What a great performance, both Zimmerman and Bernstein! Totally different atmosphere from the onces by other performers. Thank you for the wonderful piece you uploaded.
To be honest, I don't think this Dolby thing is doing the right job here. Actually, not at all. When the orchestra plays forte it's because it is supposed to sound forte. This is so sadly evident e.g. at the end of the first movement where the piano builds the tension only to be followed by an orchestral part which is barely audible. The whole psychological effect is lost on the listener. The performance is superb, though.
Absolutely First Class - a joy to listen to and a concerto that brings back so many romantic & wonderful memories from so very long ago - from the time when the air was clean - and sex was dirty.
Até então, somente a interpretação Michelangeli atingia o patamar de excelência exigido por essa música... enfim, uma interpretação tão boa quanto!!! Pena a qualidade do audio não ser tão boa
I must say the only thing that spoils this performance for me is Bernstein. He´s such a damn clown, and the camera is forever switching to him which is annoying in the extreme.
@stickitupyapipe It shows Bernstein (and the orchestra) when Zimerman is not playing.
Perfectly sensible! He knows the music intimately as both performer and conductor and lives it! His faces and gestures are not put on but part of his total involvement in the music which results in a very fine performance. He is far from a clown, but one of the greatest musicians (and conductor/composer) of the 20th century!
It was none other than the great Sviatoslav Richter who said,"That's why I now play in the dark, to empty my head of all non-essential thoughts and allow the listener to concentrate on the music rather than on the performer".
Stickitupyapipe is right. It´s not about the performers, but the music. Bernstein was a clown, a performing seal.
He was jewish afterall, so he clearly knew no better. Jews know nothing of European culture. They simply mimic it, that´s all.
No, the name Zimerman is not necessarily jewish. It is a Polish (he´s Polish BTW) variation of Zimmermann, a German name meaning Room (Zimmer) man. That a few jews adopted the name hardly makes it jewish. He is so very not jewish, and trust me, I can spot one a mile off.
Anyhow, If he had a jew in the family, they would have claimed him in Wiki, which they don´t. Proof enough I think.
Perhaps you are aquainted with the violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann? He´s German you know LOL.
BTW MrF, my observation regarding the jews inability to understand European (white) culture, is not "racial diatribe", simply a fact. In the same way a non jew will never get to grasps with jewish culture, the opposite is also true. We are products of our background and our cultures are a reflection of that background.
Perhaps Jews (and others) recognise the cultural superiority of European art forms, and is the reason they attempt to mimick us where and whenever possible.
@sakkiemekok Almost all the great violinists were or are jewish. What exactly were Mendelssohn, Mahler, Gershwin, Irving Berlin, etc., mimicking? Johann Strauss's grandfather was jewish. Whatever he was mimicking he certainly did it very successfully! Perhaps he is excused as he was only a quarter jewish! Mendelssohn was responsible for the revival of Bach, so can't be accused of not understanding European (white?!) culture.
@MrFpam OMG, you are such an idiot. Only a jew could make a stupid uninformed statement like yours. Classical music is European music, not jewish, you half wit. Most of the great composers were nationalistic anti semites like me.
Sorry, I don´t have time to waste on people like you. Now, fuck off.
@sakkiemekok Exactly the sort of reply I expected from you! When all reasoned arguments fail, use personal abuse! Your comments are too stupid to warrant detailed rebuttal.
Calling you an idiot and a half wit isn´t abuse because it´s true. It can only be considered abuse if it´s inaccurate.
BTW half wit, there is no such thing as a half, quarter, or an eighth jew. A half cast jew becomes a full jew only if his or her mother is jewish. Evidently, a goyim woman isn´t to be trusted and could easily have been screwing around, so any off spring where the father is a jew, reverts to being a goy.
Boy, talk about being racist. Jews are in a class of their own.
Il Terzo concerto di Beethoven è op. 37 e non op. 15; è in do minore e non in do maggiore; nella edizione presentata qui Zimerman è solo il solista, il direttore è Leonard Bernstein. Sono errori triviali e da evitare.
I´ve just found this complete video of the Zimmerman´s rendition of this hauntingly beautiful concerto. Even though it was posted in July, it´s only had 4,330 hits, which I feel is largely the result of it being hidden away in the back pages of the search engine. It´s by far the best interpretation of Beethoven´s 3rd available on youtube, yet it doesn´t have prominence. Why?
Seein' Beirnstein to conduct is extremly fun!

Why does it say Soloist & Conductor Krystian Zimerman when the conductor is clearly Leonard Bernstein?

@sakkiemekok This is hardly the place for racist diatribes. Zimerman (according to his surname) is of jewish heritage.
