time RN Service personnel who can match the RNR should they be put on parade. Most don't give a damn and couldn't care less about pride, honour and tradition.

Me? ex RN Senior Rate (24 yr service, 84-07)

  • Don't want to degenerate this into a "them" and "us" debate - we're more aligned now than we've ever been.

However, we do get paid as RNR - the same daily rate as the RN.

Me?? Mobilised reservist of 12 years, off to somewhere warm and sunny with the Andrew for the next 6 months.

  • Just addin that obviously I'm having to put my civvie career on hold while I do this, but in this economic climate, am quite pleased to!!

  • @RoyalGuardOfHonour how do you join?

  • @allgoonersaregay Pop into any careers office or contact your local unit directly. Details from the RN website..

  • @markd3107 Good for you Sir. And your pride!

  • wavie navy is good just think how the regs do it

  • Hasn't been the wavey navy for donkeys shippers - which decade do you hail from?

  • Wavy Navy is relegated to SCC Officers now. If it's wavy, don't salute it!

  • i'm crusader

  • I am using Heart of Oak in my movie that I am writing woring title Bell Bottom Blues am ex canadian navy wife, the canadian navy bank and contingent will be marching down the street to Heart of Oak

  • Oh i miss this march too! It just makes me happy when ever I hear it and brings a tear to my eye.

  • good on ya lads good on ya

  • Very well played by the Royal Marine Band.

Very well drilled by the Royal Navy reservists.

And in general a great piece of music.

  • Every foot in step .....OUTSTANDING!

    WELL DONE!

  • Hate to burst your bubble but they weren't all in step. As they start, the Drum Major is out of step as is the Guard Officer and the officer of the colour party. Dressing in some of the divisions could have been tweaked just a little.

I was in the Navy for 12 years so I know of what I speak.

Over all the march past was wonderful. The music was brilliant and spot on. I haven't heard HEART OF OAK in many years!

  • Unfortuantely, the videoing of the event was not fantastic - back of a fag packet springs to mind. There are several instances where the sound recording does not match the sequence of events.

The Regimental Sgt Mjr for Horseguards told our Chief of Parade Blood Reid that it was the best RN Guard and Parade he'd seen on Horseguards.

  • except for the officers lol!

  • smokeloke8895, it would probably look better with the old No.4's but as modern weapons go, the L85s are quite a tidy weapon for drill and practical for use by and armed force, too.

  • Yeah I know, I'll hopefully be mucking about with L85s soon enough.

  • Still the best country for marching. We owe our boys and girls everything.

  • Wow ! Nice Royal Navy from Japan

  • the timing of the feet is so perfect :)

  • I'm no Sea Cadet, I'm Air, but this is still a beautiful song.

  • Thank you, just as I want to remember the Andrew

  • I love this march - it has great meaning for me as it was played by a band at my father's funeral as his coffin was carried out of the church. He was a RAN musician then bandmaster, so he would have marched off the parade ground many, many times to this tune.

  • the tune is Heart of Oak - it's as British as it gets. bless you father for his service. Bob M Houston TX USA

  • thank you brother should be the national anthem

  • well this and "land of hope and glory" :) i belive thats your universitys geaduation song too

    SGT (ATC) Goodall, England

  • ah, there is no finer sight then that traditional uniform marching to Heart of Oak.

  • Very true, although it'd be even finer with Enfield instead of L85A2s

  • @Someloke8895 I'm in Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, we use Lee Enfield MK IV No.2's for our rifle drill

  • @VersionXpand im in the ccf, were stuck with l98A2's

  • @Someloke8895 lee enfields are a lot smarter

  • i am going to the when i am 18 i am 12 i amin army cadet

  • I waited years for the Russians to invade but they didn't. So I left and THEN the world came apart, wish I was still in... :(

    LRO(T) 'sweepers.

  • You must have been in the Navy between 1993 and 2000 then lol. The calmest 7 years in a long time ;)

  • I love it.

    God save the queen.

cant wait to join the navy just waiting on a starting date now :0

  • i was sub lt commander ryan there =]

  • Can you believe I spent 27 years marching to this beautiful music? Up Spirits! Splice the Main Brace! RCN for ever.

  • Thank you for your service. U.S.C.G. Ret.

  • I love this march. I always feel a tear in my eye for my friend who died last year when I hear it.

  • Please do post more clips.

It is stirring and honors the men and women who go into harm's way (and give up large periods of their lives and careers) for others.

    Thank you.
