Hi Sophie, I had a question, I was just fixing to order the camu vit c when I ran across an article that said topical vit c HAS to be oil soluble for it to actually go into the skin.
Do you know about this & if so, is this camu vit c oil soluble vit c? TY
@vanillagrl1 what brand of vitamin c crystals do you use? or do you use camu camu powder? i've stirred and stirred and tried multiple batches. it seems to be disolved properly when i test it on my fingers, but it's still very gritty when i use it on my face.
@vanillagrl1 Thanks very much! I will get some and try that. What I have used so far is Now brand's vitamin C crystals ascorbic acid 100% pure powder/pharmaceutical grade to no avail. I guess I can always use it as a dietary supplement! I was tempted to try diluting in hot water but was afraid that this would alter it. I'm excited to try out your suggestion.
Use rosehip fruits after temperature is under 0 grade celsius.Use a blender and water.Next a filter and you will have a natural raw paste with a lot of vit C natural.
I USED THIS ON MY FACE JUST MIXING THE CAMU POWDER AND GLYCERINE ...I USED IT FOR 1 YEAR AND NOW THEY ARE CALLING MY HUSBAND MY DADDY! I LOOK 20 YEARS YOUNGER!
just take a vitamin C supplement...Better to have it flowing through your veins and Cells in your body..rather than having it sit on top of your dead skin cells...just saying.
Sophie, thank you so much for sharing your tips. You exude an elegant loveliness that is a pleasure to watch.
In regards to this serum, does it go on before or after moisturizing? Or does it altogether replace the need for moisturizer? Also, how important do you consider toner?
Hi, this is very interesting but how do you know that the skin absorbs and uses the vit C effectively in this form. What would be the difference in cutting open a lemon or kiwi and rubbing that over the skin?
@nabimusik I'm having the same difficulty. It feels almost like an exfoliating wash no matter how I mix it. I pat it on before bed, since it gives me a fake tan look.
@orginunknown camu powder is brown, since that was in the mix that's what gave it the brown tint. I use straight camu for this, and its the colour of light brown sugar in powder form
Thnk u! Try the new product they have on TV called "LEG GLO", im addicted! Makes your legs look like a celebrity! Its ammazzing. They have a website too..
I sent an email through your website months ago and still haven`t received an answer so I thought I would post here as well.
After purchasing your I attempted to make the vitamin c serum using camu camu powder and even after mixing and pressing with the spoon for really long time, the tiny grains wouldn`t desolve and left a grainy brown-colored mess on my face. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do to fix my serum?
YOU ARE GREAT! I'M SO HAPPY I FOUND YOU...GREAT RECIPES..I HAVE BEEN DOING MY OWN RECIPES FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, SO I APPRECIATE SOME ONE THAT ALSO HAS THE KNOWLEDGE...YOU LOOK GREAT!! BY THE WAY..DO YOU MIND IF I ASK YOU YOUR AGE?
so many good things you say are correct, however L ascorbic acid is synthetic, finding natural vitamin C is very difficult however it is available you just need to research it. The synthetic vitamin C is made from sugar and is only 2/3 of the active component of natural vit. C, so by natural vit. C and remember it needs to be in a powder/capsule form and never ever in a hard pill. this goes for all vitamins really. thanks for the excellent information.
Hey Sophie! I discovered something. I am really lazy and while I love the serum, I didn't make it as often as I needed it. So now I keep the glycerin and water in a dropper bottle, and the Camu powder in jar with a baby scoop. Then I just mix it in my fingers before I apply it. You can feel it disolve in your hands. Thought I'd share. :)
@faffibo you need to use the crystals or the powder, the tablets and capsules contain fillers which is what you see because the fillers are insoluble in water. you cannot use the tablets or capsules, they wont work the same.
@orginunknown I'm not wasting any more time on something so dumb dude so say what you want after this but you are a seriously sad person to be so rude to total strangers. I'm embarrassed for you.
this serum is a high Percentage and will likely be WAY to intense for most skin, when the skin feels like its burning, tingly ands get red and itchy, it is normal, but if it becomes painful or too "hot" the concentration may be too high, try adding more water, or starting with 1/2 tsp instead.
Thanks so much for your recipes! I want to make this one for my mom, but can I substitute vegetable glycerine with almond oil? or other oils? Thank you!
It's a tough call because beeswax is one of the few waxes that provides that thick and creamy consistency. You could try adding more of the rose infusion and more emulsifying wax. It will be a much lighter cream - you just need to play with it to get the consistency right.
EXCELLENT videos. I had a question for your Almond Face Cream but comments are not allowed for that video. If I may ask here, can I use another type of wax other than beeswax? I'm slowly adapting a more vegan way of living to my lifestyle. I know soy wax is for candles but is there a version of soy made for skin products? :)
this video was just what I was looking for, I had some vit C powder and didn't enjoy consuming by mouth, so now I know how to make the serum - thanks a lot for your video, you are a wonderful presenter, amazing waist too :)
Yes, you can get the Vitamin C powder or crystals from Duane Reed or CVS Pharmacy - also Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. It's sometimes called L-ascorbic acid and is the same thing.
hai can any one tell me where can i find ascorbic acid powder tried finding it in all places walmart, walgreens ,kroger, target.can u plz tell me where can i find it &the brand name plzzzzzzzzzzzz.everywhere im finding it in capsule or tablet form.
@81drifty Yes it's the same. The C crystals take a while to dissolve. So make sure you dissolve them in water first for a minute or two before adding glycerin. After adding the water, shake the bottle and the crystals will dissolve completely after a couple of hours.
The stickiness is from the glycerin, so you can reduce that until you like the consistency. You will want to make sure you replace whatever glycerin you leave out with more water so your Vit C isn't too strong. HTH:)
@prettysun are you using vitamin C crystals only or the camu too? The camu will make it brownish - so if you don't like that, just use the C crystals.
@gorgeouslygreen Oh, I see! I can't find vitamin c in powdered form here in Holland, I asked it at the pharmacy but they don't have it. And you're right, if you're buying a commercial vitamin c serum, it does cost like an arm and a leg :))
@prettysun vitamin c oxidizes faster in the presence of metal - the fact that she stirred it with a metal spoon probably catalyzed this reaction. to avoid this, use a glass rod. also, you should use it immediately & probably not store it for more than three days (in the fridge).
