  • Rajhesh Vaidhya's veena playing is excellent. My heart is longing to have his DVds. How can I get them? Can I get relevant details/address,etc. from youtube?

    r krishna murthy

  • Lovely performance !!

  • Rajesh Vaidya- Endaro- It was indeed a very entertaining number you have uploaded. When one attempts to introduce or fuse his ideas, it is essential that the sprit of the original is not tampered too much. I find his tendencey to create fusions out of oothukadu, thiyagaraja etc. has commercial touch rather than in complementing the original master pieces.

  • I would suggest, let Rajesh Vaiya compose a song like endaro mahanubavulu and sing it with all pomp, the way he wants. when he plays a thyagaraja piece one expects some humility the way it was composed by thyagaraja

  • @gblsbm sir please elaborate where you would have not liked digression from the original...thanks

  • My guru is ultimate.............he's unique

  • Rajesh Vaidya is a genius.... I had the opportunity to see him perform live in Kannur...It was awesome....

  • Master piece ... just love it ...

  • Nice, really good. I like his improvisations and his ideas that make this Masterpiece composition of Thyagaraja Swami even more wonderful to listen......Hindus are also taught to respect every performer's bhaani and not mock it probably because you feel inferior, superior or just plain high -nosed.

  • to all those who think tat rajesh sir can play oly fast nos, kindly listen to his evergreen melodies..... u ll accept tat he s the best... i ve been learning veena fr past 4 yrs. though i m nt a professional veena player, i knw to appreciate good music...

  • I am over 60 and I truly enjoy his veenai playing. He has speed , technique and gamakam. Veenai sings in his hands. Listen to his playing 'Chandra sekhara' in sindhu bhairavi, it is fantastic. It is still sad that people don't seem to go to other good veenai players' concerts and encourage them. Those who complain about keeping the tradition are missing in these concerts.

  • music has no barriers of cast, creed, religion. Marvelous presentation. Music lovers will feel happy.

  • very nice sequencing and especially, the second part is good!

  • This music is awesome. Does anybody know the type of drum the guy on the right is playing? Is it the same as the guy on the left?

  • good, keep posting latest hits of karnatic music of rajesh prabhu

  • I am so deeply touched by this music from the great musician Rajhesh Vaidhya.... especially the piece of "Entahro"! I almost listened to this music at least 3 to 6 times a day for the last one week when I found it in YT! I pary he great Almighty to give Rajesh and his music crew the good health and happiness and bring more and more like this to people like us. By the way, where I can buy the CD or DVD of "The Best of Rajesh Vaidhya"? Thank you for posting it!

  • Try some good music before you morons comment here please!!!

  • @krishnathirumalai What do you know about good music that u are bragging here?

  • @sangitapradarshak: Man just zip it. Bloody how much of veena music have you heard before? You sound like a spoilt brat. If you dont know about things dont bloody talk about em'. Its because of morons like you that we are having a cultural breakdown here. The veena is a voice emulator. Once used as an accompaniment to vedic chants these days its used to play the compositions of the Trinity and other popular composers.

  • Playing fast is no big deal fellas. One must agree that a lot of hard work goes into that but a vainika is never rated in terms of speed of fingerwork alone. Fretwork, ability to produce long sustained swaras and most Importantly the quality and precision of gamaks , meends are the major factors.. Do a wiki search on what these terms mean and maybe you ll understand. And all this must be done naturally without electronic amplifiers and such acoustic enhancements.

  • @krishnathirumalai you bloody narrow-minded, patronising, self-centered idio!! Who are you to judge music and rank it? If you don't like it, then shut your fucking trap, remove your dirty hands from the bloody keyboard and go wank off!!!!! god, I don't know where creatures like you landed from... were you picked up from some wasteland or something?? hmm... how would you be knowing it?

  • Its the first time they see a guy playing this instrument and they support him madly... Its great for the musician but seriously detrimental to music. I dont know ehy he is even playing these days.. The poor chap has lost it completely. Check on some videos played by the greats.

  • The only reason this guy thrives is because of his foolish supporters... Look below....! People of this generation dont know what Indian music is all about as they are clueless as to what music was created for and what it does to a human... Music is no means of entertainment its penance.. Hundreds of vainikas from the past have played some real music unlike this cheap guy.

  • It would be great if we could know the names of the entire crew!!

    Thanks!

  • Rajhesh Vaidhya, wonderful music.... just another masterpiece. You are becoming one of my favorite musicians. People like you enrich the world we live in. What excellent coordination between the veena, drums, and voice. Great job!

  • Being compared to Ravana when playing Veenai is not bad at all. Ravana's playing pleased Lord Siva so much that he pardoned him for his arrogance and granted boons. I am one of the old people who appreciates this style too. Such mastery and ease. I wish I could play like hime.

  • Awesome .... I run short of words appreciating you for your effort in uploading such a legend's work... thanks a million again!!!

  • Mr vaidhya you are the best

  • Tight!

  • Sai Ram. I am not a musician but as an average listener, am enthralled by the beautiful exposition. I have heard the vocal renditions and also a few other renditions on other instruments too, thanks to youtube. I would say this is one of the best! Brahmanandam indeed! Thanks to the artists and to the friend who posted the video.

  • wow !!!!

  • rajesh vaidhya is a rock-star :) but the quality of the audio here isn't the best.

  • great !!! simply superb :)

  • Thanks for this great treat. It is indeed a gift of the gods that we have this young and brilliant artiste, enthralling all of us with such divine veena concerts. May you blossom and contnue this tradition for years to come>> Our prayers for your well being and welfare!!

  • WOW!!!!Rajeshji, i have become your fan.

  • Just liked the energy level . Keeps you also energized.

  • catchy tune

  • Dude. It is a not a tune. Dont venture a comment if you dont know what you are commenting about

  • Awesome!!! Veena is a really hard instrument to play and that too in this fast pace......unbelievable....Rajesh Vaidhya is undoubtedly a gifted musician who has all the blessings of goddess Saraswathi.

  • this is coming at me from

    every angle of sound

  • tumburu narada pavanasootula group music.kaliyuga vaikuntham. spectacular.!

  • you guys are on to something here

  • Hello All\I would say Anamda has no descrimination. Mean minded artists who are incapable of playing like this take guard under Sampradaya, Prampara, Region, caste etc. Pls go ahead !. Percentage of mean minded people is becoming less day by day because of globalisation. People are the better judges Kudos to you Mr.Rajesh Vaidya. Pls go on contributing to music world. Sincere music loveres are here

  • awesomeness is coming through my ears!

  • Mr Vaidhya you and the band ROCK i love it if not you then who?

  • Great rendition...amazing skill!!

  • totally, he makes playing the veeen soo fast look so easy!...unbelievable!...check out raguvamsasutham...unbelievably fast, yet beautiful!

  • I loved it friends..!! Enjoy..

  • How can one judge a person just by this one video action? Are all persons who come off pious, really pious at heart? With this video we can only appreciate his talent. If few modern looking kids can be inspired by his playing and if they take up this art form then it is a gain.

Also how should one judge the person who is arguing for bhakti bhava so vigorusly, whose only favourite video in his channel is about "Pornstar". So let us not judge a person so harsh, especially from this 1 video.

  • LOL yeah! People are hypocrites.

  • Was Ravana really that bad? Are dravidians demons? Was Rama really the personification of perfection? Did Ravana really kidnapp sita? Or did she elope with him? Was she immolated by Rama?

Blind devotion accomplishes great feats but blind devotion to peace and truth can accomplish more.

  • beautiful, and please, just enjoy the music

  • Very creative with the guitar, drums & the keyboard.People need to appreciate that it is very difficult to play veena at this speed and with gamakams.Facial expressions are bound to happen.WEll DONE to all of you. Keep up your good work

  • Rajeesh Riles! What music and what a great band. Obviously inspired when so much joy is apparent. auvs is so jealous that he can't play like that the he just criticizes him for months, look at the comments. Post some of your own music auvs and show us all how it's done. What you view as nasty is in your own mind. Good luck meditating it away. Peace R

  • he adding his personal touch in that part.. a little cretivity does not.. should not hurt.

  • Excellent,,,,,,,,,no words to say

  • refreshing performance and great musicianship

  • AUVS wots your problem with BHAKTI BHAVA and PLAYING- a persons expressions can be un-predictable & by the way- once you get lost in the GAMAKA's of the RAAGA, you travel with the BRAHMAN and then perhaps only the god hears your lyrics because your heart by then would have gone for meditation,

  • Instead of posting out-of-place, pseudo-intellectual comments criticizing whether there is or isnt bhakti/bhava, which is entirely an intimate experience thus not for anyone to spew gibberish about, why dont you try to play the veena as skillfully as this dude does? With tilak, without, with mannerism, or lacking them, this guy is great! Enjoy the music and stop the drama.

  • He can play and do whatever he wants. But Carnatic music is closely associated with Bhakthi movement and the lyrics that he plays are Thiagaraja kritis, which were composed by Saint Thiagaraja with great devotion to Lord Rama. While playing such lyrics we need to maintain certain decorum and dignity. Can you imagine a cabaret in a temple? He can play his own songs and do whatever he wants. He is skilled, no doubt. It is like education without character.

  • Sir,

You are of course entitled to your own opinion. But,What I have learnt from my life is that one cannot create such beauty with music without bakthi.Rajesh Vaidhya's is not seen in the tradational way in his expressions while playing, but the music of his veena definitely personifies it.He has played Thayagayya's kirthana with so much Joy, I am sure Rama will enjoy it when he is listening from Vaikuntam.

  • There is no need for piety and decorum. Thyagaraja himself must have known when Rama slew Ravanna, the victors celebrated without decorum. When Rama returned to Ayodhya, the citizens celebrated racously because of their love and devotion to him. They expressed it their way, as Thyagaraja would have well known. And this isn't a 'cabaret'; it is simply a veena player with various accompniers who simply move about a bit to feel the music

  • strange...no need for decorum? Funny too..Techinical skills have nothing to do with persons character. Watch him at 5:50 in this clip.

  • Music involves creativity. He has been very creative in this song. The cliping at 5:50 is also creative. If people hadn't been creative enough, we would not have had western instruments like guitar, violin, keyboard and saxaphone etc. into carnatic music. And also for you information, playing veena at 4th speed is very tough. Why don't you try playing 4th speed on the veena or any instrument. Post it on YouTube and we will see how you look!

  • Nobody questioned his skills. But his mannerisms are obnoxious. This fellow is not the first veena player. There are many great players like Eemani Sankara Sastry, Balachander, Gayathri, Jayanthi Kumaresh, and many. They all played with great respect to the instrument and the meaning of lyric. When MSS Amma sings how the mood of everyone transforms? Because she sings with dignity and with great respect. I only object to his nasty mannerisms in playing a devotional lyric.

  • Auvs, it seems all you can do is derail Mr Vaidhya while the rest of the world defends him.

It is clear that you are unwilling to realize that the greats are no longer around with the strength they used to have, and let me make the following clear:

ANY DEVOTION IS PURE DEVOTION: Hinduism prides itself on having gods such as Shiva who are appeased by an offering of even mere water and Vishnu, who will protect a child from fear just as much a king from an enemy.

    Rajesh's devotion is perfect.

  • Do you know the meaning of the lyric that he is palying?...It translates that...I bow to the innumerable pious people and I salute them...Thats the meaning of the lyric and look at the way he expresses himself.

  • They better play their own songs, than those of Thiagaraja. The Bhava of the lyric is totally lost and it has been reduced to exhibition of skills in an obnoxious manner.

Music is divine. It should be played with great respect. Look at the kind of expressions he displays. Let him once think, how Saint Thiagaraja might have thought while penning such lyrics.

  • Simply great!

  • Yes, you are right. I don't know why they apply vermilian / chandana on their forehead when they have no bhakti inside. Just a "show". You don't about the spectators, they may be having drinks or dancing ! who knows?

  • When you feel proud of your religion, I don't see any problem in being fast in expressing. You seem to have great problem only with the tempo of the performance. Imagine yourself saying "I bow to you" both slow and fast. Both have the same meaning in it. Of course, the faster expression includes strength in its meaning.

  • @ hvbachar

When you feel proud of your religion, I don't see any problem in being fast in expressing. You seem to be worried only with the tempo of the performance. Imagine yourself saying "I bow to you" both slow and fast. Both have the same meaning in it. Of course, the faster expression includes strength in its meaning.

  • booo!!! *yawn* if you feel he isn't doing justice to the "bhava of the lyrics" better stop watching his performance... how stupidly conservative!

he is the best veena artist i've ever seen.

  • No doubt he is highly skilled. Ravana is also a great player of Veena. But he is not remembered for that. Skills are respected on the basis of his/her character.

  • do you make a judgment of his character based on this??? How very silly!!!

  • This person is not able to show any respect for the lyric which is sung by many with great devotion. Look his expressions at 5:50.

  • I think you are not listning to the Music. How could you get one's feeling by having looking at their face. He, as far as i have seen, enjoys playing the Music and i could not sense any other intention in his feeling.

    Hope we are discussing.

  • See, the problem is that you (nor any of us) can understand what it is to play like him...thus making it impossible understand what he's thinking. For all you may know, this probably is his sadhana...so consider such things before you actually post a comment such as this

  • I guess he is just enjoying the music there..... and a little competition between the instrumentalists.. thats it..

  • I absolutely appalled that you would compare Rajesh Vaidya to Ravana! You cannot judge someone by one facial expression. There is a word for this...prejudice. Please do not post anymore negative comments about Sri Rajesh Vaidya, as nobody really agrees with them.

  • sir, what is this rubbish? The Bhava of the lyric is divine whether it comes from the hands of Thyagaraja himself or a dancing urchin in the middle of a compost heap. Playing a music considered dead in today's world is respect great enough. He shows his devotion through passion, while you sit here and trash talk him.

  • If my comments are trash talk, what is his expression at 5:50 in that clip called?

  • Never judge anyone's music by their facial expression. His music is pleasing to the ears, that is all it matters.

  • He is pouring one hundred and fifty percent into this lyric with his own form of Bhava; I'm sure Thyagaraja would have appreciated such a gesture. Bhava can be expressed anyway, through sitting still as stone or moving about, as long as the devotion is pure

  • well said Fluffysalt.Auvs will have to take this with a bit of(fluffy)salt... !!!!

  • its nice but i would prefer it without the drum kit and guitar

  • simply great!

  • what a fantastic performance!

  • awesome rendition...simply great 2 watch and listen 2!

  • Nice
